In a video posted to Twitter with the caption "Mar-a-Lago 2023 New Year headed right to 2024!" Giuliani did not appear to notice and posted the video as people danced around him and photobombed the camera. Former President Donald Trump and former first lady Melania Trump arrive for a New Years Eve party at Mar-a-Lago, in Palm Beach, Fla., Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022.
Streaming and broadcast news network Newsy is being scrapped and rebranded as Scripps News. Parent company E.W. Bellini is a San Francisco-based reporter for Newsy, the 14-year-old streaming news platform owned by E.W. Scripps News is also absorbing scores of executives from a national desk that fed the company's 61 local stations. Its local stations pulled in $208 million in ad revenue thanks to the midterm elections.
MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell baselessly questioned whether Ron DeSantis legitimately won his 2022 election. He said that DeSantis winning Miami-Dade County, a typically blue county, was "a deviation from norm." Lindell is a fervent Trump ally, and DeSantis is emerging as his fiercest political rival. Lindell questioned DeSantis' win in Miami-Dade County, which has historically mostly voted Democratic, while appearing on his show "The Lindell Report." Lindell has been among the most vocal proponents of Trump's election fraud conspiracy theories.
DeSantis could end up running for president in 2024, and he's widely viewed as similar to Trump. He's "Trump without the baggage," "Trump with a brain," Trump "without the drama," and "Trump's Mini Me." The pile on is a problem for both men should DeSantis join Trump in the ring for the 2024 nomination contest. "We know what we get with President Trump," he said. In Florida, DeSantis pushed the legislature to limit ballot collection by non-family members.
“My daughter is just a cute little 6-year-old white girl — we couldn’t find anybody that looked like my daughter. It begs the question: What does an American Girl look like today? Because, going by the numbers, American Girl dolls represent what America looks like at present — not a “wokeified” version, but a real one. American Girl’s ethos is to build girls of strong character and help them reach their full potential. It is a future that can’t be stopped by a ridiculous anchor decrying that he can’t find a white doll for his cute white child.
The Justice Department prosecuted the first Oath Keepers seditious conspiracy case earlier this fall with mixed success – two leaders, including Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes, were convicted of the charge while three others were acquitted. That adjustment was on full display Monday, as prosecutor Troy Edwards delivered his opening argument to the jury. Prosecutors struggled at times during the first trial to explain whether Rhodes directly ordered his militia to enter the Capitol building. Rhodes told them it was now time to take their place in history,” Edwards said. When the Oath Keepers heard that the Capitol had been breached, Edwards said they hustled toward the chaos.
Rep. Pat Fallon recently called Elon Musk's Twitter takeover "the best $44 billion I've seen spent in recent history." Fallon invested at least $65,000 in Twitter stock in January 2022 and sold his shares when Musk bought the company. With Musk's purchase, Insider calculated Fallon could have earned as much as $35,000 in profit. While Fallon traded Twitter stock on and off in 2021, his annual financial disclosure notes he ended the year with no Twitter holdings. But Fallon has been an outspoken fan of Musk's Twitter takeover — on Saturday, for example, he told Newsmax that Musk's recent purchase of Twitter was the "best $44 billion I've seen spent in recent history."
Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy says it challenges Fox News for conservative viewers but also wants Democrats. Ruddy said Donald Trump shouldn't run in 2024 because "he's a guy that doesn't need the presidency." Here's why a media CEO who considers Donald Trump a good friend doesn't think his good friend should run for president again. Let's talk about the Arizona call[during the 2020 election]: Fox News called that election within 20 minutes. I would prefer Trump not run because I don't think it's good for him personally.
McCarthy said Republicans could cede control of the House in January if they aren't unified. While on Newsmax, the Californian warned against the GOP playing "games" on the House floor. McCarthy is working to round up votes among GOP members that he'll need to lead the lower chamber. If we play games on the floor, the Democrats could end up picking who the speaker is," he said. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia cautioned against a handful of Republicans potentially joining Democrats in selecting a more moderate speaker.
