Amazon is cutting 5% of the workforce at its Audible division, according to an internal email obtained by Business Insider. On Thursday, Audible's CEO Bob Carrigan wrote an email to his team notifying the "tough decision to reduce roles within our organization," the email said. The job cuts follow broader layoffs at other parts of Amazon this week. Internal messages suggest more job cuts in Amazon Pay and marketing roles, as BI previously reported . Amazon acquired Audible, which provides audiobooks and podcasts, for roughly $300 million in 2008.

Spokespeople for the banks declined to provide comment ahead of the hearing or did not respond to requests for comment. Kevin Fromer, president of the Financial Services Forum, which represents the CEOs, said he expected Basel to be a focus. Big bank CEOs have been appearing before Congress for several years after the 2007-09 financial crisis and subsequent scandals thrust the industry into Washington's crosshairs. Former Wells Fargo CEO Tim Sloan, meanwhile, resigned in March 2019 after stumbling during a hearing about the bank's regulatory woes. The remarks by Hamas official Khalil al-Hayya late on Monday came as Israel expanded the roster of Palestinian detainees it could release in exchange for hostages - another signal that a revision of truce terms was being considered. Accordingly, Israel had originally pre-cleared 300 Palestinian women and teenaged male detainees for prospective release. Hamas seized some 240 people during its Oct. 7 cross-border killing spree that sparked the Gaza war. Among hostages it still holds are fathers and husbands of those it has freed in recent days. NEW YORK (AP) — Donald Trump's company no longer prepares the sweeping financial statements that New York state contends were full of deceptive numbers for years, an executive testified Monday at the former president's civil fraud trial. Trump's 2014 to 2021 “statements of financial condition” are at the heart of state Attorney General Letitia James' lawsuit against him, his company and some of its key figures. The defendants deny wrongdoing, but James says they misled lenders and insurers by giving them financial statements that greatly inflated Trump's asset values and overall net worth. Trump asserts that his wealth was understated, not overblown, on his financial statements. During cross-examination, Hawthorn acknowledged that Trump's financial statements could have been audited by the company, rather than just compiled, though he noted that auditing wasn't required.

The group usually has one active case against financial regulators, but currently has two against the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and one against the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), he said. To be sure, the financial regulators have been sued many times during previous administrations, including by pro-reform advocacy groups. "There are some financial regulators that are walking right into it," he added. In September, for example, bank groups accused regulators including the Federal Reserve of violating the APA with a new capital rule. (In response, Musk threatened a “thermonuclear” lawsuit, but as of this writing does not appear to have filed one.) Abhorrence of the Jewish state slips easily into abhorrence of Jews. On the right, though, there’s a mirror image of this slippage, with some defenders of the Jewish state willing to make excuses for antisemites so long as they champion Israel. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel has regularly embraced nationalist leaders who deploy antisemitic tropes, Donald Trump chief among them. It’s hard to figure out who is behaving more cynically, Musk or the Jewish leaders who are koshering him.
