And that brings me to the second missing ingredient in the briefs supporting Rahimi: the Second Amendment itself. That is not surprising, the Cato brief notes, because when Section 922(g)(8) was enacted, there was no recognized right to individual gun ownership in the first place. to be deprived through such minimal process.”Other briefs in support of Mr. Rahimi take issue with the nature of protective orders themselves. When I first read Judge Ho’s opinion, I regarded it as an odd digression from the matter at hand, namely how to interpret and apply the Second Amendment. Does even this trigger-happy Supreme Court want to be seen as stripping from women in mortal danger from their intimate partners whatever safety this 29-year-old law has provided?

CNN —Zackey Rahimi, the Texas criminal defendant challenging a federal gun law before the Supreme Court on Tuesday, said this summer that he no longer wanted to own firearms and expressed remorse for his actions that got him in trouble with the law. Rahimi, a drug dealer, was issued a restraining order in 2020 after a violent altercation with his girlfriend in Arlington, Texas. A federal grand jury indicted him, and Rahimi moved to dismiss the indictment, arguing that the law was unconstitutional. He lost his court effort, but then the Supreme Court issued the landmark Second Amendment decision. The Supreme Court will now hear the government’s appeal Tuesday.

Evangelical Christian conservatives have long had allies in top Republican leadership in Congress. F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby” requires no critical endorsement. His slim 1925 novel still takes up permanent residence in the book bags of students across the nation. “The Great Gatsby,” now playing at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, N.J., replicates its literary prototype. WARSAW, Oct 24 (Reuters) - A Polish bishop, whose diocese was reportedly the scene of a sex party organised by priests at which Polish media say a male prostitute collapsed after taking erectile dysfunction pills, has resigned, the Vatican said on Tuesday. The statement did not give a reason for the resignation of Bishop Grzegorz Kaszak, saying only that the pope had accepted it. According to Polish media reports, a male prostitute collapsed at the party after taking too many erectile dysfunction pills. The priest who hosted the party in his apartment, named as Tomasz Z, was eventually dismissed, according to the state-run news agency PAP. The diocese said his behaviour was "a cause of great scandal for the faithful and justified indignation of public opinion", PAP reported.

Today's higher interest rate environment drives home the reason why investors should scrutinize stocks offering tempting double-digit yields. Digging beneath the surface Multiple factors may contribute to a stock touting high dividend yields at first blush. First, there are dividend sustainers – companies that have made steady payments for years, including Merck , Johnson & Johnson and Southern Co . Investors who want to hunt dividend payers shouldn't go for the biggest yielders, but instead look for names that are in the second or third quintile among dividend payers, he said. "For many investors, you can get a pretty good dividend play and a good yield through ETFs at a low cost," said Ebersole.

The latest batch of economic data from China surprised by beating forecasts, but was unfortunately overshadowed by fears of a widening conflict in the Middle East following the Gaza hospital blast. Perhaps more importantly retail sales and industrial output for September topped estimates, which might mean Beijing's stimulus steps were finally bearing fruit after months of disappointment. The implications for inflation were another headache for bonds, which were still smarting from Tuesday's red-hot U.S. retail sales report. JPMorgan responded by ramping up its forecast for U.S. third quarter GDP growth to an annualised 4.3%, implying nominal growth of more than 7%.

NEW YORK (AP) — Nobel laureate Louise Glück, a poet of unblinking candor and perception who wove classical allusions, philosophical reveries, bittersweet memories and humorous asides into indelible portraits of a fallen and heartrending world, has died at 80. In awarding her the literature prize in 2020, the first time an American poet had been honored since T.S. “The advantage of poetry over life is that poetry, if it is sharp enough, may last,” she once wrote.
