Seoul CNN —North Korean balloons “presumed” to be carrying waste were spotted in South Korea on Monday, reigniting a tit-for-tat exchange as tensions on the Korean Peninsula continue to heighten. On Thursday, a South Korean advocacy group flew 20 large balloons carrying thousands of anti-North Korean propaganda leaflets and USB sticks with South Korean entertainment toward North Korea. The balloons also carried damaged clothes from a South Korean brand, signaling “hostility towards South Korean goods,” as well as clothes with imitations of Disney characters, according to the ministry. In the meantime, a US Navy aircraft carrier arrived in South Korea over the weekend ahead of trilateral exercises with South Korea and Japan in the waters near the peninsula. US and South Korean officials signed a new memorandum of understanding on diplomatic intelligence sharing and analysis on Monday, according to South Korea’s foreign ministry.

For the first time in decades, a single television network will have sole discretion over the look, feel and cadence of a general-election presidential debate. Unlike in past years, when an independent, nonprofit commission oversaw the contests, CNN has picked the moderators, designed the set and will choose the camera angles that viewers see. Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford said he’ll take the issue to the state Supreme Court after Clark County District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus ruled that Las Vegas was the wrong venue for the case. “They’re done,” said Margaret McLetchie, attorney for Clark County Republican Party chairman Jesse Law, one of the defendants in the case. This dynamic — a heating job market and cooling inflation — is in part the result of increased inflows of immigrants. Typically, a hot labor market walks a tightrope that could easily collapse into reheated inflation. But the Brookings researchers recalculated the government's estimates — this time, factoring the impact of immigrants on the labor pool. They found that with immigration, the 2024 U.S. job market could safely absorb between 160,000 and 200,000 monthly job gains.

CNN —Greek police are still searching for a US citizen who went missing on the Greek island of Amorgos, as well as two French women on the island of Sikinos in the Cyclades, a police spokeswoman told CNN on Monday. Albert Calibet, a 59-year-old American, has been missing since June 11, Petros Vasilakis, head of the Southern Aegean Police press office, told CNN. The two French nationals, aged 64 and 73 years old, went missing during a walk on the island of Sikinos, Vasilakis said. Vasilakis told CNN one of the women sent a message of distress to the guest house where she was staying. The man’s body will undergo a forensic examination later Monday to determine the cause of his death, police spokeswoman Konstantia Dimoglidou told CNN.

ATHENS, Greece AP —A missing American tourist has been found dead on a beach on a small Greek island west of Corfu, local media reported. He had been reported missing Thursday by his host, a Greek-American friend. Mathraki, which has a population of 100, is a 3.9-square-kilometer (1.2-square-mile) heavily wooded island, west of the better-known island of Corfu. On Friday, two French tourists were reported missing on Sikinos, a relatively secluded Cyclades island in the Aegean Sea, with less than 400 permanent residents. US media identified the missing tourist as retired Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff Albert Calibet of Hermosa Beach, California.

CNN —Dozens of passengers who boarded a Qatar Airways plane in Athens, Greece on Monday expected to be on their way to their destination – Doha, Qatar – relatively quickly. Instead, they found themselves trapped inside a grounded plane for more than three hours, according to passenger Garth Collins, who posted about his experience on Instagram. In a video posted by Collins, passengers can be seen standing up from their seats and in the aisles of the plane, fanning themselves and fellow passengers with paper. Zeiher told 7News that she received “zero information” from Qatar Airways, so she decided to rebook her onward flight to Australia through Emirates. According to flight tracking website Flightradar24, flight QR204 was supposed to leave Athens International Airport at 1:55 p.m. local time.

CNN —Two tourists, one from the United States and one from the Netherlands, have disappeared while hiking separately in Greece, authorities in the Mediterranean country have revealed. Popi Despotidi, Amorgos’ deputy mayor of tourism, told CNN on Thursday that Calibet has been coming “to Amorgos almost every year” for about a decade. US tourist Albert Calibet has been missing since Tuesday.
