Ukrainian Presidential Press Service/Handout via REUTERS Acquire Licensing RightsKYIV, Oct 1 (Reuters) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said in a speech released on Sunday that nothing would weaken his country's fight against Russia, a day after the U.S. Congress passed a stopgap funding bill that omitted aid to Ukraine. "In so doing, the Dutch government stands in flagrant violation of the U.S.-EU Air Transport Agreement," JetBlue said in its complaint. The move essentially closed Schiphol to new entrants, JetBlue said. New entrants such as JetBlue are facing a completely closed market and 100% expulsion from the market," the company said. Airlines that use Schiphol including Air France-KLM (AIRF.PA) have sued to try to prevent the cap at one of Europe's busiest airports.

Stocks broadly got a boost after yields in the Treasury market eased further off their highest levels in more than a decade. Yields fell after a report showed the measure of inflation that the Federal Reserve prefers to use was a smidgen cooler last month than economists expected. It charged this week to its highest level since 2007, up from 3.50% in May and just 0.50% in 2020. The latest monthly update on the U.S. jobs market is due next week, with a couple of important reports on inflation coming the following week. Big Tech stocks were helping to lead the market, as they're seen as some of the biggest beneficiaries from easier yields in the bond market.

India, which is the world's third biggest oil importer, has become the top buyer of seaborne Russian oil, mainly Urals, since 2022 after Western sanctions against Moscow. Alternatives are much more expensive and not easily available," a trader familiar with the Russian oil market said. Russian Urals oil typically gives higher yields of diesel, which accounts for about two-fifths of India's overall refined fuel consumption. The Western price cap on Russian oil allows buyers to use Western services such as shipping and insurance in the event that crude trades below $60 per barrel. Russian oil is also now being sold to customers in new markets like Brazil, the Indian source said.

"In our region, we lost 15% of the (sugar beet) area (this year)," said Alexandre Pele, who has a 240 hectare farm in central France. Since January's court ruling banning exemptions, the area devoted to growing sugar beet in France, the EU's largest sugar grower, has hit a 14 year low. The EU beet acreage has already fallen 17% percent since the 2018 neonics ruling, EU data shows. A shrinking sugar beet sector could hit other staple crops because farmers need to plant alternates like sugar beet or oilseeds on their wheat, barley and corn fields every other year in order to maintain soil health. "If I no longer have sugar beet it would be a real loss."

“Most of the time, I’m halfway content.”Those words are Bob Dylan’s, and they were delivered one night last week by Brooke Shields during her sold-out debut show at the Café Carlyle, the intimate Manhattan supper club where Bobby Short, Elaine Stritch and Debbie Harry have performed. It was five months after Ms. Shields had returned to the spotlight with “Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields,” an acclaimed documentary that chronicled the ups and downs of a career that got its start in the 1970s, when she was a child model and actress marketed as a sex symbol. A number of celebrities came out to see her at the venue, which is blocks away from the Upper East Side apartment where she grew up. At a table close to the stage were the actors Naomi Watts, Billy Crudup and Laura Dern. Nearby sat Mariska Hargitay, whom Ms. Shields has worked with on “Law & Order: SVU.” The crowd also included two men who had done cabaret at the Carlyle: Isaac Mizrahi, who designed the loosefitting orange dress Ms. Shields was wearing, and Alan Cumming.

KYIV, Sept 17 (Reuters) - Ukrainian media outlets quoted intelligence sources as saying explosions reported in the Crimean city of Sevastopol on Sunday were due to a joint operation by its forces but a Moscow-installed official said Russia's enemies were trying to claim false victory. Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Moscow-installed governor of Sevastopol, home to Russian's Black Sea Fleet, said on Telegram that everything was calm in his city, the largest in Crimea. He also said no damage was done when Russian air defences brought down three Ukrainian drones in the area on Sunday. Reuters could not independently verify accounts of events on the peninsula, including explosions reported in Sevastopol by Telegram accounts which Ukrainian media quoted intelligence sources as saying were due to a joint operation by Ukraine's GUR military intelligence and the country's Navy. "The planned work of the GUR and Navy continues," the Ukrainska Pravda news site quoted an unnamed intelligence source as saying.

European regulators hit social media platform TikTok with a $368 million fine for lapses in children's privacy. It's the first time the video-sharing app has been penalized under Europe's data privacy rules. An investigation found significant lapses in the protection of children's privacy, it said. This isn't the first time that TikTok has been fined over data protection concerns. Data privacy regulators in the UK issued a £12.7 million ($15.7 million) fine to TikTok in April for mishandling children's data and breaching protections for young users' personal information, AP reported.

LONDON (AP) — European regulators slapped TikTok with a $368 million fine on Friday for failing to protect children's privacy, the first time that the popular short video-sharing app has been punished for breaching Europe's strict data privacy rules. And it nudged teen users into more “privacy intrusive” options when signing up and posting videos, the watchdog said. The Irish regulator has been criticized for not moving fast enough in its investigations into Big Tech companies since EU privacy laws took effect in 2018. For TikTok, German and Italian regulators disagreed with parts of a draft decision issued a year ago, delaying it further. Instagram, WhatsApp and their owner Meta are among other tech giants that have been hit with big fines by the Irish regulator over the past year.

Under the plans, tuition and other education expenses are typically spread out into several payments over a semester or academic year. Most college payment plans are interest-free, but there can be enrollment fees and other charges involved, the CFPB found. "If the family misses a payment, some tuition payment plans may be converted into private student loans with unfavorable terms," he said.
