Former “Saturday Night Live” star Chris Redd was punched in the face outside a famed New York City comedy club and hospitalized in what police described as an unprovoked attack. Redd, 37, had just exited a vehicle in front of the club when an unknown individual approached him and punched him, police said. Fabrizio Cavallacci, the owner of Cafe Reggio, which is next door to the comedy club and whose cameras recorded the attack, said there was a "huge pool of blood" on the ground. Comedy Cellar Owner Noam Dworman told NBC New York they are “deeply upset about what happened and we hope he’s okay. We want him back as soon as possible.”He called Redd a member of the club’s family.
An Arkansas motorcyclist was engulfed in a "fireball" and is recuperating in the hospital after a state trooper deployed a Taser and it hit a gallon of gasoline in his backpack, authorities said. Christopher Gaylor, 38, was struck by the Taser after setting Arkansas troopers on a police chase after him in the early hours of Oct. 13 in Little Rock, state police said in a news release. A trooper tried to initiate a traffic stop, but Gaylor “refused to comply” and kept on driving, reaching speeds approaching 100 mph and ignoring traffic stop signs and lights along the way, state police said. Arkansas State PoliceGaylor eventually made his way toward Interstate 30 and jumped from the motorcycle at a residence along Chandler Street in North Little Rock and fled on foot with troopers following behind. One trooper then deployed his Taser to stop Gaylor.
One person was killed and at least three others were injured after a Missouri bridge under construction collapsed and trapped four people in the debris. The bridge collapsed at 148th Street and Shady Grove Road outside Kearney, on Wednesday just before 2 p.m., the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Contractors were pouring concrete on its deck when the bridge collapsed, officials said. The collapse trapped four people, but three were able to “extricate themselves from the collapse,” the release stated. The bridge had been closed since 2016, and construction started late last May to create a new two-lane bridge set to open early next year, the sheriff's office said.

A "rogue nurse" in North Carolina has been arrested on murder charges after two patients died after he allegedly administered lethal doses of insulin, state officials announced Tuesday. Hayes allegedly administered a lethal dose of insulin to patient Gwen Crawford on Jan. 5, 2022. The second fatal patient was Vickie Lingerfelt, who was allegedly administered a lethal dose of insulin on Jan. 22, 2022. Hayes was further charged with administrating a near-fatal dose of insulin to a third patient on Dec. 1, 2021, but she survived the dose, according to the district attorney. The district attorney described him as a “rogue nurse,” said there was no evidence Hayes knew the patients before the incidents, and he acted alone.
Five people who were stranded about 21 stories underground at Grand Canyon Caverns following an elevator malfunction have been rescued, Arizona officials announced. The elevator malfunction was discovered at about sundown Sunday, and the group was unable to use a stairway system described to be similar to an old, external fire escape, Paxton said. Visitors come down a trail during a guided tour at the Grand Canyon Caverns in Arizona in 2016. “I’m sure, they made sure they were as comfortable as possible," Paxton said Tuesday. The natural limestone caverns, said to be the largest dry caverns in the U.S., occupy a desert region southwest of Grand Canyon National Park about 110 miles from the California border.
The suspect in the weekend shooting in a Dallas hospital hit his girlfriend in her labor and delivery room before opening fire and killing two employees, police have revealed. Dallas police on Monday shared a timeline of the Saturday shooting at Methodist Dallas Medical Center that killed two staffers, identified as Jacqueline Pokuaa, 45, and Katie Flowers, 63. The suspect, Nestor Hernandez, 30, was charged with capital murder in the shooting. When hospital employee Jaqueline Pokuaa, 45, entered the room to provide “routine services” to the patient, Hernandez shot her once. Rangel then fired one shot from his department weapon and hit Hernandez in the leg.
