Three-time Emmy-winning journalist and Los Angeles TV news anchor Chauncy Glover died unexpectedly on Tuesday, his family announced. His family announced the news in a statement to KCAL, writing: "We, Sherry and Robert Glover, along with Chauncy’s beloved family, are devastated by the unimaginable loss of our beloved Chauncy. Before working with KCAL in Los Angeles, Glover was the first Black male main anchor for Houston’s KTRK, where he was on the air for eight years, according to KCAL. One of his accomplishments outside of his journalistic career was founding "The Chauncy Glover Project," a mentoring program created to help develop "inner-city teenage boys into upstanding and accomplished gentlemen," according to its website. "Chauncy’s compassion and dedication to helping others, especially through the Chauncy Glover Project, changed countless lives and inspired so many young men to pursue their dreams,” his family wrote in their statement.

In 2023, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld an earlier ruling stating that Alabama’s district map likely discriminated against Black voters and mandated redrawing the 2nd District. The new area has a majority of Black voters — 47.6%, compared to 45% who are white. His late father, Michael Figures, was an Alabama state senator and his mother serves in that role now. Figures, 39, said he is happy to embrace the role of being an advocate for Black people in his state.

In their federal lawsuits, Missouri and Texas officials argued that their state laws did not permit federal officials to be present at polling places. Florida did not file a lawsuit, but Secretary of State Cord Byrd told the Justice Department in a letter Friday that state law does not allow DOJ officials in polling places. The DOJ was allowed to monitor polling places, he wrote, but was not allowed to send observers inside without a federal court order. Armed federal law enforcement officers are generally prohibited from entering polling places, which are secured by local law enforcement agencies.