Smartmatic subpoenaed Christina Bobb as part of its lawsuit against Fox News and Rudy Giuliani. Bobb pushed election conspiracy theories while simultaneously working for OAN and with Trump's lawyers. Smartmatic has other parallel lawsuits pending against election conspiracy theorists Sidney Powell and Mike Lindell. A defamation lawsuit against OAN from Dominion, a rival election technology company also caught up in conspiracy theories, alleged Solomon "was in fact a convicted felon with no college degree." At the same time Bobb worked for OAN, she freelanced for Trump's personal attorneys, including Giuliani, to help with legal challenges against the election results.
Marjorie Taylor Greene says she isn't afraid of a GOP civil war. Matt Gaetz, a close ally of Greene's, vowed to not support McCarthy for House GOP leader. I'm telling you — I've always said I'm not afraid of the civil war in the GOP. During her conversation with Bannon, Greene broke with her House Freedom Caucus allies and backed McCarthy's bid for House Speaker. I’m not afraid of the civil war in the GOP.
The big three broadcast networks, to no surprise, ignored Trump and didn’t interrupt normal programming to carry the speech. While MSNBC decided not to take the speech live, Fox News and CNN both aired large portions of Trump’s fairly low-energy and misinformation-peppered announcement. Hannity, whose show hyped Trump’s announcement throughout the event in the chyron, turned to pro-Trump commentators Pete Hegseth and Mike Huckabee for analysis. It’s also worth noting how print and digital outlets covered the speech. Instead, Trump joked he would not “use the term ‘fake news media’” because he wanted to keep the event “elegant.”We’ll see how long that lasts.
Trump is going to make a "professional, very buttoned-up" announcement about his 2024 bid, an advisor said. Jason Miller said Trump was going ahead with the Tuesday announcement, despite disappointing midterm results. "President Trump is going to announce on Tuesday that he's running for president, and it's going to be a very professional, very buttoned-up announcement," Miller told Steve Bannon on his "War Room" podcast. Trump has long been hinting at his plans to run in 2024, which would be his third presidential run. In recent days Trump has been lashing out at DeSantis, who he has nicknamed Ron DeSanctimonious, and suggested he is disloyal for not ruling out a 2024 run.
Donald Trump teased plans to announce his presidential campaign shortly after the midterms. Miller told Newsmax that no formal decision has been made yet, and acknowledged that Trump teased plans about a "big announcement" on November 15 to be made at Mar-a-Lago. Though Trump didn't specify what that announcement was, it was largely surmised to be regarding his 2024 campaign launch. "I think if they win, I should get all the credit, and if they lose, I should not be blamed at all," Trump told NewsNation during an interview on Tuesday. One anonymous source close to the former president told CNN that Trump appeared to be reluctant to delay his campaign announcement until after the Georgia race.
Elon Musk joked that when AOC's Twitter account stopped working it was "a naked abuse of power." The lawmaker said her account stopped working after a spat with Musk, who now owns Twitter. It was a naked abuse of power." Their latest spat began after Ocasio-Cortez criticized Musk's plan to charge Twitter users $8 for blue ticks. Twitter, Musk, and representatives for Ocasio-Cortez didn't immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.
A Doug Mastriano rally in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, featured praying and wading into culture wars. National and state Republican donors and groups have offered little support to his candidacy. "He's just been there the whole time," a Mastriano voter in Bucks County who only identified himself as Jeremy, told Insider. "You can't get your message out one-on-one to voters," Josh Novotney, a Pennsylvania GOP strategist, told Insider. "It's a different tactic and I pray it works," Joe Vichot, chairman of Lehigh County's GOP, told Insider.
The Rumble video platform logo on a laptop computer arranged in Hastings on Hudson, New York, on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021. Trump Media and Technology Group executives named Parler and Rumble as theoretical acquisitions or partners, according to documents provided by co-founder and whistleblower, William Wilkerson, through his counsel. Wilkerson was one of the early executives at Trump Media and its Twitter-esque social media platform Truth Social. DWAC and Trump Media are also the subject of a criminal probe into possible securities violations relating to conversations that occurred between the two parties prior to the merger announcement. While the photo names these possible acquisition targets, it also names a number of other ventures for Trump Media that have yet to come to fruition, including "Trump Faith/Classic Films," "Trump Book Publishing" and "Trump Documentaries."
