☆ Origins of humanity’s love of carbs revealed, new study suggests

CNN —The origin of modern humans’ long-standing love affair with carbs may predate our existence as a species, according to a new study. The study revealed these genes duplicated long before the advent of agriculture. Without amylase, humans would not be able to digest foods such as potatoes, pasta, rice or bread. The research also revealed duplication of the AMY1 gene existed in the genomes of Neanderthals and Denisovans, an extinct hominin first discovered in 2010 about whom relatively little is known. “This study’s genomic sleuthing is helping to finally time stamp some of those major milestones, and it is revealing tantalizing clues about humanity’s long love affair with starch.”

A police officer risked his life to carry out the daring rescue of a man suffering a "mental health crisis" from train tracks, seconds before a train rushed past. Seconds later the man slips and falls 25 feet onto the tracks, sustaining serious injuries. Two officers then go onto the tracks, as an oncoming train sounds its horn, pulling him to safety just as it passes. "Policemen on the lower platform ran across the tracks to rescue the man while a train approached them at high speeds. It is the latest and most advanced iteration of two-decades of robot development from Engineered Arts, a humanoid manufacturer based in Cornwall, England. It has cameras in each of the eyes to allow Ameca to "see" the world around it. The robot cannot yet walk, but Engineered Arts is working on technology to allow Ameca to do so.
