Elon Musk’s posts on his social media platform X get far more attention when they cast doubt on the integrity of the electoral process, an NBC News analysis has found. The difference in reach was vast: 5.2 times more likes, 4.2 times more comments and 9.1 times more reposts, when comparing the median election-doubting post to the median election post that didn’t cast doubt on the process. In addition to owning X, Musk is its biggest account, with more than 202 million followers, according to the app’s tally of his following. X has developed a clear tilt in favor of far-right users and posts since Musk bought it two years ago, according to researchers. Musk told an editor at The Atlantic in July that he would “of course” accept the results of the presidential election, according to the magazine.

Israel has officially notified the United Nations that it was cancelling the agreement that regulated its relations with the main U.N. relief organization for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) since 1967, the country’s foreign ministry said on Monday. A Palestinian man carries a bag of flour distributed by UNRWA in Deir al Balah, central Gaza on Saturday. The ban does not refer to operations in the Palestinian territories or elsewhere. The legislation does not directly outlaw UNRWA’s operations in the West Bank and Gaza, both considered by international law to be outside the state of Israel but under Israeli occupation. The Israeli foreign ministry said activity by other international organizations would be expanded and “preparations will be made to end the connection with UNRWA and to boost alternatives to UNRWA.”

Brendan McDermid | ReutersStocks typically rise after a presidential election — but investors need to be prepared for some short-term choppiness first, history shows. There has been a record outflow of more than $10 billion in foreign funds from India stocks, while foreigners pulled $700 million from the debt market. AppLovin has soared 310% in 2024, beating every U.S. tech company with a market cap of at least $5 billion, according to FactSet data. The technology helps put more targeted ads on the mobile gaming apps the company owns, and works for other studios that license the software. They said the company's "real opportunity" is to catch the influx in brand advertising towards mobile gaming from more conventional channels like social media or legacy broadcasting. Because of its position in digital advertising, AppLovin faces potential competition from some of the most well-capitalized companies on the planet. In 2022, AppLovin gave up on efforts to buy gaming software developer Unity Software for $20 billion, after Unity shareholders rejected the bid.

Israel carried out a series of precision strikes on military targets in Iran late last month. AdvertisementIran is signaling that it will deliver a harsh response to Israel's late-October strikes, which were revenge for Tehran's retaliatory ballistic missile attack at the start of the month. However, another direct Iranian attack on Israel — which would be its third ever — invites additional Israeli strikes at a time when Tehran is dangerously unprepared. Israel struck several S-300s, a Russian-made surface-to-air missile system considered to be the most advanced air-defense battery that Iran operates. Newly public child care services provider KinderCare Learning has a standout strategy that could boost its profits well into the future, according to Goldman Sachs. Goldman Sachs led the KinderCare initial public offering at $24 a share last month. The company also serves families across all income demographics, including those that get subsidies for child care, which broadens its addressable market. Goldman estimates the domestic child care industry is worth about $76 billion, and predicts it should grow at an annual rate of about 6% long term. Tong expects KinderCare revenue to top that, rising between 6% and 9%, as it makes acquisitions of smaller providers and further cements its advantages as a large-scale player.

The Summary FEMA and NOAA have become politicized as the frequency and severity of natural disasters have increased. With the neck-and-neck 2024 election just days away, the futures of the federal agencies responsible for weather forecasting, climate change research and disaster recovery hang in the balance. And with it, they’ve become a target for some conservatives who are skeptical of climate change and want to slash government budgets. “Climate change is a very unique problem in that, like most environmental problems, it doesn’t respect our political boundaries and it doesn’t respect our state boundaries,” he said. “We need centralized federal agencies to respond to climate change, agencies that can handle big, significant, multistate disasters at the appropriate scale.”

With Election Day around the corner, there's been just shy of $1 billion spent on political ads up and down the ballot in the last week, data from the ad-tracking firm AdImpact shows. The most expensive race over the last week is, unsurprisingly, the presidential race, where more than $272 million has been spent on ads, according to data from AdImpact. There's been more than $267 million spent on ads in down-ballot races, meaning all of the other races outside of races for president, governor and Congress. One other down-ballot race saw more than $10 million in ad spending over the last week: California's referendum on rent control. Governors races have had just $18 million in ad spending in the last week, thanks to a relative lack of competitive races this cycle.
