But the farm equipment maker has been planting the seeds for an increasingly high-tech and autonomous future – one that critically hinges on space. But connectivity is the linchpin of this vision, and space fills a void left by fiber and traditional cellular signals. "We think satellite communications is a really intriguing, interesting technology to pursue to sort of solve that communications gap." Last fall the company put out a request for proposal to the satellite communications industry to partner on space-based connectivity services. "We had this opportunity to bring two industries together — satellite space communications and agriculture — and say, 'What kind of value could we create?'"
Big tech isn't dead, according to portfolio manager Trent Masters, who identified his favorite stocks to play artificial intelligence and more. While there were minimal changes to earnings estimates in aggregate, this was better than feared heading in," said Masters, global portfolio manager at Sydney-based Alphinity. Masters said that one "really exciting area" yet to be explored is the creation of verticals that sit on top of large language models like ChatGBT. Many Arabs, especially Palestinians, commemorate the displacement every year as Nakba Day. McCarthy intervened late Tuesday to reserve the Capitol Visitor Center space where Tlaib – the first Palestinian-American US congresswoman – was going to host a Wednesday event, according to a spokesperson for McCarthy. Tlaib responded in a statement, saying, “Speaker McCarthy wants to rewrite history and erase the existence and truth of the Palestinian people, but he has failed to do so. “We fully plan on moving forward with this event and we will continue to ensure that Palestinian voices are heard. McCarthy will instead lead a bipartisan briefing celebrating the 75th anniversary of the US-Israel relationship instead, his office says.
"It's like a comedy-drama satire," Margolin, a junior at New York University, told Insider of the film, called "Doomers." It's about a former youth climate activist and a former NASA climate scientist who go out for a night of hedonistic destruction to celebrate giving up on fighting the climate crisis. Margolin started to worry that the youth climate movement had inadvertently created a capitalistic monster. So many companies, even big polluters or those with sweatshops in their supply chains, talk about sustainability and climate justice. "Corporations and politicians have exploited the youth climate movement," Margolin said.
UBS says it sees "the sun shining bright from the bottom of the pool" on Pentair . The analyst thinks that the pool business is nearing a trough in demand in the third quarter. "Nearer-term, we see the guided ~20% pool volume decline this year as sufficient to de-risk the business, which should start shifting investor focus to the 2024 demand recovery. PNR should see healthy margin uplift from operating initiatives paired with volume growth post-'23," Karas said. PNR YTD mountain Pentair PLC stock —CNBC's Michael Bloom contributed to this report.
Lenders wasted little time in charging more for loans when interest rates rapidly rose from an almost 15-year slumber around zero last year, but most have dragged their feet on boosting deposit rates paid to millions of their customers. Money market funds are proving popular among savers seeking bigger returns on their cash as high levels of inflation persist. Data from Refinitiv Lipper showed more than 34 billion euros ($37.6 billion) of net flows into European money market funds in March, the best-selling asset type that month. Fidelity International also reported an 8% year-on-year uplift in flows into money market funds on its investment platform between Jan. 1 and April 26. LONDON, April 25 (Reuters Breakingviews) - UBS’s (UBSG.S) old strategy under former CEO Ralph Hamers was safe but not particularly rewarding. True, the wealth business pulled in about $20 billion of new fee-paying assets in the first quarter. The revenue UBS generates in wealth management fell to 78 basis points of average fee-earning assets in the first quarter, from 82 basis points a year ago. The second Ermotti era, by contrast, at least offers the chance of some upside. UBS reckons it can eventually wring $8 billion of annual cost savings from the combination with Credit Suisse.
Despite surging nearly 80% this year, Wolfe Research expects slowing growth concerns to weigh on C3.ai in the months ahead. Analyst Joshua Tilton downgraded the popular artificial intelligence stock benefitting from the push toward generative AI , citing risks to long-term growth expectations. Central to Tilton's downgrade is the fear that C3.ai's transition to a consumption model would require "near-perfect execution and rates of adoption" to attain management's 30% revenue growth goal. To hit 20% consensus 2024 revenue growth forecasts, the analyst also estimates that C3.ai would need to grow revenues unrelated to Baker Hughes by 28.3%, representing the largest year-over-year increase on record. Along with the downgrade, Tilton placed a $14 price target on shares and revised the firm's full-year 2024 growth outlook to 11%, below the 20% consensus expectation.

A pair of Massachusetts lawmakers are the latest to try and make the four-day workweek a reality. Rep. Dylan Fernandes of Falmouth and Rep. Josh Cutler of Duxbury filed legislation this week to create a voluntary program, the "Massachusetts Smart Work Week Pilot," that would create a tax credit for businesses who move their workers to a shorter week for the same pay. Participating businesses would be required to transition at least 15 workers to a 32-hour, four-day weekly schedule without reducing their salaries. Employers would receive a tax credit in exchange for regularly reporting the shortened week's economic and social impact in their organization, such as on employee wellbeing and work-life balance. The legislation will now be directed to a committee and considered in a committee hearing.

That is the global lender's lowest medium-term growth forecast since 1990, and well below the average growth of 3.8% seen in the past two decades. Georgieva said strong and coordinated monetary and fiscal policy actions to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia's invasion of Ukraine had prevented a much worse outcome in recent years, but growth prospects remained weak in both the near- and medium-term given persistently high inflation. "With rising geopolitical tensions and still-high inflation, a robust recovery remains elusive. Learning the tricks of the tradeMac's wake-up call to start investing came early in his undergraduate career. The image also purports to show replies from Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni and Russian President Vladimir Putin. There is a spacing issue with Biden’s handle, which appears to have a space between “Joe” and “Biden” in the screenshot circulating online. March saw six interest rate hikes across eight meetings by central banks overseeing the 10 most heavily traded currencies. This follows six interest rate hikes delivering 250 bps of uplift across six meetings by G10 central banks in February. "By clearly separating financial and price stability goals and tools, major central banks carried on with rate hikes through the tumult." However, the world's top central banks are openly contemplating an early end to their rate hikes, not least because of the recent financial turmoil. This compares with February, when 13 emerging central banks met and only four hiked by a total of 175 bps.

Diverse hiring helps life insurance companies connect with underserved communities. Life insurance companies are focusing on community and product development. Many of the largest insurance companies have historically denied Black applicants, given them lower-value life insurance than white applicants who paid the same amount, and engaged in other discriminatory activity. Research from William G. Gale, a Brookings Institution economics expert and co-author of "Racial Discrimination in Life Insurance," found that while Black families were 3% more likely than their white counterparts to have a life insurance policy, the differences in inheritances (often including life insurance payouts) accounted for 10-20% of the wealth gap. Aside from eliminating blatantly discriminatory underwriting, Guardian Life has opened the door to life insurance for people with HIV.
