This election cycle, investors at the top venture capital firms have plowed tens of millions of dollars into the election, both backing their favored political candidates and just cannily promoting commercial interests. Crude oil futures inched higher on Friday, supported by a surprise drop in U.S. oil inventories and simmering Middle East tensions, but prices were headed for their biggest weekly loss in more than a month on worries of lower demand. Both contracts settled higher on Thursday for the first time in five sessions after data from the Energy Information Administration showed that U.S. crude oil, gasoline and distillate inventories fell last week. "Speculative positioning across the ICE Brent complex strengthened from historically low levels, on heightened geopolitical risk of a potential Israeli strike on Iran's oil infrastructure," Citi analysts said in a note. Citi expects global oil demand to slow to 900,000 bpd in 2025 from 1 million bpd this year on an economic slowdown and as more electric vehicles hit the road. The "potential impact of China's emerging economic stimulus plans on oil demand is uncertain, and more robust support may only result in a limited boost," it added.

CNN —More than 800 years after her birth, Joan of Arc — a patron saint of France — remains an object of not just historical, but cultural fascination. Humble beginningsOne of five children in a peasant family in Domrémy, in north-eastern France, Joan was born in the year 1412. The Amazonian image of Joan of Arc in armor is perhaps the most recurrent one in popular culture, inspiring thousands, if not hundreds and thousands, of similar depictions. A man fell to his death after he was stunned by a Utah state trooper Sunday, the Utah Department of Public Safety said. The Utah Highway Patrol received reports just after 8 p.m. of a man running through traffic on Interstate 15 in Salt Lake City, Utah DPS said in a news release. Despite multiple attempts to get him to stop, the man fled from troopers and jumped over a barrier on an off-ramp. "The West Valley Police Department will lead that investigation." The West Valley Police Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

An Orange County, California, man has been arrested in connection with acts of vandalism in which anti-Asian slurs that were spray-painted over campaign signs for Democratic congressional candidate Dave Min, who’s Korean American. It comes after reports of two separate incidents in which signs were spray-painted with an anti-Korean derogatory term. A video documenting the vandalism, that was posted on the Democratic candidate’s social media, shows the hate speech, written in silver paint, across a row of signs. Police said they first responded to a report of vandalism last Tuesday, when they found Min signs defaced with the offensive language. “The Huntington Beach Police Department takes vandalism seriously, particularly when it involves hate speech,” the police said in a news release last week.
