CNN —Beyoncé proved that she and her Destiny’s Child sisters are true survivors with a warm appreciation post shared to her Instagram on Saturday morning. The carousel of content showed Beyoncé and her mother Tina Knowles in attendance at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre for the show, along with Kelly Rowland, who rounded out the Destiny’s Child trio in its final formulation. Videos and photos showed the three divas smiling in the theater, with Williams in costume. In the new musical, Williams plays Viola Van Horn, based on the mysterious character immortalized in the movie by Isabella Rossellini, who gives the women the potion. “Death Becomes Her” the musical has been earning rave reviews and also stars Tony-nominated Broadway performers Megan Hilty and Jennifer Simard.

CNN —President Vladimir Putin said Friday that Russia will continue to test and start mass-producing the hypersonic ballistic missile that it fired at Ukraine Thursday. The firing of the missile came after the White House authorized Ukraine to fire its long-range missiles into Russia. In a televised meeting with the leadership of Russia’s defense ministry, Putin claimed the missile could not be intercepted by air defenses and said Russia will begin serial production of the new weapon. Putin added Russia was developing “several similar systems” for further testing. Putin’s comments come a day after Russia fired the “Oreshnik” missile – which contains multiple warheads – at the Ukrainian city of Dnipro.

The Lebanese militant group Hezbollah has been using an advanced missile against Israel that was reverse-engineered from an Israeli weapon it captured in a past war, according to Israeli defense officials. Hezbollah fighters are believed to have seized the original Israeli Spike anti-tank missiles during the 2006 Israeli-Hezbollah war in Lebanon and shipped them to their main state backer, Iran, for cloning, Israeli and Western defense officials and weapons experts say. Eighteen years later, Hezbollah is firing the rebranded Almas missiles at Israeli military bases, communication systems and air-defense launchers with enough precision and power to pose a significant challenge for Israeli military forces. The missiles have a range of up to 10 miles and carry advanced guidance seekers to track and lock onto targets. That Iran and its proxy forces have cloned weapons systems to use against the very adversaries who designed them is not new.

President-elect Donald J. Trump repeatedly promised voters that he would cut energy and electricity prices in half within 18 months of taking office. The emerging plan is a repackaging of Mr. Trump’s energy policy. Advisers think Mr. Trump can lower prices by boosting oil and gas production, which is already at record levels in the United States. But energy industry experts noted that a president has limited tools to influence how much Americans pay at the pump, and even less leverage when it comes to electricity prices. More than a dozen experts said Mr. Trump’s strategy might succeed in lowering prices, but not enough to meet his goal.

Wealthy countries' $300 billion offer seeks to end COP29 stalemate
  + stars: | 2024-11-23 | by ( ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +1 min
People walk past the logotype at the venue for the 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku on November 11, 2024. The European Union, U.S. and other wealthy countries at the COP29 summit have agreed to raise their offer to $300 billion per year by 2035 to help developing nations deal with climate change, sources told Reuters on Saturday, after a previous proposal was dismissed as insultingly low. The shift in position came after a $250 billion proposal for a deal, drafted by Azerbaijan's COP29 presidency on Friday, was panned by developing countries as insufficient. It was not clear if the wealthy countries' revised position had been formally communicated to developing countries at COP29, and whether it would be enough to win their support. The U.S. delegation at COP29 and the UK energy ministry did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Opinion | Three Theories of the Trump Cabinet
  + stars: | 2024-11-23 | by ( Ross Douthat | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
It did seem, at least, that the appointments to Trump’s cabinet might help us make plausible statements about the trajectory of his administration. That Trump has picked more loyalists than last time is true, inevitable and not especially useful in terms of figuring out how exactly (apart from never appointing a special prosecutor to investigate the boss!) That some of his nominees are eccentric or unfit-seeming and others are more conventional is likewise to be expected. Neither observation gives us a general theory of Trump 2.0. Instead, let’s consider three subtheories of how this cabinet might actually work.

If you're like me, you probably spend your weekends tackling the tasks you didn't have time for during the workweek. According to Holmes, you should actually treat your weekends like a vacation. Treating your weekend like a vacation helps break you out of the "routine of doing, and it allows you to just be." When measuring their happiness afterwards, she found that those with a vacation mindset showed more satisfaction and positivity when they returned to work. However, Holmes warns that there is one caveat to the vacation mindset.

Mexico gained tens of thousands of jobs when U.S. and foreign automakers moved their plants to Mexico under the free trade pact to take advantage of much lower wages. But the idea that Chinese parts — or even whole cars — could be piggybacking on that arrangement to further hollow out the U.S. auto industry has enraged some people north of the border. Mexico hopes the rules of the agreement would prevent the U.S. or Canada from simply walking away when the trade pact comes up for review in 2026. Mexican officials say they have fewer imports of Chinese parts and products than the United States does. In the end, Mexico may be forced to crack down on Chinese imports, but it won't be easy.