Adidas has cut ties with Ye, formerly known as Kanye West after facing pressure to end its partnership with the rapper in the wake of his antisemitic comments. “Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech,” the company said in a statement Tuesday. “Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and they violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness.”Adidas said the decision to terminate its partnership with Ye “immediately” came after a “thorough review.”The decision comes following mounting pressure from people online demanding the company end its relationship with the artist after an antisemitic hate group was accused of hanging a banner over a Los Angeles freeway Saturday that read “Kanye is right about the Jews.” The banner was condemned by a slew of local politicians, social media users and celebrities. Ethan Crumbley, the 16-year-old accused of gunning down four schoolmates last year in a Michigan suburb, pleaded guilty Monday to all charges against him. He was charged as an adult with the murders as well as wounding six other students and a teacher at Oxford High School on Nov. 30, 2021. His lawyers had previously filed an insanity plea but they dropped that filing to go forward with the guilty plea. The Oxford High School shooting drew national attention, not just for the killings — but for the prosecution of the Crumbley's parents, James and Jennifer Crumbley. NBC News has reached out to Crumbley's attorneys and the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office for comment.
Nearly half the student population of a Virginia high school was out of school Friday suffering flu-like or gastrointestinal symptoms, with an investigation into the source of the mystery outbreak underway, officials said. Approximately 1,000 students were absent Friday from Stafford High School in Fredericksburg, Virginia, with many reporting flu-like and gastrointestinal symptoms, Sandra Osborn, Chief communications officer for Stafford County Public Schools said. That's nearly half of the school's population of 2,100 students. Stafford High school is open Monday and “we are reassessing conditions this morning," Osborn said. Stafford High School canceled all school related activities and athletics over the weekend, “due to the high number of student and staff illnesses reported this week,” according to their Facebook page.
A Dallas, Texas, man has been arrested, accused of fatally shooting a 21-year-old woman after she beat him at a game of basketball, police and the victim's family say. Cameron Hogg, 31, was arrested Thursday and charged with murder in connection with the fatal Oct. 3 shooting of Asia Womack, 21, the Dallas Police Department announced. Womack’s aunt told NBC Dallas Fort-Worth that she was killed over a basketball game. A Princeton University student who vanished days ago has been found dead, authorities said Thursday. Since Sunday, the Princeton University DPS had been leading the investigation into her disappearance along with the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office. On Wednesday and Thursday, Princeton University students were told to expect an increased law enforcement presence on and around campus as the desperate search continued with the use of a helicopter, drones and watercraft. They said they worked with her at Minds Matter Cleveland, a nonprofit that offers academic and mentoring resources for high-performing, low-income high school students. Slife added the sociology major “interned for Bank of America and worked for McKinsey.”Ewunetie's high school, Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School in Cleveland, said she was a 2020 honors graduate.
A Nevada boy has died after he was infected with a rare brain-eating amoeba that he may have been exposed to at Lake Mead, state health officials announced Wednesday. The boy, described as a Clark county resident under the age of 18, died from Naegleria fowleri, the Southern Nevada Health District said in a news release. CDCThe CDC notified the Health District that Naegleria fowleri was confirmed as the cause of the patient’s illness. The amoeba infects people by “entering the body through the nose and traveling to the brain,” the Southern Nevada Health District said. “My condolences go out to the family of this young man,” District Health Officer Dr. Fermin Leguen said in a statement.
A search is underway for a missing Princeton University student last seen early Friday. Misrach Ewunetie, a 20-year-old undergraduate student, was last seen about 3 a.m. on Friday in the area of Scully Hall, according to an alert sent to the University community in New Jersey Monday. A police officer in Carrollton, Texas, about 20 miles north of Dallas, died Tuesday night after he was hit by a passing car while aiding another officer in a driving while intoxicated investigation. The Carrolton Police Department announced early Wednesday, “We lost a beloved officer in the line of duty overnight." The officer, who was not identified, was “backing up” another officer on a DWI investigation in the westbound lanes of the President George Bush Turnpike “when he was hit by a passing driver,” just before 10:30 p.m., police said. The driver of the passing vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer was transported to a hospital where he was also pronounced dead, police said.
