"The Man with 1000 Kids" docuseries spotlights Jonathan Jacob Meijer, a man from The Netherlands who has admitted to having 550 children around the world. In 2023, he was banned from donating sperm to new families. He was open with her about being a sperm donor and claimed that he had fathered over 70 children. This large increase in fertility has allowed me to help get many women pregnant; my years of being a sperm donor attribute to this success.

LONDON — Soft drinks maker Britvic has agreed to a sweetened takeover bid of £3.28 billion ($4.2 billion) from Carlsberg, the companies said Monday. The deal agreed offered 1,290 pence per share for Britvic, with a small dividend that gives shareholders 1,315 pence per share. Britvic in June refused an improved cash takeover bid from Carlsberg offering 1,250 pence per share of the British soft drinks maker. Carlsberg's previous June 6 offer price of 1,200 pence per Britvic share was also declined. PepsiCo is key to the deal, as Britvic bottles and distributes PepsiCo brands in the U.K. and Ireland.

Tax-free shopping for tourists has been axed, and EU visitors now need a passport to visit, which most don’t have. Matt Cardy/Getty ImagesAs a result of Brexit, in 2021 the UK government abolished tax-free shopping for non-EU citizens. It means the UK is now the only European country not offering tax-free shopping to visitors from outside the continent. “The impact of losing tax-free shopping is clear to see,” says Dee Corsi, chief executive of the NWEC. “Whilst the likes of Italy and France are actively leveraging tax-free shopping as a driver of growth, British businesses continue to trade at a disadvantage.

London CNN —The Labour Party has won a landslide victory in the UK general election, sweeping into power after 14 years of Conservative rule on the back of a wave of public disillusionment. Addressing the nation from outside 10 Downing Street for the first time as prime minister, Starmer had one overarching message: Change starts now. There were high-profile casualties, with the short-lived former Prime Minister Liz Truss and several cabinet ministers being booted out by voters. Conservative leader and, as of Friday morning, former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak took responsibility for the electoral wipeout, apologizing to voters in his farewell address. Leaving the palace as the newly minted prime minister, he then headed straight to Downing Street.

Bloomberg | Bloomberg | Getty ImagesLONDON — The U.K. heads to the ballot box on Thursday, as the incumbent Conservative Party seeks to defy months of polls that suggest it will suffer a historic defeat at the hands of the center-left Labour Party. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced the vote six weeks ago, taking politicians and the public alike by surprise. The Thursday ballot is the first U.K. general election since 2019, when then-Conservative leader Boris Johnson clinched the party's biggest majority win since 1987 over Jeremy Corbyn's Labour. It could be a disastrous night for the Conservatives, with the exit poll predicting the lowest-ever total number of seats in the party’s history. Because of its electoral system, Britain can see large discrepancies between the share of seats won by a party and its share of the popular vote. The exit poll suggests one of the largest swings in British political history, with Labour expected to win 410 seats and the Conservatives on 131. Britain’s traditional third party, the Liberal Democrats, also enjoyed a huge bump, going from just 11 seats won at the 2019 general election to a projected 61. Reform UK, a right-wing populist party, was projected to win 13 seats, also a lot more than many polls had suggested.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer talks at a campaign event on June 29, 2024 in London, England. LONDON — The U.K.'s opposition Labour Party is on course to win a commanding parliamentary majority in the country's general election, unseating the incumbent Conservatives after 14 years, according to exit polls released after voting closed. Millions of people across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland voted for their local representatives in the 650-member House of Commons, the U.K.'s lower house of parliament. A nationwide result will likely be declared early Friday, with Keir Starmer, leader of center-left Labour, expected to become the country's next prime minster. Political surveys have for nearly two years pointed to a large Labour victory.

AI systems need lots of computers to make them work. The end result has been that Google’s greenhouse gas emissions have soared 48% since 2019, according to the tech giant’s annual environment report. An October study from Dutch researcher Alex de Vries estimated that the “worst-case scenario” suggests Google’s AI systems could eventually consume as much electricity as the country of Ireland each year, assuming a full-scale adoption of AI in their current hardware and software. It added that data center electricity consumption is currently growing faster than it can bring carbon-free electricity sources online. The company has also used AI to suggest more fuel-efficient routes to drivers using Google Maps.

CNN —The former leader of Northern Ireland’s most prominent pro-union party, Jeffrey Donaldson, will stand trial over allegations of historical sex offenses including one charge of rape. Eleanor Donaldson, center, is also set to stand trial in September. NYSEIn 2018, British regulators sanctioned the UK arm of online gambling giant Flutter after it failed to catch an astonishing anomaly. The United States is Flutter's largest and fastest-growing market in terms of revenue. Both online sports betting and online casinos have been legal and regulated far longer in Britain than in the United States. But in the United States, Flutter doesn't place such limits on the age group. Around a decade ago, British politicians became concerned about a rise in gambling-linked fraud and suicides involving online VIP customers.

How Britain’s political parties got their colors
  + stars: | 2024-07-01 | by ( Oscar Holland | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +6 min
While these are the only two parties with a realistic chance of winning the election, other smaller parties across the British political system offer a veritable kaleidoscope of differing — and sometimes duplicate — colours. The Liberal Democrats (orange), and Reform UK (turquoise) and the Green Party (you guessed it), are all vying for votes. Labour Party leader Keir Starmer during the launching of Labour Party election manifesto, in Manchester, on June 13, 2024. Among the smaller parties, color choices have sometimes been relatively straightforward – the Green Party uses green, unsurprisingly, due to its obvious connections with environmentalism.
