As a gay man, Dunn says he was shocked to connect deeply with so many straight male coworkers. AdvertisementLittle did I know I was about to find a new brotherhood among a different group at work: straight men who were also getting divorced. Related storiesIn a matter of weeks, it was straight men — my coworkers — who became my greatest supporters, advisors, and most unlikely allies. And that's how I was introduced to an unofficial club — the straight guys' divorce club. AdvertisementThis is, in my opinion, one of the most offensive things you can ask a gay man.

Leftover debris from Hurricane Helene could make incoming Hurricane Milton even more dangerous. Milton is expected to make landfall in Florida on Wednesday, the second major storm in two weeks. The region has been scrambling to pick up as much debris as possible before it's too late. AdvertisementLess than two weeks after Hurricane Helene devastated parts of Florida, another major storm is bearing down on the region — and there's a scramble to clean up before it gets there. That creates a compounding effect that makes everything more expensive — and more dangerous, Schlegelmilch said.

Don't drink so much that you can't properly drive a golf cart or respect staff members. AdvertisementNot long ago, I started working as a "cart girl" at my local golf course. This was my second summer working at the course, and golf balls had never come close to hitting me before. Unfortunately, I regularly dealt with golfers making uncomfortable comments about my body or trying to touch me. Also, if you're too drunk to treat employees with respect, you're also probably too inebriated to check your surroundings and safely drive your golf cart.

Washington CNN —Republicans are fighting a war against misinformation to keep their constituents safe as they brace for Hurricane Milton to make landfall in Florida, including being willing to point the finger at members of their own party — and their presidential nominee. Greene has stood by her comments, posting a meme and link to a Gateway Pundit article she says backs up her claims. “Former President Trump told us that the people in Springfield are eating dogs and cats, alright? He likewise said that FEMA money, our emergency money, instead of helping the people that are being hit by the hurricane is being used to help illegals,” he said at an event in Utah earlier this week. Ron DeSantis, a Republican who challenged Trump in this cycle’s Republican presidential primary, also warned residents in the path of a hurricane to ignore online misinformation.

My husband and I were high school sweethearts but we married when we were 25. We took a $15,000 loan for our wedding that took us five years to pay. Finances have been a struggleDon't get me wrong — since we took that loan out, finances have been a struggle for us. But we paid off that wedding loan (yes, it took the whole five years), and we learned that no matter what kind of bind we get into, we will find our way out of it. Still, though, I wouldn't recommend taking out a loan for your wedding if you can avoid it.

A divide exists about reaching financial goals between confident and uncertain savers. Inflation and market volatility are major obstacles to achieving retirement savings goals. AdvertisementThere's a divide in America between the savers and investors who feel confident they're on track to achieve their financial goals and those who think they're not. Respondents cited inflation as the biggest obstacle to reaching retirement goals, followed by stock-market volatility, expenses, credit card debt, and child education. For example, if you're 35 with an income of $100,000, you should have between $100,000 to $200,000 set aside for retirement.

Parris Goebel Is Changing the Way Women Move Her surreal, muscular dances for Rihanna, SZA and other pop stars have made her one of the world’s most in-demand choreographers. As the music gathered momentum, the camera raced through the crowd of scowling dancers until, finally, Rihanna appeared. The choreographer behind this viral performance, 32-year-old Parris Goebel, has established herself as one of the music industry’s most innovative and in-demand artists. There’s something cathartic about watching a group of (mostly) women snarling in lock step, an image of power and indomitability. Rihanna’s representative confirmed that Rihanna and Goebel were shooting something at the palace, though the project is still under wraps.

French Prime Minister Michel Barnier (C) ahead of his general policy statement to the French National Assembly in Paris on October 1, 2024. The budget is being widely previewed as an "austerity" budget that will see the government of new Prime Minister Michel Barnier present tax-hiking and cost-cutting measures that could rile opposition parties on both the left and right, and even the centrists that put him in power. In sum, Barnier's government is a fragile one and vulnerable to predatory challenges from the left and right of the political spectrum. But such a large dose of austerity may make even 1.1% growth difficult to achieve," he said in emailed analysis. "Finally, even if the budget is passed and does not dent economic growth too much, France's fiscal position would still be precarious.

Harris advisers often publicly dismiss the polls, acknowledging that the race is close and will remain so leading up to Election Day. Others want to focus on mobilizing men and men of color to turn out – a demographic that remains a point of concern among Harris campaign officials. And I am running like the underdog because I am the underdog in this race,” Harris told donors at a fundraiser in late September. “When Black voters are getting inundated by anti-Harris mail, anti-Harris ads, the face-to-face conversations matter even more,” the operative said. ESPN replaced retired NBA reporter Adrian Wojnarowski with Shams Charania. AdvertisementAs many basketball fans have likely heard, the latest major NBA signing is Shams Charania to ESPN. "It felt like it was a perfect way to solve this problem," said Burke Magnus, ESPN's head of content, in an interview with Business Insider on Wednesday. Wild swings in mortgage rates discouraged almost everyone from venturing out into the market. As I wrote earlier this year, a gummed-up housing market — the Ice Age I was talking about — is good for nobody. When mortgage rates hit multidecade lows during the pandemic, millions of people were able to snag or refinance their way into cheaper monthly costs. That'd be within spitting distance of what the experts at John Burns Research and Consulting, a housing-research firm, call the "magic mortgage rate." In other words, trying to predict mortgage rates — and buying or selling a home accordingly — is a fool's errand.

It was less a comment on my sister's personal financial situation and more reflective of the fact that having kids isn't just expensive. CNBC's Jim Cramer said Wednesday that as earnings season begins, it's wise to keep in mind that sometimes bad news is baked into a stock's price before the report. Cramer pointed to Wall Street's reaction to PepsiCo in the lead-up to, and wake of, its Tuesday report. He noted how shares dipped but managed to recover even though the company posted a revenue miss. While the snack and beverage maker did miss on revenue, it managed to beat earnings expectations. The company lowered its full-year outlook for organic revenue, citing weak demand in North America as shoppers buy fewer snacks.

Jeremy Strong recently told the Los Angeles Times that “it’s absolutely valid” to criticize straight actors for playing gay characters, although he also strongly believes that it’s an actor’s job “to render something that is not necessarily your native habitat.” Strong stars as Donald Trump’s mentor Roy Cohn in “The Apprentice.”“Yes, it’s absolutely valid,” Strong said about the criticism. The debate over whether or not straight actors should play gay roles has been a consistent one in Hollywood over the last few years. “I felt a sense of uncertainty sometimes about whether I’m taking up someone’s space, and perhaps guilt. “An actor is an actor is an actor. That’s the whole point of it.”Read Strong’s full interview with the Los Angeles Times here.

Viewers tuning into NFL and college football games in recent weeks have been bombarded with two Trump ads — running nationally and locally in swing states — that take issue with Vice President Kamala Harris’ past support for taxpayer-funded gender-affirming treatments. “So we’ll talk about it for them.”The Harris campaign declined to comment on the record. The two trans ads are Trump’s two most-seen commercials during professional and college football games, according to AdImpact, a firm that tracks political commercials and ad spending. Trump campaign officials say the ads will make it harder for Harris to make up ground with men, where polls show her trailing Trump. A Trump campaign official said the campaign's internal polling showed the ad was resonating with Black men — a demographic the campaign is courting.
