The share price of Trump Media was down by more than 8% in midday trading Wednesday, putting the company's market capitalization below $5 billion. ET, well below the $70.90 that the stock opened trading at on March 26, its first day as a publicly traded company. The company's biggest shareholder is former President Donald Trump, who holds a nearly 60% stake in the company. Trump's shares were worth less than $2.8 billion in midday trading, a steep drop from the more than $5 billion in paper value they had two weeks ago. Trump Media, which owns the Truth Social app, reported revenue of just $4.1 million for 2023, and a net loss of $58 million for the year.

Speaker Mike Johnson on Wednesday faced a buzz saw of Republican opposition to his bid to extend a warrantless surveillance law that national security officials call crucial to their efforts to fight terrorism, after former President Donald J. Trump urged lawmakers to kill the legislation. Republican leaders said they would plunge ahead with a midday vote to bring up the bill, which would extend a section of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act known as Section 702 and make modest changes. Aides said it was possible that Republicans would yank the bill if they failed to quell the brewing revolt. No Democrats were expected to vote to move forward on the measure — among other things, Republicans have bundled it with an unrelated resolution condemning President Biden’s border policies — so just three Republican defections would be enough to scuttle the move. At least one hard-right member, Representative Matt Gaetz of Florida, has already pledged to try to tank it.

Hedge fund managers gathered Wednesday at the 2024 Sohn Investment Conference in New York to share their best investment ideas. It kicked off with "Next Wave Sohn," a session that features ideas from rising stars within the hedge fund industry. Endocrinology is an $8 billion market, but the cumulative market size, including the company's future therapy targets, is upward of $200 billion, which includes estimates for future obesity drugs, the investor said. United Airlines is asking its pilots to take time off in May because of delays in receiving new planes that the airline ordered from Boeing, which is struggling with production due to manufacturing problems. A United spokesperson said Monday that the offer is voluntary. Almost all of the shortfall consists of Boeing 737 Max planes, including a new, larger model. United CEO Scott Kirby is one of several airline executives who have called out problems at Boeing and sought a meeting with Boeing directors.
