The risk of oil supply disruptions increases as fighting in the Middle East intensifies, but OPEC+ is sitting on a large amount of spare crude that could step into the breach, according to Claudio Galimberti, chief economist at Rystad Energy. U.S. crude oil has gained 5% this week. "That would add a significant risk premium to oil," he told CNBC's "Street Signs Europe." The government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could take aim at the Islamic Republic's oil infrastructure in retaliation, geopolitical and crude market analysts say. "The next turn in this retaliation spiral may very well involve oil – via the degrading of Iran's oil capacityor Iran's proxies attacking oil and gas shipping from the Persian Gulf," Piper Sandler analysts told clients in a Wednesday research note. If Iran's oil exports of around 1.8 million bpd were taken offline, prices would likely jump by at least $5 per barrel, McNally said. An escalation on this scale could send oil prices higher in increments of $10 per barrel, the analyst said.

HONG KONG — Three people were killed and 15 others were injured in a knife attack at a supermarket in Shanghai on Monday evening, local police said, in the latest of a series of such stabbings in China. A 37-year-old suspect, surnamed Lin, was apprehended at the scene in Shanghai’s Songjiang district shortly after the attack. Lin went to Shanghai and carried out the attack “to vent his anger due to personal economic disputes,” police said. CNN —Basketball Hall of Famer Dikembe Mutombo – known for his shot-blocking and famed finger wave after denying opponents at the hoop – died Monday from brain cancer aged 58, according to the NBA. Dikembe Mutombo wags his finger during a game in Atlanta in 1998. In 1997, Mutombo established the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation with a mission to improve education and quality of life in his native DRC. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver issued a statement, saying, “Dikembe Mutombo was simply larger than life.
