Tim Walz right after it was announced Tuesday. They also show that Democrats who might be disappointed about being passed over are prioritizing party unity over personal feelings. That travel is expected to begin Tuesday afternoon, when Shapiro is scheduled to join Harris and Walz at a rally in Philadelphia, the vice president's first public appearance with Walz as her running mate.

In the final hours of her search after a compressed vetting period, Harris narrowed in on two candidates — Pennsylvania Gov. Tim Walz, 60, sources told CNN, although Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly remained in the running as of Monday afternoon. But perception is often as important as reality in a presidential race. A critical choiceThe choice of a running mate is the first, most critical decision a party nominee makes. Still, Harris’ strong start appears to have restored the election to a neck-and-neck race, according to recent surveys.

WASHINGTON — All of a sudden, Kamala Harris is talking about the border — and relishing it. “It needs to be repaired, and we are working on that in a way that we establish a safe and humane and orderly immigration system at the border,” Harris said. As illegal border crossings soared, Harris’ critics blamed the Biden administration — and Harris herself. “For three and a half years, ‘border czar’ Harris has allowed terrorists and criminals to pour across our wide-open border,” he said. Now that the numbers are down, Harris' allies argue that Republicans are making an “active mistake” by trying to link Harris to them.

WASHINGTON — Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to reveal her vice presidential pick Tuesday, ahead of their first rally together in Philadelphia in the evening, according to two sources familiar with the plan. The rollout Tuesday will likely look similar to past major announcements, including digital video and social media components, as well as a fundraising appeal, these sources said. The Harris campaign will also disseminate various text messages to its supporters throughout the day, as has been a common practice in the past around big moments. The highly anticipated decision comes after Harris met in person Sunday with three of the contenders who have been under consideration as her vice presidential pick — Pennsylvania Gov. On Friday, Harris secured a majority of support as part of a virtual roll call from Democratic National Committee delegates needed to win the party’s nomination for president.

Vice President Kamala Harris will set out this week on a swing-state campaign blitz, giving her a far heavier travel schedule than her opponent, former President Donald Trump. Harris’ travel this week will take her to seven states in less than a fourth of the time. Reached for comment, Trump campaign communications director Steven Cheung pointed to the overall difference in the number of Trump and Harris campaign trips. Harris' campaign swing is also consistent with how candidates typically pick up the pace as the election draws closer, said Aleigha Cavalier, a Democratic strategist at the strategy and marketing agency Precision Strategies. But she said Harris' travel pace compared to Trump's and Biden's is "a real advantage."

Progressive groups have trained their criticisms on Mr. Shapiro and Mr. Kelly, who they accuse of being too conservative on key issues. The debate grew heated during a discussion about whether using the phrase “Genocide Josh” to describe Mr. Shapiro, who is an observant Jew, was antisemitic. One of his advisers called the Harris campaign to object to Mr. Shapiro, a development that was first reported by Politico. Manuel Bonder, a spokesman for Mr. Shapiro, declined to comment on the vice-presidential selection process. Mr. Walz and Mr. Beshear are set to appear at dueling, simultaneous fund-raisers to benefit Ms. Harris on Monday evening.

Harris' campaign started with sighs of relief from Democratic voters over Biden dropping out and instant enthusiasm that contributed to Harris' record-breaking fundraising efforts, Dagnes, who focuses on political media, said. "Young people represent a strategic sector for Kamala for two reasons," Gutiérrez told BI. AdvertisementTrump has also tried several lackluster nicknames against Harris, like "Laffin' Kamala Harris" and "Cackling Copilot Kamala Harris," which haven't gained traction like "Sleepy Joe" did against Biden. "By maintaining a high level of visibility and continuing to address key voter issues, Harris is well-positioned to leverage the remaining campaign period effectively."

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican presidential nominee and former U.S. President Donald Trump. Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Monday blamed Vice President Kamala Harris for the stock market's dramatic plunge, months after claiming he deserved credit for the market's then-record upswing. The night before, as Asian markets fell dramatically, the former president wrote, "STOCK MARKETS CRASHING. "THIS IS THE TRUMP STOCK MARKET BECAUSE MY POLLS AGAINST BIDEN ARE SO GOOD THAT INVESTORS ARE PROJECTING THAT I WILL WIN," he wrote on Truth Social that month. "To take us back to a time when insurance companies had the power to deny people with preexisting conditions," the vice president said.

The campaign is tapping state political directors to lead outreach to Republicans in their regions, the source told NBC News. However, the source said the campaign is having a difficult time locking in support from certain state leadership teams to head GOP outreach. As part of Sunday’s announcement, the Harris campaign said it will unveil a digital campaign where Republican Harris supporters make “their case online to fellow Republicans.”During the 2020 election, the Biden-Harris campaign relied on independent, never-Trump groups to court GOP voters. That source believes former Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., will eventually endorse Vice President Kamala Harris, though she was not included in Sunday’s rollout of campaign endorsements. The source also said they suggested that the Harris campaign court the endorsement of former Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., who endorsed President Joe Biden in 2020.

And the latest Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll taken in Georgia showed Harris and Trump tied at 47% support each among registered voters. Nearly 30 GOP members were cited as part of the new "Republicans for Harris" initiative launched Sunday. These include Stephanie Grisham, former White House press secretary under Trump, and national security official Olivia Troye — who worked as Vice President Mike Pence's national security advisor. By publicly defecting on the Republican presidential nominee, these officials leave a target on their back for attacks from Trump. That statistical dead-heat is why the Harris campaign is targeting undecided Republicans within who may be persuadable against their party's nominee. "Vice President Harris and our campaign are working overtime to earn the support of my fellow Republicans who care about defending democracy and restoring decency," he added.

CNN —Vice President Kamala Harris is planning to show up for the previously agreed-upon debate set for September 10 on ABC – even if Donald Trump does not, a source familiar with the matter tells CNN. The source says their understanding is ABC News would provide airtime to whichever candidate showed up – even if that ended up being just Harris. Trump said late Friday he had agreed to participate in a debate hosted by Fox News on September 4 and would no longer participate in the ABC debate as he had agreed to do when President Joe Biden was the presumptive Democratic nominee. Saturday morning, Harris campaign communications director Michael Tyler said in a statement that Trump needs to “stop playing games” with the presidential debate. “He needs to stop playing games and show up to the debate he already committed to on Sept 10.
