CNBC's Jim Cramer on Monday said the increasing popularity of GLP-1 drugs — medications used to treat diabetes and obesity — has created some new investing opportunities. "Because if you really believe tons of people will take these weight loss medications, to the point where it'll have a transformational impact on the economy, well that's going to create lots of winners, too." Cramer said GLP-1 drugs can cause patients to lose muscle as well as fat, so doctors are encouraging them to consume more protein. Cramer said he also sees potential in the apparel space, with consumers likely to need new clothes to accommodate their weight loss. "When the market was ugly, everyone was worried about how much money the food companies would lose from these GLP-1 weight loss drugs," he said.

WASHINGTON, Nov 29 (Reuters) - The U.S. Department of Agriculture said on Tuesday it will extend for up to 90 days a trial program that allows six U.S. pork plants to operate faster processing-line speeds while collecting data on how the speeds affect meatpacking workers. Some activist groups like Food & Water Watch had opposed the program as a risk to food safety. A judge in 2021 invalidated that rule after the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) union, which represents many meatpacking workers, sued the USDA over worker safety concerns. Plants in the trial were also assigned to collect data on how line speeds affect workers and share it with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration. For an example of how climate change is increasingly becoming a flashpoint in the culture wars, Germany is a good place to start. Meanwhile, Spain’s far-right Vox party vowed to defend the country against “the new climate religion.”But to understand why climate change and the culture wars have become so enmeshed globally, experts say the United States probably holds the key. It’s effective, it does scare people.”The origins of the climate culture war in the US lie in the early 1990s, when a new push for global climate action collided with big geopolitical change, McCright said. The deal to acquire investment firm Carlyle's (CG.O) 28% holding in the burger chain's China business, which also includes its stores in Hong Kong and Macau, will see McDonald's stake rise to 48%. Let's review how options traders are positioned ahead of the key results due this week. A put seller is willing to get long the stock at the put strike in the event the stock price declines below that level — essentially they are selling insurance to other investors who are betting on a potential decline. So if you hold the stock, maybe wait until after earnings to sell covered calls, and if you don't, wait until after earnings to sell cash covered puts. We saw decent activity in the November $157.50 calls, however earnings were most likely not the catalyst that prompted the bullish activity. That means there's a lot of wiggle room for how big banks can portray them on their balance sheet. To be sure, big banks are better capitalized than SVB. Big banks' share prices noticeably dropped as bond prices sunk.

Traders work on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in New York City, U.S., September 26, 2023. It's the last of the three major rating agencies to maintain a top rating for the U.S. Treasury as Fitch lowered its rating in August and S&P removed its AAA in 2011. On one level, there's some relief the AAA rating was maintained despite the darker outlook. And that would at least keep the Federal Reserve at bay despite its warnings last week that another rate hike was still on the table. Line chart with data from LSEG Eikon show the U.S. consumer price index inflation, core CPI inflation and federal funds target rate from Jan. 2019 to Sep. 2023.

Fed officials don’t expect inflation to reach 2% until 2026, according to their latest economic projections released in September. If there’s one thing that would make the Fed quake in its boots, it would be worsening inflation expectations. The keyword there is “timely.”Sticky inflation could possibly “un-anchor” inflation expectations or elicit a consistent deterioration in Americans’ perception on inflation. “The Fed really just wants people to not expect inflation will run at 4% forever.”So what’s kept inflation expectations in check this long? For individuals and married people filing separately, the new federal standard deduction will increase to $14,600, up from $13,850 this year.

CNN —The Chicago Bears edged past the Carolina Panthers in a low-scoring affair on Thursday, a win which boosts their chances at the top pick in next year’s NFL Draft. The Bears were without starting quarterback Justin Fields for Thursday’s game through injury, with undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent once again starting in his place. In his first game since being traded from the Washington Commanders, Sweat had a team-high eight pressures in the game. Thursday’s game was another tough outing for the Panthers QB, who finished with 21-of-38 passing for 185 yards and no touchdowns. The victory moves to Chicago to 3-7 on the season, two games clear from Carolina’s league-worst record.