A Florida father and his 15-year-old son were arrested on attempted murder charges after they shot at a woman who they mistakenly believed was trying to break into their home, officials said. The woman threw her car into reverse in an attempt to back out of the way, and crashed into a car behind her in the frantic escape. The teenage son heard the commotion and neared the car and thought “our victim is trying to back into him” and he opened fire, Judd said. Both Colonacosta and his son started shooting into the car as the woman sped away. The sheriff said neither Colonacosta or his son had criminal records until Saturday morning, adding, “our goal is for them to go to prison.

Two people were shot and others were injured when gunfire erupted during rapper Asian Doll’s performance at a homecoming concert at a North Carolina college over the weekend, officials said. An altercation during the concert escalated with gunfire at around 11 p.m. Saturday on the Livingstone College campus in Salisbury, police said. “During the altercation, a person, who is not a student of Livingstone College, fired one or more shots,” the Salisbury Police Department and Livingstone College said in a joint statement. The Salisbury Police Department and Livingstone College did not immediately respond to NBC News requests for comment. Livingstone College President Dr. Anthony J. Davis denounced the shooting as a "senseless act of violence."
A 20-year-old man was arrested in connection with a shooting Sunday near Virginia's James Madison University that injured eight people. Police announced Fleming's arrest at about 4:30 p.m., hours after the shooting in the 1500 block of Devon Lane, less than a mile from the university in Harrisonburg. Shots were fired around 2:20 a.m. into a crowd at an outdoor gathering near the university, police said. Five of the injured were treated at Sentara RMH Medical Center and three others were transported to University of Virginia Medical Center, authorities said. James Madison University Police Chief Anthony Matos said in a statement Sunday that the victims “are not students currently enrolled."

RALEIGH, N.C. — A North Carolina district attorney said Friday that she intends to charge the 15-year-old suspected in a mass shooting that killed five people in Raleigh as an adult. Freeman's announcement came as a neighborhood northeast of Raleigh was left reeling and families of those killed mourned their loss. Officials said the suspect was taken into custody after a “long standoff” with police and was in critical condition. CLAYTON, N.C. — One of the victims killed in a mass shooting in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Thursday night was set to be married in two weeks. Marshall, 35, was a beloved sister and aunt who was planning to marry her fiancé Rob on Oct. 29, her sister Meaghan McCrickard told NBC News on Friday. “Her fiancé Rob, he was just the love of her life,” McCrickard said. "She had called her fiancé Rob and said, 'I’m walking the dog, I’m hearing these gunshots, can you come home?' “She helped turn it into a much larger, multi-provider practice and she was the heart and soul of that office," McCrickard said.
Prosecutors in the high-profile Parkland school shooter trial have filed a motion to have law enforcement interview a juror who reported feeling threatened by a peer on the panel. The motion by the Broward County State Attorney's Office was filed Thursday evening. According to the motion, a juror referred to as “Juror X” called the state attorney’s office around 2 p.m. and requested to speak with Assistant State Attorney Michael Satz, the lead prosecutor in the trial. The motion requests that law enforcement, rather than the court, conduct the interview with Juror X. Ultimately the aggravating factors did not outweigh the mitigating factors, the jury found, and the shooter was sentenced to life.
A Washington D.C. deputy mayor, who headed City Hall's public safety efforts, resigned on Wednesday after he was accused of assault in Northern Virginia — an allegation which also raised questions about his residency. Christopher Geldart, now the former deputy mayor for public safety and justice, was charged with allegedly assaulting a personal trainer after they argued in a Gold's Gym parking lot in Arlington. Geldart declined comment on the alleged assault or the state of his residency, but said the resignation was necessary. “I no longer wanted to be a distraction to the vitally important work of the public safety agencies of the district government,” he said to NBC Washington. City administrator Kevin Donahue will act as interim deputy mayor.
A jury reached its decision Thursday in the penalty trial of Nikolas Cruz, who gunned down 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, in 2018. The trial was to decide whether to sentence him to life in prison or the death penalty. The decision by the 12-person jury was determined about three months after opening statements began July 18 and after the jury received deliberation instructions Wednesday. The jury has to reach a unanimous decision for the death sentence. The gunman, then 19, had stormed the high school on Valentine’s Day wielding an AR-15-style rifle and releasing a spray of bullets.
