The streets were full of people walking to procure basic supplies with their cars ruined and the streets undrivable because of the mud and debris. Spain’s Interior Ministry said in a statement that regional administrations are responsible for sending alerts to warn the population of possible flooding and other natural disasters. Mazón is also under fire for his announcement at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday that the storm front would “lose strength” by 6:00 p.m. The size and violence of the extreme weather event was shocking and extremely difficult for any administration to prepare for and predict. But Valencia, on Spain’s Mediterranean coast, has a history of autumn storms that produce floods, albeit at a smaller magnitude than this monster of a storm.

“There’s no white knight coming,” a federal law enforcement official told NBC News, speaking on the condition of anonymity to describe the posture of federal authorities in the coming weeks, after Election Day. Law enforcement officials across the country said they believe the 2024 election will have a more sustained drumbeat of partisan rhetoric and disinformation than the 2020 election. The FBI has also set up a National Election Command Post at headquarters specifically to focus on election threats, as is standard practice in an election year. Two law enforcement officials expressed some concern that a federal response to any serious election issues could be chaotic and involve a “hodgepodge” of different state, local and federal law enforcement agencies and local election entities. Four other current and former law enforcement sources said they worried that disinformation and conspiracy theories could affect some segments of the law enforcement community, especially in parts of the country where Trump has significant support.

NCRI identified 951 accounts that engaged in “coordinated inauthentic activity” associated with a pro-Harris campaign called #BlueCrew. Researchers have repeatedly documented how propagandists have used automated accounts, or bots, to spread false narratives on social media. NBC NewsNot all accounts that engage in coordinated inauthentic behavior are bots. “These highly inauthentic accounts do more than spread misinformation; they establish a self-reinforcing cycle,” the NCRI report says. “This means that a relatively small subset of orchestrated, inauthentic accounts is responsible for a disproportionately large share of the misleading information being circulated.

Investors have been accumulating shares of several big-name companies, from GE Vernova to United Airlines , during the market's recent dip. But those and other overbought stocks could be due for a pullback, according to one popular yardstick. Strong earnings from tech giants Amazon and Intel late Thursday were partly responsible for equity gains on Friday, as investors still look to megacap tech stocks for leadership. CNBC Pro screened for stocks that are considered technically overbought on the basis of their 14-day relative strength index, or RSI. Companies with a 14-day RSI above 70 are often regarded as overbought, signaling a pullback may be ahead, while a 14-day RSI below 30 often suggests a stock is oversold and could see future upside.

Loading chart...LONDON — U.K. borrowing costs posted two days of gains right after the Labour government unveiled a huge package of borrowing and tax rises in its Wednesday budget — but analysts downplayed the possibility of a second "mini-budget" crisis in the British bond market. The 10-year gilt yield , representing medium-term borrowing costs for the government, was slightly lower on the day at 11:20 a.m. London time. Yields move inversely to prices, so higher yields represent a sell-off in bonds — and an aversion to funding U.K. debt. The incident sent bond yields soaring so rapidly, they threatened to destabilize pension funds. An overdue hunter in Alaska was found dead Wednesday after an apparent attack by at least one brown bear, state police said. A search was launched, and his remains were found at around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, state troopers said in a daily report of incidents. Investigators know a brown bear was involved because that's the only type of bear in the area, DeSpain said. Alaska has black bears, brown bears — which include grizzlies — and polar bears. In a social media landscape often dominated by playful dances and aesthetic montages, one surprising trend remains steadfast: historical grave cleaning. Stacey Habecker, known as “The Clean Girl” online, caused intense controversy with her upbeat and vibrant approach to grave cleaning. Despite the outcry of comments, reaction videos and expert advice, “The Clean Girl” continued creating and re-uploading grave cleaning videos to YouTube, Instagram and TikTok — getting hundreds of millions of views across her platforms. In some cultures, grave cleaning is part of family duty and tradition, such as with Día de los Muertos in Mexican and Central American culture. For members like Justin Frost, the hobby of grave cleaning came as a natural extension of a desire to learn more about his family history.

For many families, child care is often the biggest. Thanks to a state program launched during the recovery from the pandemic, they pay nothing for child care. Vice President Kamala Harris proposes capping child care costs at 7% of working families’ incomes, along with an up-to-$6,000 expanded child tax credit for those with newborns. The permanent fund now funnels more than $150 million from fossil fuel producers into child care subsidies, state officials estimate. As elder care costs continue to outpace inflation, the Democratic ticket sees that constituency as key to victory.
