On Saturday, he told crowds in Greensboro, N.C., and Richmond, Va., that he believed Mr. Biden was “giving aid and comfort” to America’s foreign enemies. Throughout his campaign, Mr. Trump has ramped up warnings about threats he portrays as damaging to traditional American values. On Thursday, Mr. Trump visited Eagle Pass, Texas, where Gov. Mr. Trump is planning an extreme expansion of his anti-immigration policies if he wins the election in 2025, including what he calls the “largest domestic deportation operation” in U.S. history. Lamy, a German pen manufacturer, made a recent splash when it quietly rereleased Dark Lilac, a much-celebrated color of ink. A lush purple with a golden sheen, Dark Lilac, despite its popularity, had been produced only once before — as a limited edition in 2016. Its reappearance a couple of weeks ago was so unexpected that the fountain pen community, which makes up a small but passionate corner of the office supplies market, was agog. “There is drama in the fountain pen community,” Aidan Bernal, a 23-year-old fountain pen enthusiast, said at the start of a recent TikTok in which he did his best to explain the saga — one that has involved conflicting company statements, amateur sleuthing and an elusive shade of purple. Long overshadowed by its ballpoint, gel and felt-tip rivals, the regal fountain pen, which has an internal reservoir for refillable ink, has enjoyed a modest resurgence in recent years.

Congress sent a short-term funding bill to President Joe Biden's desk Thursday, averting a partial government shutdown this weekend and buying lawmakers more time to fund federal agencies through September. The CR is part of a broader bipartisan spending deal congressional leaders announced Wednesday that includes six of the 12 spending bills that fund federal agencies. The new CR would extend the funding deadline for half of the dozen must-pass spending bills by one week, to March 8. Leaders say that should give Congress enough time to pass all of the spending bills for the fiscal year that ends on Sept. 30. He has indicated that foreign aid will be tackled separately, without committing to allowing a vote on the Ukraine funding.

CNN —Boeing must produce within 90 days a plan to fix serious quality and safety issues, the Federal Aviation Administration said on Wednesday. The agency said FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker and Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun held a day-long meeting on Tuesday where Whitaker made the demand. The FAA said the Boeing plan must address weaknesses in implementing the company’s Safety Management System, known as SMS, as well as integrating the SMS program with another quality program. Anna Moneymaker/Getty Images North America/Getty ImagesThe panel that reported on Boeing’s safety shortcomings on Monday recommended the company address those issues within six months; the FAA’s new directive sets a faster timeline. The resulting plan from Boeing must lead to a “measurable, systemic shift in manufacturing quality control,” the FAA said.

A new stock pick from the 93-year-old Buffett almost always leads some investors to follow suit, quickly moving the share price. Berkshire has been a longtime shareholder in credit rating agency Moody's , and bought a big stake in Citigroup in early 2022. The last financial stock Berkshire bought was Capital One Financial in the first quarter of 2023. If the new stake ever exceeds 5% of whatever stock it is, Berkshire would be required to report its holding with the SEC. Buffett might be asked to reveal the identity of the mystery stock at Berkshire's annual shareholder meeting in early May.

A firefighter was killed after a house in Virginia exploded Friday night, injuring 11 other people and scattering pieces of the home across the neighborhood, officials said. Firefighters arrived at the home in Sterling, Va., a suburb of Washington, about 7:40 p.m., said James Williams, the assistant chief of operations for Loudoun County Fire and Rescue. That was around the same time the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company reported on social media that it had sent fire engines to the house to investigate a gas leak. Soon after, the house exploded with firefighters inside, leaving people trapped and the area in “total devastation,” Mr. Williams said. Aerial footage of the scene from local news media showed smoke and debris covering the area and barely any signs of the demolished house.

A short time later, the house exploded and burst into flames, with multiple mayday calls coming from the firefighters trapped inside. Crews rushed in to try to rescue them from the debris that covered them, but one firefighter was killed and nine others were injured, Loudoun County Fire and Rescue officials said in a news release. Authorities did not say if they believe the propane tank leak caused the explosion. After firefighters found the leak in the underground propane tank, they requested a hazardous materials response team and additional units and safety officers. “This is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing danger to the community,” Loudoun County Fire and Rescue said in a statement.
