ATHENS (Reuters) - Nine Greek lawmakers quit the leftist Syriza party on Thursday after breaking ranks with its new leader, formalising a split in the country's main opposition party which they said could now disintegrate. They resigned in protest over the leadership of 35-year old Stefanos Kasselakis, a former banker who was picked as party leader in September after Syriza's heavy defeat in June's national election. "SYRIZA is experiencing a dissolution crisis," the lawmakers said in a letter, accusing Kasselakis of contradictory positions and an ideological shift from leftist principles. The lawmakers who quit Syriza have the numbers to form a separate parliamentary group and could launch a new party ahead of European Parliament elections next year. "It is very uncertain how Syriza can succeed under these circumstances," head of ALCO pollsters Costas Panagopoulos told Reuters.

Cutting back on alcohol can be tough, especially if you enjoy going out with friends. After 22 years at his award-winning bar in Washington, D.C., Derek Brown decided that it was time to give up alcohol and shift to mindful drinking. Mindful drinking is an individual choice "to drink or not to drink alcohol in accordance with your goals, health or otherwise," says Brown, now a wellness coach and founder of Positive Damage Inc. Or it can mean choosing to not drink alcohol at all. To set himself up for success, Brown focused on the rate at which he was drinking.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Formula One is hoping to turn its luck around on the Strip, like so many other Las Vegas visitors who blow a big bankroll soon after they arrive. F1 ran a 90-minute session until 4 a.m. — when the streets had to be returned to the city for morning commuter traffic. A penalty because he ran over a drainage cover on the Las Vegas Strip, something completely out of his control and extremely dangerous considering it penetrated his seat? Because governing body FIA has no mechanism not to penalize a team that makes extensive car changes during a race weekend, Sainz has, of course, been penalized. Las Vegas is the most expensive race to attend to on the 24-event schedule.

It's natural to seek advice before making a big decision, but you should be careful that you're not excessively worrying about other people's opinions so much that you aren't making the right choices for yourself. "Some people's opinions do in fact matter, and they can have a significant impact on one's trajectory in life," says Michael Gervais, a psychologist with expertise on the link between the mind and human performance. At the heart of much of the debate over the new ethics code is which conflicts require recusal and whether justices should decide those questions for themselves. Justice Thomas, for instance, took part in cases on the 2020 election and its aftermath, even though Virginia Thomas, his wife, had participated in efforts to overturn the results. The new code does not say what can be done to address situations like that, said Renee Knake Jefferson, a law professor at the University of Houston. It does not apply to Supreme Court justices. There was a grudging quality to an introductory statement that preceded the new code, one that all but conceded that it was for show.

1 thing that makes us feel happy and live longer is positive relationships with romantic partners and friends. To remedy this sometimes intimidating process, Julie Rice and Elizabeth Cutler created Peoplehood, a "workout for your relationships", to help people find community. To get a better sense of the experience, I attended a Peoplehood gather. Peoplehood gathers are led by a guide, and she prompted us to start the experience with breathwork. WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — The watchdog office overseeing the National Science Foundation is sending investigators to Antarctica's McMurdo Station after hearing concerns about the prevalence of sexual violence at the U.S. research base. It announced Friday it is appointing Renée Ferranti as a special assistant to the NSF director to focus on sexual assault and harassment prevention and response.
