AR effects are on the rise on Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram, appearing across billions of videos. Artists, labels, and music marketers are finding new ways to promote tracks via these AR filters. "If you do come up with a cool AR filter, it's easier for the regular user to create a TikTok with than to create a dance." "Artists will hire AR creators to make effects for specific pieces of music," Chris Barbour, Meta's AR partnerships director, told Insider. As with any trend on social media, originality is important for helping an AR effect spread, Yoder said.

The series ‘1923’ with Harrison Ford had its premiere on Paramount+ near the end of the recent quarter. Warren Buffett may or may not be a “Yellowstone” fan, but he sure seems to like a good drama. Paramount Global was one of the few stocks Mr. Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway bought more of during the fourth quarter, according to a filing earlier this week. And that was during a period when the famed long-term investor made some uncharacteristic quick exits. Berkshire sold off 86% of its position in Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing just one quarter after first buying into the chip-making titan.
Paramount Global said it would raise the price of its Paramount+ streaming service later this year, as mounting losses from its streaming business ate into the entertainment company’s quarterly profits. Paramount+ gained 9.9 million subscribers in the fourth quarter, boosting its customer base to nearly 56 million, the company said Thursday. Paramount credited the National Football League, the expansion of franchises like “Top Gun: Maverick” and “1923,” a spinoff of “Yellowstone,” and new shows like “Tulsa King” for driving subscriber growth.

Paramount+ (formerly CBS All Access) is beefing up by bringing sister network Showtime into the fold. "The shows with rich, deep libraries are the ones that get a lot of consumption," said Paramount+ streaming chief Tanya Giles. But Paramount+ (formerly CBS All Access) is beefing up by bringing sister network Showtime into the fold — rebranding both the Showtime cable network and the streamer as Paramount+ With Showtime. Paramount+ is also building upon its library with originals: The streamer recently revived "Criminal Minds," which aired on CBS for 15 seasons. In anticipation of "Criminal Minds: Evolution," viewership of the original CBS "Criminal Minds" jumped 46%, a Paramount+ spokeperson shared with Insider.
Spinoffs and expansions for ‘Billions’ and ‘Dexter’ are part of Showtime’s plans for an overhaul. Showtime is producing a wave of spinoffs and expansions for “Billions” and “Dexter,” two of its sturdiest hits, the network says. The premium cable brand is reshaping its TV slate with the same mold that turned “Yellowstone” into a sprawling franchise for parent company Paramount Global . Showtime says it’s planning up to four series connected to “Billions,” the network’s long-running high-finance drama, starting with a spinoff set in Miami, plus other iterations being developed under the titles “Millions” and “Trillions.”

As part of this integration, the premium cable TV network, known for shows like "Yellowjackets," "Billions," and "Dexter," will be rebranded as Paramount+ with Showtime. Paramount+ starts at $4.99 a month, and Showtime's streaming service is $10.99 a month.

Paramount+'s new "Yellowstone" prequel "1923" is reportedly getting eight more episodes. Paramount+'s new "Yellowstone" prequel, starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, is getting eight more episodes, on top of the originally planned first eight, according to a new Wall Street Journal story published on Saturday. WSJ categorized these additional episodes as "more '1923,'" but the "Yellowstone" expanded universe has sparked confusion before regarding the first prequel, "1883." It also announced a second prequel, which ultimately became "1923." They so far include "Mayor of Kingstown," "Tulsa King," and the "Yellowstone" prequels "1883" and "1923," all for Paramount+.

The Race to Build the ‘Yellowstone’ Universe

FEELY, Mont.—Helen Mirren had her shoes off and her feet propped close to a hissing propane heater. With co-stars Harrison Ford and Timothy Dalton she was huddled in a nook of a hollow building, a film set that looked like a stately stone-and-timber lodge on a snowy hill outside Butte, Mont. The actors were keeping warm while running dialogue for an outdoor scene they had tried in vain to shoot two days earlier, when subzero temperatures made it impossible for them to enunciate their lines. It was early December, winter was bearing down, and a premiere date was looming in two weeks for “1923,” a big-budget TV series saddled with two mandates. The first: to pull audiences deeper into the stories linked to the most-watched series on television, “Yellowstone.” The second: to do so on deadline as Paramount Global , the company behind “Yellowstone,” races to capitalize on the show’s popularity and fix a major gap in its streaming-television inventory.

You don't have to watch "Yellowstone" to see and enjoy its new prequel "1923." But you do need two streaming services to watch both. "1923" is streaming on Paramount+, while past episodes of "Yellowstone" are on Peacock. The new series, "1923," follows a new generation of Duttons, the ranching family portrayed in Taylor Sheridan's smash hit "Yellowstone." The series was good enough and easy enough to watch without having seen "Yellowstone" that I am now watching "1923."
When wolves in Yellowstone National Park get infected with a cat parasite called Toxoplasma gondii, they become more likely to leave their packs and start new ones. The Yellowstone wolf data hints that it's just the side effect of a protozoan inhabiting our brains in a failed attempt to make more protozoa. So why would any of this make an infected wolf want to start its own pack? That was the suggestion of an influential 2006 paper titled "Can the Common Brain Parasite, Toxoplasma gondii, Influence Human Culture?" Just because Toxo might drive an alpha male to start a company, that doesn't mean it'll be a successful company.
It’s a grimmer chapter of an ongoing story, and one that is plagued by an inability to articulate why these white men murdering their way across the landscape are heroes worth rooting for. Cultural critics love prestige series. Few celebrated the end of the toxically misogynist “The Big Bang Theory,” or have seemed eager to discuss the resurgence of seemingly endless police procedurals starring white men. But the series has gained viewership year over year, with subsequent spinoffs debuting on new flagship streaming service, Paramount+. Like so many white male grievances, to question the logic is to side with the enemy.
What is it about “Yellowstone,” the hit drama about a Montana ranch family, that has turned the show into a mirror for American politics? We don’t share land here.”That last quote sparked an exchange in the focus group in which America’s border control issue was just below the surface. They also appreciated the show’s depiction of Native Americans and had their eyes opened to crises on reservations because of the show. With the 2022 midterms behind us, we’re going to continue the Times Opinion focus groups into 2023 and include more discussions about culture and society, along with our usual focus on politics and democracy. Please feel free to email us ideas about topics and groups that you’d like to see us cover in the year ahead.
