US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has raised the cost of applying for or renewing its Trusted Traveler Programs – a catchall term that covers Global Entry, NEXUS and SENTRI – from $100 to $120, as of October 1. The only exception is for minors: those under the age of 18 whose parents are enrolled in Global Entry and other Trusted Traveler Programs will not have to pay a fee. Global Entry launched in 2008. Signing up for Global Entry requires an application process and in-person interview in addition to the nonrefundable application fee. Travelers with Global Entry can use dedicated fast lanes at US airports.

Power released its annual 2024 North America Airport Satisfaction Study, ranking the mega airports across North America. Mega airports are defined as those with 33 million or more passengers per year. The study was fielded from August 2023 through July 2024 and airports were measured based on a 1,000-point scale of overall customer satisfaction. Managing Director of Travel, Hospitality, Retail and Customer Service, tells CNBC Make It this year's study found that airports are swamped with travelers and that most airports have regained their passenger volumes from before the covid-19 pandemic. "There seems to be no slack in demand and airports are, in general, doing a little bit of a better job of making people satisfied, mostly with food and beverage," he says.

Tom Carpenter“I saw an uptick in people traveling with their pets early in 2024,” said Heather Eisenstadt, founder of Top Dog Pet Travel, a central Florida agency specializing in pet-friendly bookings. While analysts don’t track pet travel outlays specifically, some airlines and hotels appear eager to welcome more furry guests — aware that many visitors will pay a premium for it. Some pet owners say they wouldn’t make use of it anyway. Hosts on both platforms set their own pet fees. But the 41-year-old warehouse supervisor from Allentown, Pennsylvania, sees hotel pet fees of up to $200 as reasonable.

Over the years, travelers have repeatedly been warned to avoid public Wi-Fi in places like airports and coffee shops. Airport Wi-Fi, in particular, is known to be a hacker honeypot, due to what is typically relatively lax security. He allegedly set up a fake Wi-Fi network to steal email or social media credentials. How to avoid becoming a victim of this cybercrimeWhen in public places, experts say it's best to use alternatives to public WiFi networks. “Intercity bus service is critically important for so many people,” said Chicago Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa, who has worked to save the station. “I guess I’d have to take the bus (even if the bus station closes) but I’d much rather have this,” Kay said. Terminals sold to investorsA closure in Chicago would accelerate the crisis in intercity bus service in the United States. Milwaukee and Boston, for example, have municipal intercity bus terminals located next to train stations. Chicago Alderman Ramirez-Rosa said that the ultimate goal should be a public intercity bus terminal.

I traveled by train in four European countries using a Eurail pass in October 2022. I preferred the experience of country hopping by train to flying to each place. I formed this opinion in October 2022, when I spent two weeks backpacking through Europe with a Eurail pass. Eurail passes grant travelers unlimited access to most European trains for a set number of days. Some trains only require a Eurail pass, while others, including overnight trains, incur an additional, discounted price.

Both regular and enhanced seats will be available for selection at booking, starting in 2025 for flights in early 2026, Southwest said. Southwest AirlinesSouthwest has already announced an improved cabin with tablet holders, charging ports, upgraded overhead bins, and better WiFi. The cabin improvements come as Southwest plans to cut some short-haul flying in favor of more lucrative long-haul operations. Southwest left four airports altogether in August: Bellingham International Airport in Washington, Mexico's Cozumel International Airport, Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport, and Syracuse Hancock International Airport in New York. This means Icelandair passengers can connect in the US on Southwest flights, and vice versa.
