Fighting back tears, parents of slain University of Idaho students shared moments of laughter and sorrow Wednesday as students and faculty members gathered for a vigil for the four lives lost. We’re going to figure this stuff out,” Steven Goncalves, Kaylee’s father, said at the ceremony at the university in Moscow, Idaho. The unsolved killings have put some students at the university, in a city of around 25,000, and the community on edge. "That’s the only thing that’s going to heal us. The Senate voted to impose a tentative agreement and avert an economy-rattling rail strike. Rail workers told Insider that the votes were "despicable" and "shameful." The House had voted to pass both the legislation enacting the tentative agreement and the addition of seven sick days. "I'm proud that the House of Representatives passed legislation to guarantee seven days of paid sick leave for all rail workers. Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and Lindsey Graham — joined 46 Democrats in voting for the paid sick day provision.
US rail workers are preparing to strike over their latest negotiations with management. Three years of rail workers' negotiations with management over this issue could soon culminate in an economy-disrupting strike, after the latest tentative agreement included just one paid personal day off a year. That's too far from the 15 days of paid sick leave that rail workers pushed for, and which railroads argue would cost them $688 million a year. While praise for essential workers has faded, rail workers still hold a lot of power in the economy. "The stockholders would go absolutely crazy if we were able to strike for one day."
Rail workers were threatening to strike over lack of paid leave, potentially devastating the economy. "But if Congress is forced to do it,I will not vote to impose a deal that doesn't have the support of the rail workers." Congress is able to vote to step in and impose a deal for rail workers, overruling the normal bargaining process. Workers wanted 15 paid sick days, according to Reuters, but railroad companies agreed to just one paid personal day in the tentative agreement. Michael Paul Lindsey, a locomotive engineer in Idaho and steering committee member for Railroad Workers United, told Insider it was a "blatant betrayal," but he wasn't surprised.

"The identity of the 911 caller and the contents of the call have not been released," Fry said Sunday.

At least 4.4 million people have received an updated Covid booster since the start of the month, according to data released Thursday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC signed off on updated versions of Pfizer’s and Moderna’s booster shots on Sept. 1, and pharmacies and other vaccination sites began administering the new shots around Labor Day weekend. As of Tuesday, the U.S. had shipped more than 25 million bivalent booster doses to tens of thousands of sites. Some pharmacies reported shortages of Moderna's updated booster earlier this week. Biden administration officials have pointed to the updated boosters, however, as a critical step to pushing the U.S. out of the pandemic.
Viral claims that the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (DHW) is purchasing “porn literacy” materials and including them in their curriculum for students are untrue. On Sept. 13, the IFF published an article titled “Idaho’s government offers “porn literacy,” other corrupting practices to k-12 students,” (here). (The article’s first paragraph uses different wording to the headline, saying the DHW purchases “materials and training” from ETR “an interest group promoting porn literacy” – not that Idaho’s DHW offers porn literacy). The descriptions of the courses and table of contents make no mention of pornography or “porn literacy.” Stahl told Reuters the agency never considered the use of any “porn literacy” materials. Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (DHW) has not purchased “porn literacy” materials and included them in sex-ed curricula for students.

— Just hours after a Montana judge blocked health officials from enforcing a state rule that would prevent transgender people from changing the gender on their birth certificate, the Republican-run state on Thursday said it would defy the order. District Court Judge Michael Moses chided attorneys for the state during a hearing in Billings for circumventing his April order that temporarily blocked a 2021 Montana law that made it harder to change birth certificates. Moses said there was no question that state officials violated his earlier order by creating the new rule. ACLU attorney Malita Picasso expressed dismay with the agency’s stance and said officials should immediately start processing requests for birth certificate changes. State officials denied that the new rule preventing birth certificate changes was adopted in bad faith.
