Simpson, the former NFL star who was acquitted of murdering his ex-wife in a televised trial that gripped the nation, has died of cancer at age 76, according to a statement from his family. Reports circulated in February that Simpson had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and was in hospice care as he underwent chemotherapy. Simpson denied that he was in hospice in a video posted to X, but did not address whether he or not he'd been diagnosed with cancer. When Los Angeles Police officers went to Simpson's home to speak to him about the murders, Simpson did not answer the door but officers noticed blood on the door of his vehicle. Once a revered athlete, Simpson went from a Hall of Fame icon to a murder suspect.

New York CNN —For the first time in its 42-year history, the women’s NCAA basketball final outrated the men’s. On Monday, the University of Connecticut’s victory over Purdue in the men’s final drew 14.8 million viewers, Nielsen said. That was up a smidge from the 14.7 million who watched last year’s men’s championship game, but fell 4 million viewers short of the women’s final. To put the women’s championship game viewership in perspective, it outrated every 2023 World Series game and every NBA finals game from last year, according to Nielsen. Oh, yeah, and in the men’s college basketball final Monday, UConn won its second-straight championship, beating the Boilermakers, who were in their first final since 1969.

That said, assuming Ohtani has done nothing wrong, America’s pastime will emerge from this situation mostly unscathed. LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Louisville has reached an agreement with College of Charleston coach Pat Kelsey to become the Cardinals’ next men’s basketball coach, a person with direct knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press. Kenny Payne, a first-time head coach, was fired by Louisville on March 13 after going 12-52 the last two seasons at his alma mater. It marked the worst two-year stretch in the storied program's history and capped its third consecutive losing season after missing the NCAA Tournament in 2021. But unlike Payne, Kelsey brings experience and a record of coaching success at Charleston and Winthrop. Kelsey previously worked as a Wake Forest assistant and Xavier associate head coach.

The popular grocery store chain recently raised the price of its individually-sold bananas by roughly 20%, to 23 cents from 19 cents. Trader Joe's bananas have cost 19 cents apiece since the chain first started selling them individually back in 2001. The never-changing price tag became a selling point for the fruit, with signage at some Trader Joe's locations boasting about the store's refusal to increase the cost of potassium-rich produce. CNN —Toby Keith will receive a posthumous honor. The late country music star, who died in February at age 62 from complications of stomach cancer, will be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. “Election to the Country Music Hall of Fame is country music’s highest honor, and new members are elected annually by an anonymous panel of industry leaders chosen by the Country Music Association (CMA),” according to a press release about the announcement. The legendary country singer went public with his stomach cancer diagnosis in 2022, which he had been dealing with since October 2021. The new members-elect will be inducted during this year’s Country Music Hall of Fame Medallion Ceremony on October 20.

In an update about the health of their father, which was posted by Kenzie to the 59-year-old’s Facebook and Instagram accounts, the former UFC heavyweight champion can be seen sitting up in bed and talking. CNN —Former UFC star Mark Coleman is “battling for his life” after saving his parents from a house fire in Ohio on Tuesday, his daughter said on Instagram. Morgan Coleman wrote that her father went back and forth into the house and was able to carry both of his parents from the fire and save their lives, before attempting to rescue a dog, Hammer, from the blaze. CNN has reached out to the Toledo Police, Fire Department and Coleman’s manager for comment for more details about the house fire and the former UFC fighter’s condition.
