Los Angeles Associated Press —Mitzi Gaynor, the effervescent dancer and actor who starred as Nellie Forbush in the 1958 film of “South Pacific” and appeared in other musicals with Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly, has died. “Your love, support and appreciation meant so very much to her and was a sustaining gift in her life.”Mitzi Gaynor in 1959. Gaynor and Bean married in 1954 and in 1960 bought a spacious house in mid-Beverly Hills that became their home until his death in 2006.

DETROIT — General Motors has agreed to establish a joint venture with Lithium Americas Corp. that includes the automaker supplying $625 million in cash and credit to the Canadian mining business, the companies announced Wednesday. The deal is centered on the development, construction and operation of a lithium carbonate mining operation called Thacker Pass in Humboldt County, Nevada. Securing raw materials such as lithium from the U.S. is crucial to GM's plans to profitably grow its all-electric vehicle business to meet tightening federal requirements of the vehicles and the large batteries needed to power them. Rock guitarist Jake E. Lee was struck multiple times early Thursday in a Las Vegas street shooting, his management said in a statement. Officers responded to the shooting around 2:45 a.m. and found Lee with gunshot wounds, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement. His management said Lee is "fully conscious and doing well" in an intensive care unit and is expected to fully recover. Lee's management said Las Vegas authorities believe the street shooting was "completely random" and took place when Lee was walking his dog early Thursday. Abu Dhabi is set to become the next location to showcase multimedia entertainment in the unique spherical structure, the Sphere Entertainment Co. and Abu Dhabi tourism officials announced on Tuesday. The planned venue aligns with the capital of the United Arab Emirates’ Tourism Strategy 2030 aimed at “further establishing Abu Dhabi as a vibrant hub for culture and innovation,” said H.E. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi, in a news release. The partnership for the second installment, between Abu Dhabi tourism officials and Sphere Entertainment, is “subject to finalization of definitive agreements,” the news release said.