An assortment of conservatives are lobbying Elon Musk to undo Twitter bans on prominent allies. Musk has said he opposes permanent bans and plans to roll back moderation on Twitter. But Twitter is enforcing legal sanctions on the networks in the EU and UK which prevents people seeing their content. Twitter has said it never shadowbans anybody, though Musk said Friday he was "digging in" to the allegations. Evolutionary biologist and podcaster Bret Weinstein, who has long questioned COVID-19 vaccine efficacy, also called for Musk to reinstate anti-vaxxer Dr Robert Malone.
Elon Musk completed his $44 billion takeover of Twitter on Thursday. Trump supporters and right-wing political pundits celebrated the news on Twitter. "The bird is freed," Musk tweeted after he completed his $44 billion acquisition of the company. Greene tweeted in response to the news. Marjorie Taylor Greene🇺🇸 (@RepMTG) October 28, 2022Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado, another prominent Trump supporter in Congress, tweeted: "Congratulations, @elonmusk!
Trump lawyer Alina Habba said he should have "no problem" testifying to the January 6 committee. The committee's subpoena demanded a wide range of Trump's communication records that would cover any exchanges he had while the Capitol was under attack. It asks Trump to submit documents by November 4 and then sit to testify around the middle of the month. On Newsmax — where chyrons echoed Trump by calling it a "political witch hunt" — Bolling outlined how Trump might respond. Former White House strategist Steve Bannon was sentenced to four months in prison for contempt of Congress after he refused the committee's subpoena.
John Fetterman suffered days before winning the Democratic Senate nomination in May. The stroke added a new wrinkle to a race that could determine which party takes control of the 50-50 U.S. Senate. The Oz campaign is clearly hoping that perception will hurt Fetterman. In one egregious example, Oz issued a list of “concessions” for their debate Tuesday night that many see as mocking. Benjamin Abella, a professor of emergency medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, criticized the Oz campaign for shaming a stroke survivor.
Lara Logan, a war correspondent turned conspiracy theorist, went on a QAnon-inspired rant on Newsmax. She accused world leaders of dining on the blood of children and making people eat insects. The Guardian reported that Logan told Newsmax host Eric Bolling that world leaders "dine on the blood of children," referring to the blood libel conspiracy theory that proliferates in QAnon circles. You know, the ones who want us eating insects, cockroaches, and that while they dine on the blood of children? Newsmax, in a statement to The Hill on Friday, said it "condemns in the strongest terms the reprehensible statements made by Lara Logan."
New York CNN Business —The right-wing channel Newsmax has banned Lara Logan from its air after she went on a QAnon-style rant during an appearance on the network this week. “Newsmax condemns in the strongest terms the reprehensible statements made by Lara Logan and her views do not reflect our network,” a network spokesperson said. “We have no plans to interview her again.”Logan did not immediately respond to a CNN request for comment. After her departure from CBS, Logan became a regular fixture on Fox News’ right-wing talk programs. Logan said earlier this year that she was “dumped” by Fox News.
Trump was deposed at Mar-a-Lago on Wednesday in writer E. Jean Carroll's 2019 rape defamation suit. In his first response, Trump 'truthed' two clips from the conservative video platform Rumble. Without commenting, Trump 'truthed' out a pair of Rumble clips that combined snippets of old interview footage of Carroll. The misleadingly edited, minute-long clips use Carroll's out-of-context remarks to imply she fantasizes about rape and did not take her own accusations against Trump seriously. Carroll has accused Trump of raping her in the mid-'90s in the fitting room of a Manhattan Bergdorf Goodman store.
Just three years ago, then-Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard stood on the Democratic presidential debate stage and pitched herself as a leader committed to moving the party forward. That Gabbard is tough to square with the bitter also-ran who told the world on Twitter on Tuesday morning that she was officially leaving the Democratic Party. Gabbard’s minute-long good riddance video might have been a bigger media surprise had she not spent much of the last two years savaging the Democratic Party and drifting relentlessly rightward. Pennsylvania state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta was more succinct in his snark, tweeting, “Wait, Tulsi Gabbard was a Democrat?”Gabbard’s reasons for leaving read like a typical Tucker Carlson monologue. On Wednesday, just a day after announcing her departure from the Democratic Party, Gabbard announced the launch of “The Tulsi Gabbard Show” on Apple Podcasts.
