The Tate brothers and two Romanian female accomplices were released from house arrest and put under judicial control for a period of 60 days from August 4 to October 2, according to a court statement. Inquam Photos/Octav Ganea via REUTERS/File PhotoBUCHAREST, Aug 4 (Reuters) - A Bucharest court ruled on Friday to release internet personality Andrew Tate from house arrest where he is awaiting trial on charges of human trafficking, placing him under judicial control, a lighter restrictive measure. Under the new measure, the four suspects can leave the house, but not the capital Bucharest and the surrounding Ilfov county. The Tate brothers, who have dual U.S. and British citizenship, have been under house arrest since April pending an investigation into abuse against seven women, whom prosecutors say were lured through false claims of relationships. Tate, a self-described misogynist, has gained millions of fans by promoting an ultra-masculine lifestyle that critics say denigrates women.

New York CNN —The maker of Oreo and Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate is thanking an increased demand for sweets in the first half of the year for its positive forecast, Mondelez (MDLZ) International said in its second quarter earnings call Thursday. It expects a 12% organic net revenue growth compared to an analyst estimate of 10%, driven in part by high demand for its snacks offsetting the high cost of goods. It’s their second quarter in a row of growth. In the second quarter, net revenue increased 17% to $8.51 billion. It’s notable there was strong demand for snacks as extreme weather, the war in Ukraine, avian flu and higher costs along the supply chain increased global food prices.

The December she died, in 2021, grief had already lodged deep in my chest after I lost my beloved friend Greg Tate. It was hard to breathe, but harder to imagine returning to Harlem, where we’d spent afternoons that equaled years, writing, talking and walking. I began making this short documentary earlier that year, unable to know we’d lose Didion, Tate and bell hooks, three writers who meant the world to me. This is a short film about loss and memory, the flooded Midwestern basements where we collect family ephemera. But when I’m home and moving through spaces that hold my deepest memories, I feel mournful.

Elon Musk appeared to join in the criticism around Gerwig's "Barbie" in a tweet. "Barbie" may be storming the box office, but not everyone is a fan of Greta Gerwig's new pink-obsessed epic. "It you take a shot every time Barbie says the word "patriarchy", you will pass out before the movie ends," Musk said on Twitter, in response to a user's meme. Representatives for Musk did not respond to Insider's request for further comment with an answer that addressed the question. Last month, he told users that terms like "cisgender" and "cis" were considered "slurs" on Twitter.

July 20 (Reuters) - Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate said on Thursday the city could step in to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games after Victoria placed the future of the quadrennial multi-sport event in doubt by pulling out due to projected cost overruns. Tate told Australian media that the Gold Coast, which hosted the Games in 2018, had the infrastructure in place to put the event on. The Gold Coast lies south of Brisbane, which will host the 2032 Summer Olympics. "As witnessed in 2018, the Gold Coast demonstrated its remarkable ability to host a Games of exceptional quality, and one that left a profound impact on Australian sport," the body said in a statement. Australia, by far the Games' most successful competing nation, has hosted five of the previous 22 editions.

New York CNN —Elon Musk disclosed on Twitter Saturday that, due to a 50% drop in advertising revenue and a “heavy debt load,” the platform still has a negative cash flow. Ad revenue has been a contentious issue and an uphill battle for the site, after hordes of advertisers fled after Musk took over. The New York Times reported that Twitter’s US advertising revenue from the five weeks from April 1 to the first week of May was down 59% year-over-year, citing an internal presentation. “It’s definitely been extremely difficult,” Musk said in Twitter Spaces livestream event Musk hosted with Robert F. Kennedy, Jr last month. On Thursday, Twitter announced content creators would be able to get a slice of the site’s ad revenue, seemingly to encourage more creators to join the site.

"Need to reach positive cash flow before we have the luxury of anything else," Musk wrote in response to a tweet. Musk took over Twitter in October of last year in a deal valued at around $44 billion, including about $13 billion in debt. He also claimed at that time that the company was "roughly breakeven," and expected to become cash flow positive within the next quarter. A number of widely followed accounts on Twitter posted that they were dismayed they did not qualify to earn income from the program yet. It's not clear how much Twitter paid creators in total in this first round of payments.

Twitter announced Thursday it would start sharing ad revenue with some creators. Elon Musk has started sharing Twitter's ad revenue with a handful of accounts, hoping to incentivize the best creators to put their content on his platform. Twitter announced Thursday that creators would now be eligible to some of the company's ad revenue, "to help people earn a living directly" on the platform. But on the rare occasion Donaldson reveals how much ad revenue he makes, it is surprisingly little. Ad revenue traditionally aids smaller accounts who don't have their own brand deals — YouTube monetization is open to anyone with 1,000 subscribers.

Am account that reposts viral posts is among the big beneficiaries of Twitter's new monetization scheme. The "Internet Hall of Fame" account appears to have netted $100,000 from the scheme. Musk previously said that accounts based on "theft" of others' post would not get paid. The "internet hall of fame" account, which has 1.9 million followers and describes itself as highlighting the "best of the internet," in a screenshot Thursday was shown to have been paid $107,247.00. He didn't define exactly what he meant by "theft of posts," and it isn't totally clear whether Internet Hall of Fame would meet that definition.

BUCHAREST, June 23 (Reuters) - Internet personality Andrew Tate will remain under house arrest in Romania for another 30 days from the end of June pending trial on charges of human trafficking, a Bucharest court ruled on Friday. They are under house arrest pending an investigation into abuses against seven women whom prosecutors say were lured through false claims of relationships, accusations the suspects have denied. The four suspects were held in police custody from Dec. 29 until March 31 before a Bucharest court put them under house arrest, which prosecutors on Tuesday sought to extend. The court needs to approve preventative restrictive measures such as house arrest every 30 days. "We're not the first affluent wealthy men who have been unfairly attacked," Tate told reporters on Wednesday after the hearing.
