Hamas' armed wing, the Izz el-Deen al-Qassam Brigades, has released two U.S. hostages from Gaza — a mother and her daughter — "for humanitarian reasons" in response to Qatari mediation efforts in the war with Israel, its spokesman Abu Ubaida said on Friday. It said more than 20 hostages have been killed by Israeli air strikes, but has not given any further details. Israel has also said that there will be no end to its full blockade of the enclave unless Israeli hostages are freed. Hamas has released a video of Mia Schem, a 21-year-old French-Israeli woman captured at a dance party. American and British officials have confirmed they have been working with Qatar to secure the release of hostages, including their citizens, held in Gaza.

Israel has responded by pounding Gaza with air strikes, killing thousands, and has said it will act to free the hostages while wiping out Hamas. Hamas has suggested the hostages could be swapped for approximately 6,000 Palestinians held in Israeli prisons. Israel has said that there will be no end to the blockade of the enclave without freedom for Israeli hostages. Israel says the hostages were taken to Gaza but their exact whereabouts within the enclave are unknown, making their rescue more complicated. U.S. President Joe Biden said his administration is "workin’ like hell" to find American hostages held by Hamas.

The recent attacks on Israel by Hamas have reignited one of the most intractable conflicts in the Middle East. The surprise assault by the group's militant wing on Oct. 7 left nearly 1,300 dead, mostly Israeli civilians. Within Israel lies the Gaza Strip, a Palestinian territory controlled by the militant group Hamas. On Oct. 8, a day following the Hamas attack, Hezbollah exchanged rocket fire across the Lebanese border with Israel. In the days that followed, Israeli forces drove Hamas back into the Gaza Strip, regaining control of the infiltrated towns, though Hamas took hostages with them.

“Breaking 234 years of precedent, the incumbent administration has charged President Trump for acts that lie not just within the ‘outer perimeter,’ but at the heart of his official responsibilities as President,” Trump’s lawyers wrote in the court filing. Earlier this week, Trump’s lawyers reportedly motioned to dismiss charges related to hush money payments in a New York case, where they argued that the indictment was intended to interfere with the presidential election. His lawyers also requested this week that his federal trial in Florida relating to the mishandling of classified documents be delayed until after the presidential election. The most memorable and oft-quoted line of her opinion suggested she might take a dim view of Trump’s sweeping immunity claim. The case seems likely to end up before the Supreme Court, which has a mixed track record on the issue.

Due to the competitive real estate market, even in small-town Kansas, homes only stayed on the market for a matter of days at most. Our competition responded first, by keeping their offer as it was but waived their right to have the house inspected before closing. CNN —Researchers working at a cave in southern Spain have found evidence that the skeletal remains of ancient humans buried there were dug up, modified and even used as tools by subsequent generations. While these types of remains are known as “skull cups,” that doesn’t necessarily mean they were used as containers, Milella said. “Modification and manipulation of human remains are indeed well known for this time, with examples also from the same region. In that sense, Marmoles Cave is consistent with what we know about the funerary behavior of these cultures,” he said. And it is also possible that those who modified the remains may have known the people that they belonged to when they were alive.
