Scientists called Campeche an archaeological “blank spot” in the Maya Lowlands, an area spanning what is now Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala and southeastern Mexico, and which the Maya inhabited from about 1000 BC to AD 1500. Like other large capital cities from Maya sites, Valeriana had a reservoir, a ball court, temple pyramids and a broad road connecting enclosed plazas. In total, the researchers identified 6,764 structures in Valeriana and in other rural and urban settlements of varying sizes. In the north, Maya sites such as Chichén Itzá are highly visible. Morales-Aguilar’s work on Maya settlements in Guatemala aligns closely with the new findings, he told CNN in an email.

The biggest contribution last month came from health care and social assistance, with 51,300 new positions added in that area, per data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. If private education is included with the health care group, like some economists do, the category would have shown even more growth at 57,000. Government had the second-highest gains in the period, seeing jobs surge by 40,000. Meanwhile, wholesale trade and construction also saw some gains, recording growth of 10,400 and 8,000, respectively.

However, a common thread among economists is that the strikes and hurricanes could take a 100,000-job bite out of the October jobs report. The last time there were back-to-back major hurricanes — Harvey and Irma in 2017 — the forecasts for the following month’s jobs report were for a loss of 33,000 positions. Together, Pennsylvania’s mail ballot rules have generated an entire vocabulary for rejected mail ballots — ballots that are unsigned, undated or misdated, or even “naked,” if they are not clothed in a secrecy envelope. The latest update from Oct. 31 — after the general statewide deadline to request a mail ballot — shows there were 2,193,578 mail ballot applications ever approved. Combined with the deficient returned ballots that we already know about referenced above, that comes to about 8,000 deficient mail ballots that have been returned to date. Although this general election will likely see more mail ballots returned than the previous midterm, the trend so far suggests we might have fewer mail ballots rejected. Moreover, the experience in 2022 suggests there will also be thousands of provisional ballots cast by voters who return deficient mail ballots.

The early votes of new voters — voters who did not show up in 2020 — are of particular interest because they are votes that could change what happens in 2024 relative to the last presidential election. The data out of Pennsylvania shows large differences in the number of votes cast by new voters, both by party registration and by gender. More new voters are registered Democrats than Republicans, and new female voters are driving this partisan gap. The structure of the daily chart remains positive as long as Visa remains above the $290 price point, which now serves as potential support. The weekly RSI has remained above 40 during pullbacks in October 2023 and June 2024, demonstrating that the overall momentum picture remains bullish on the long-term time frame. Similar to the buy signal in November 2023, we see this as a sign of renewed bullish sentiment for Visa. And as long as Visa remains above moving average support, this payment processor could be headed to much further gains into early 2025.
