Yesterday, I got to my desk, ready to put the last touches on the book I'm writing with my friend Clifton Jones, who is in prison in Florida and goes by the name "Too Tall." I'm not that mom who heads to the pediatrician the second my kid complains. Even when I carve out time for work, the universe has other plansFor a second, I considered sending her there alone. I really thought I'd be ready to push my firstborn out the door, but it turns out I'm not that mom, after all. He's ready, I know that, but I'm still sad he's leaving.

In today’s edition, we report on how Kamala Harris' media strategy is (and isn't) changing following the debate. The campaign said Harris plans to do more interviews with media in battleground states and speak more with her traveling press corps in the coming days. Her campaign’s media strategy has largely been a continuation of Biden’s, which is to minimize interactions with the media. Right after the debate, Trump held a sprawling, ad hoc press conference in the “spin” room, surrounded by hundreds of journalists who formed a ring around him. The simple rules of postgame sports commentary often apply to politics: When you win, you don’t have to spin.

The campaign said Harris plans to do more interviews with local media in battleground states and speak more with her traveling press corps in the coming days. Her campaign’s media strategy has largely been a continuation of Biden’s, which is to minimize interactions with the media. Some allies said that Harris should use the momentum from the debate to change her cadence of interviews. “I don’t think you can hide for 56 more days from media interviews,” said one Democratic strategist, requesting anonymity to speak candidly. The Harris campaign also held a call that day, but it was off the record.

Last year, Falconi successfully petitioned the Nevada Supreme Court, which ruled that the public has a constitutional right to access Family Court cases. While the court is scheduled to hold evidentiary hearings next week, a decision from the court on media access could come at any time. If a judge does agree to unseal the case, it could have major ripple effects for Nevada family courts. Some have argued that sealing family court cases helps protect the privacy of vulnerable people. Falconi is not working with the media coalition, but said he hopes the national media attention on the Murdoch case will tangentially help his mission.

Gold prices edged higher on Thursday, with traders focusing on the upcoming U.S. economic data that may offer further insights into an expected reduction in the Federal Reserve's interest rate next week. Data on Wednesday showed that U.S. consumer prices rose marginally in August, but underlying inflation showed some stickiness, which could discourage the Federal Reserve from delivering a half-point interest rate cut next week. CPI data showed no major inflation spikes, which is supporting gold prices to hold above $2,500 and suggesting no immediate changes to Fed policy, Wong added. Palladium climbed 1.3% to $1,021.84, its highest since July 8, following comments on export regulations from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

UK economy flatlines again in July, below expectations
  + stars: | 2024-09-11 | by ( Karen Gilchrist | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +3 min
LONDON — The U.K. economy continued to flatline in July on a month-on-month basis, flash figures published from the Office for National Statistics showed Wednesday. Britain's economic growth was up 0.5% in the three month to July, slightly below economist expectations and the 0.6% recorded in the second quarter ending in June. The U.K. economy had recorded modest but steady expansion almost every month so far this year, having emerged from a shallow recession at the start of the year. Finance Minister Rachel Reeves said the print left her "under no illusion" of the challenges faced by the U.K. economy. But she added that further movement in interest rates anticipated from the Bank of England could help ease wider growth pressures.

Analysts at major Wall Street banks are getting more cautious on chip darling ASML , raising concerns about the critical chip equipment maker's demand outlook. Earlier this week, investment bank UBS downgraded ASML to "neutral" and cut its price target on the stock to 900 euros ($1,000.78) from 1,050 euros previously. Other Wall Street banks have subsequently come out with their own respective analyses on ASML — and they're more downbeat than they were before. The bank remains bullish on the stock, though, keeping ASML in its top pick for EU semiconductor equipment stocks. UBS cautioned ASML's machines could face a slowdown in demand due to an "architecture shift" to gate all around architecture, or GAA.

Broadcom reported an earnings beat Thursday, driven by strong sales of its AI products and VMware software. We view Broadcom as one of the biggest AI beneficiaries through its networking and custom chip businesses. However, Broadcom generated $5.3 billion in free cash flow when excluding restructuring and integration cash costs in the quarter. The semi number is a slight miss versus expectations, and the difference is probably due to the non-AI business lines because AI sales are humming. Broadcom raised its full-year AI revenue forecast to $12 billion, up from prior guidance of over $11 billion.

The company slipped into the FTSE 250 during September's quarterly rebalancing, index provider FTSE Russell said in a statement, bringing its 15-year run in the U.K. large-cap FTSE 100 blue-chip index to a close. The company's current market cap of £2.34 billion ($3.06 billion) now puts it well below the other constituents of the FTSE 100, as well as some of the top performers in the FTSE 250. As such, funds that invest in the FTSE 100 will exit their Burberry holdings. The luxury label's addition to the FTSE 100 in September 2009 was taken as a further mark of its enduring appeal and its resilience, even amid the global financial crisis. The luxury sector as a whole has suffered from a prolonged downturn in consumer spending amid inflationary pressures and broader economic uncertainty.

Critical chip equipment supplier ASML is set to face softer demand from buyers of its products in the coming years — and the artificial intelligence boom won't be enough to offset these downside risks, according to analysts at investment bank UBS . Such memory chip makers include Samsung and Nvidia supplier SK Hynix. ASML is behind a key technology involved in chip manufacturing known as EUV, or extreme ultraviolet radiation. DRAM is a type of memory chip that's needed for a computer to function.
