☆ Justice Department to defend DEI policy that threatens to derail Boeing deal

O’Connor set a deadline of Friday for the administration to explain its use of so-called DEI policies in that program. The diversity language used in the Boeing criminal plea deal has been around since at least 2018 – during the Trump administration, according to a person familiar with the policy. Still, it has become a key holdup as O’Connor mulls whether to approve the plea deal. Now, the court battle playing out in Texas will decide whether to allow Boeing to plead guilty as part of a deal with the Justice Department to resolve a criminal investigation stemming from plane crashes that killed 346 people. The issue first arose at an October 11 hearing in Fort Worth, where O’Connor worked through the routine details of the plea deal before taking a sharp detour to ask why the Justice Department included DEI considerations in choosing a monitor.

Memorable AI uses AI models to predict which images and videos will catch users' attention and encourage them to engage with an ad. Acevedo, a Memorable AI cofounder who had been the startup's CEO, now leads product for Reddit's new ads media intelligence team, which combines data on creative performance with the company's advertising AI models. Fosco, a fellow cofounder who had been Memorable AI's chief technology officer, leads engineering in the ads intelligence team. "The acquisition of Memorable AI, coupled with its focus on creative effectiveness, now gives Reddit the missing piece to continue improving performance for our advertisers," Fosco said.

The prolonged nationwide blackout that followed a massive outage Thursday night was part of countrywide energy problems that led to the largest protests in Cuba in almost 30 years, in July 2021. The Cuban government on state television Monday night said that it's producing 1300 megawatts when peak demand can hit 3 gigawatts. He said that Oscar would bring "an additional inconvenience" to Cuba's recovery since it would affect key Cuban power plants, such as Felton in the city of Holguín, and Renté in Santiago de Cuba. The blackout was considered to be Cuba's worst since Hurricane Ian hit the island as a Category 3 storm in 2022 and damaged power installations.
