Russian media has reported that the new T-14 tank has seen combat in Ukraine. But Ukraine's military intel chief says Ukrainian forces haven't seen any T-14s in action. It's possible the T-14 has been used, but the war has tarnished the reputation of Russian tanks. "We haven't seen a single instance of this machine being used," Lt. Gen. Kyrylo Budanov, chief of Ukrainian defense intelligence, said in response to a question about the T-14 during a recent conference in Kyiv. Not only is the T-14 expensive, but Russian defense industry publications have reported development and manufacturing problems with it.

Ukraine's attack on the Sevastopol shipyard last week left a Russian submarine in rough shape. New photos leaked to social media indicate the submarine may be beyond repair, a naval expert says. The attack damaged two vessels, including the Kilo-class attack submarine Rostov-on-Don, and was the latest in a string of assaults on the peninsula, which Kyiv has vowed to liberate from Moscow. It also published satellite imagery showing the damaged Sevastopol shipyard, with a zoomed-in view of the submarine. Britain's defense ministry cited open-source evidence in suggesting that the Minsk had "almost certainly been functionally destroyed."

Like most lobstermen, the Maine House Republican leader scrambled to complete his work ahead of the remnants of Hurricane Lee. Rep. Billy Bob Faulkingham was rushing home from sea when a giant wave rose up, seemingly from nowhere, and towered over his boat. Suffering a black eye, facial fracture and stitched lip, Faulkingham counted Polk and himself lucky to be alive Monday. In the meantime, the Coast Guard, responding to the beacon, alerted Faulkingham's wife at 12:20 p.m. and the search was on. He hauled them onto his lobster boat and rush to shore, where an ambulance took them to the hospital.

In U.S.-China AI contest, the race is on to deploy killer robots

In this high-tech contest, seizing the upper hand across fields including AI and autonomous weapons, like Ghost Shark, could determine who comes out on top. This could become critical if the United States intervened against an assault by Beijing on Taiwan. The attacks left their inflatable boat partly sunken – prompting them to issue a distress call to nearby vessels in the early hours of Wednesday. Shark attacks damaged the catamaran's inflatable hull, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority said. Unlike great whites or hammerheads, cookiecutter sharks are not usually associated with attacks in the open ocean. Cookiecutter sharks have only been involved in four confirmed, unprovoked bites, which all happened in Hawaii, it said, citing the International Shark Attack File. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) said in a statement Wednesday that “a large section” of the inflatable vessel’s hull was missing when it was found.

Weight loss drugs are being assessed for their ability to treat conditions like dementia and addiction after a landmark study showed that Wegovy helped reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Late-stage trial data released last month by Novo Nordisk indicated that its Wegovy weight loss injection led to "large reductions" in heart failure-related symptoms among at-risk patients. A treatment for drug and alcohol abuseHendershot is one researcher investigating whether the appetite-regulating mechanisms at play in weight loss drugs could be used to treat other conditions such as alcohol and drug addiction. Novo Nordisk's Wegovy and Eli Lilly 's Mounjaro work by imitating a naturally occurring gut hormone that helps regulate appetite in the brain, ultimately leading to weight loss. CNN —The US government has filed a motion to stop a Titanic expedition planned for 2024, citing a law that protects and preserves the shipwreck as a gravesite. The expedition has been organized by RMS Titanic Inc., a company that owns the exclusive salvage rights to the remains of the Titanic. RMS Titanic Inc. had said they wanted to recover the ship’s radio – a request that was granted in May 2020 by a US district judge. RMS Titanic Inc. said in a periodic report filed this June that the company is planning for a 2024 expedition but does “not intend to seek a permit,” according to the motion filed by the US government.
