MILAN, Oct 19 (Reuters) - The U.S. funds CalSTRS and New York City Comptroller said on Thursday they would vote in favour of the outgoing board's slate of nominees for the new Mediobanca board at the bank's annual meeting this month. Mediobanca's outgoing board has proposed 15 members, including a new term for current CEO Alberto Nagel and Chairman Renato Pagliaro ahead of the Oct. 28 meeting. The two funds did not disclose their stakes in Mediobanca. Proxy adviser Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS), Glass Lewis and Pensions & Investment Research Consultants (PIRC) said last week they were recommending Mediobanca investors vote in favour of the outgoing board's slate of nominees. CNN —There’s a difference between “long” and “epic,” although in movie terms the two frequently get confused. Martin Scorsese delivers the former but not the latter with “Killers of the Flower Moon,” his second consecutive three-and-a-half-hour movie derived from a true story and underwritten by a prestige-hungry streaming service. Notably, “Killers of the Flower Moon” will receive a wide big-screen launch that includes playing on hundreds of Imax screens. Either way, Scorsese has served up a movie that also plunges into a dark history and comes away with less bang for its bucks. “Killers of the Flower Moon” premieres October 20 in US theaters and will later play on Apple TV+.

There’s a scene in Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” when the screen fills with men toiling in what looks like a lake of fire. Inky silhouettes in a red-orange void, they look like Boschian imps, but these are ordinary men in a hell of human making. This may seem like strange territory for Scorsese, with his New York wiseguys and street corners. Throughout, Scorsese has also reminded you that there are many ways to tell stories, including about evil. Some were shot, others were blown up, while still others died from an enigmatic wasting illness, though were likely poisoned.

Based on the book by David Grann , “Flower Moon” is a drudge and a dirge that runs longer than “Titanic,” nearly 3 1/2 hours.

Reuters reported last week, citing five sources, that Venezuela and the United States had progressed in talks that could allow at least one additional foreign oil firm to take Venezuelan crude oil for debt repayment if Maduro resumed negotiations with the opposition. Two of those sources had named France's Maurel & Prom (MAUP.PA), a joint venture partner with Venezuela state-run oil company PDVSA, as a possible recipient of a comfort letter. It turns out the master artist was more experimental with his renowned “Mona Lisa” than previously thought — and was likely the creator of a technique seen in works created a century later, a new study suggests. By using X-ray diffraction and infrared spectroscopy, a team of scientists in France and Britain has detected a rare mineral compound within the iconic piece. The rare compound plumbonacrite was also found in "The Late Supper," as well as in several 17th-century works by Rembrandt. The “Mona Lisa,” like many other paintings from the 16th century, was created on a wood panel that required a thick base layer, Wallez said. The “Mona Lisa” and “The Last Supper” are two out of fewer than 20 known paintings Leonardo made in his lifetime.

MILAN, Oct 13 (Reuters) - Proxy adviser Glass Lewis said on Friday it was recommending that investors in Italian bank Mediobanca (MDBI.MI) vote in favour of the outgoing board's slate of nominees for the new board. The board is elected for a three-year term, and the current one expires on Oct. 28, when Mediobanca shareholders will vote on its renewal, including the chief executive. Mediobanca's outgoing board has proposed 15 members, including a new term for current CEO Alberto Nagel and Chairman Renato Pagliaro. On Wednesday, proxy adviser Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) said it was recommending that Mediobanca investors vote in favour of the outgoing board's slate of nominees. Michael Smith, a general partner at LA-headquartered Regeneration.VC, moved his family to Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in August. Smith set up Regeneration.VC in 2020 to back seed and Series A stage companies in what he dubbed "consumer climate technology." Danish logistics giant Maersk is adding SpaceX's Starlink to more than 330 container ships, the companies announced Thursday. Maersk said the installation of the Starlink internet service is expected to be complete by the first quarter of next year, with the satellite network set to provide internet speeds of over 200 Megabits per second. Starlink is the global communications network that Elon Musk's company has been building, with more than 5,000 satellites launched and counting. The company initially targeted consumer customers, and now says Starlink has upward of two million subscribers. It has expanded into other markets — including national security, enterprise, mobility, maritime and aviation — and disrupted the existing satellite communications sector.
