Never was there any doubt that Miami, the nation’s most Pan-American city, was the most fitting place to host the final game of the Copa América, a South American soccer tournament that is being held in the United States for only the second time in a century. But even the tournament’s organizers could not script a matchup like the one that will take place on Sunday night between Argentina and Colombia — two countries that, on any given day, would be received like the home team in South Florida. “That stadium is not going to feel like you’re in Miami — or in the U.S., for that matter,” said Juan C. Zapata, who was the first Colombian American elected to the Florida Legislature. “It is a very Miami final.”The tournament, which started on June 20, has lost some of its trademark South American feel being played entirely in the United States, with empty seats at some matches and players complaining about the surfaces of several fields. But the setting of the final may restore some of Copa América’s typical festive energy.

But there's no denying that a large number of people, mostly women, found Joe Arden's voice to be exceedingly hot: smooth, insistent, husky, occasionally dropping to a seductive growl. Arden's voice made him one of the most popular romance audiobook narrators of his generation. Last year, a promising new romance author reached out to Blue Nose Audio and received a reply from Joe Arden. "My working name of 'Joe Arden,' has always been just that, a professional persona that labeled my career," he added. For good measure, they dug up Cronin's abandoned trademark application for the Joe Arden moniker, first filed in 2020.

New York CNN —With interest rate cuts on the backburner, Wall Street is looking to corporate earnings to continue powering the 2024 stock market rally. Analysts polled by FactSet expect second-quarter earnings of S&P 500 companies to grow about 8.7% on average from the prior year. Strong corporate earnings have helped the S&P 500 gain a whopping 16% and notch repeated record high closes this year. Since the Fed isn’t likely to cut rates anytime soon, the onus is on strong corporate earnings to continue driving the market rally. Earnings season kicks off July 12 when big banks including JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo and Citigroup report results.

“What worries policymakers is the interest rate risk, which will rise once the dominant narrative shifts from deflation to reflation,” Hu from Macquarie said. If that happens, bond yields will rise as investors switch back into riskier stocks. The country’s “4,000 or so small and medium-sized banks” will be particularly vulnerable to the interest rate risk, he added. “The bubble formed by the rush of funds into the bond market is accumulating interest rate risks,” the Securities Times said in an editorial. New York CNN —Inflation rates in Canada, the EU and Australia have popped higher in recent months. But that disconnect appears to be fading as inflation rates in the US continue to ease. The US also had a recent scare as inflation rates ticked higher. But after a year of the Fed holding interest rates steady at a 23-year high, inflation rates in the United States are once again declining. High inflation readings around the globe are concerning investors, José Torres, senior economist at Interactive Brokers, told CNN.

New York CNN —The parent company of Redbox, those distinctive, red-colored kiosks at grocery stores that sell or rent DVDs, has filed for bankruptcy after enduring months of financial struggle. Filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy could help the company fix those issues if its plans are approved by a court in Delaware. The company’s publishing arm, which produces those ubiquitous self-help books that were once a worldwide phenomenon, isn’t affected by the bankruptcy filing of its entertainment unit. The number of Redbox kiosks has grown to about 34,000 across the US, largely located at grocery and drug stores. Since its 2002 launch, Redbox has rented its 1 billion discs at prices cheaper than cable, according to its website.

The Supreme Court sided on Friday with a member of the mob that stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, saying that prosecutors had overstepped in using an obstruction law to charge him. I found this levered concept incredibly valuable when I ran other peoples' money at my hedge fund years ago. My first question to them, usually interjected, rudely, if I were bored or confused was: "What the heck is this business levered to?" Palo Alto Networks To understand this kind of leverage that I am talking about — as opposed to the kind that involves debt —let's start with something easy, let's start with the stock of Palo Alto Networks . We own Palo Alto because its fortunes are levered to something that has the most explosive growth of an industry I know: cybercrime. If we didn't own Palo Alto we would own CrowdStrike.

Scott Wren, a senior global market strategist at Wells Fargo Investment Institute, recently noted that market breadth is abnormally narrow. He found that the five best performers in the S&P 500 accounted for nearly three-fifths of its exceptional 10.6% year-to-date gain through May 31. That fate will soon apply to the S&P 500, Wren warned. Such a sell-off would take the S&P 500 below 5,000 for the first time since April. "And it's tough to be patient when the S&P 500 set a bunch of all-time high records."
