A new report suggests there will likely be more Gen Zers working full-time than boomers by early 2024. Meanwhile, some Gen Xers are getting ready to make retirement decisions. That shift in demographics is expected to change how employers attract young talent since Gen Zers have different priorities compared to their older colleagues. "We know that the types of workplace culture and benefits that Gen Z values is different than baby boomers." "Particularly in contrast to Gen Z, Gen X is a little bit more cautious about asking and demanding change and transparency and voice in the workplace," Terrazas said.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Passenger numbers at Dubai International Airport this year will eclipse the pre-pandemic passenger figures in 2019, showing the strong rebound in travel after the coronavirus pandemic and lockdowns that grounded aircraft worldwide, a top official said Wednesday. The airport, the world's busiest for international travel and home of the long-haul carrier Emirates, has had 64.5 million passengers pass through its cavernous concourses through the third quarter of this year. That puts it on track to reach 86.8 million passengers for the full year, which would exceed its 2019 figure of 86.3 million passengers. But many Republican strategists believe that DeSantis’ struggles to connect with voters, and his choice to run at Trump solely from the right, have opened a lane for Haley to eclipse the Florida governor. An array of recent polls, both nationally and in the battleground states, signal that DeSantis and Haley have separated themselves from the rest of the candidates chasing Trump. “Absolutely, Nikki Haley has more upside than DeSantis if they are both viable after the first two,” argued Alex Stroman, a former executive director of the South Carolina GOP. DeSantis, Ayres argued, has “has tried to appeal to some of the ‘always Trump’ voters, but the ‘always Trump’ voters are always Trump for a reason. Nikki Haley seems to have figured out the job is to consolidate the ‘maybe Trump’ voters who supported Trump twice but now … want a different style and different temperament.”Republicans sympathetic to DeSantis argue that it is Haley who has boxed herself in.

The update, according to two people with knowledge of the talks, was that there is no update — at least about the much-ballyhooed tie-up between Schonfeld and its much larger rival, $60 billion Millennium Management. Whether investors will pull a significant chunk of capital or stand by the firm won't crystallize until 5 p.m. Thursday. Schonfeld, whose assets stood at $11.7 billion in October, has experienced two years of lackluster returns following a period of rapid expansion. Schonfeld management was courting several institutional investors, and in early October, the Financial Times reported that Millennium threw its hat in the ring. In the event of some form of tie-up with Millennium, there would be redundancies, especially in corporate and back-office roles.

The third Republican presidential debate will take place Wednesday evening in Miami with the smallest field of contestants yet — just five candidates. That’s down from the clamorous field of eight who shouted and jostled their way through the first encounter in Milwaukee in August. (The former president, who has skipped the two previous debates, will be hosting a rally outside Miami while his rivals spar.) Here are some things to watch over the course of the two-hour debate. She has a chance to use her momentum to eclipse Mr. DeSantis, her most serious rival in the race, to be the top Trump alternative.

At the first two debates, Mr. DeSantis played the front-runner, attacking his opponents only when he was hit first. This has not been an easy stretch for Mr. DeSantis, in no small part because of the attacks from Mr. Trump on everything from his foreign policy credentials to his height. Mr. DeSantis has staked his bid on his performance in the state’s first-in-the-nation caucuses on Jan. 15. Mr. DeSantis offered a similar criticism of the president while campaigning in New Hampshire in October. Unless Mr. Trump makes a dramatic last-minute appearance on the stage, that seems unlikely to change.

Freedom of political expression in Israel with regard to the Israeli-Arab conflict, especially with regard to Israeli policy toward Palestinians, has always been precarious, especially for the Palestinian citizens of Israel. It shouldn’t be surprising: In societies that contain widespread nationalistic tendencies, as is sadly the case in Israel, war and national tragedies create the perfect environment for witch hunts and the accelerated branding of critics and minorities as enemies from within. The suppression of speech and targeting of critics of Israel’s policy toward the conflict has always had a strategic goal. Crushing dissent and eliminating the political force of Palestinian citizens of Israel are crucial conditions that must be met to achieve that goal. Michael Sfard is an Israeli human rights lawyer and the author of “The Wall and the Gate: Israel, Palestine and the Legal Battle for Human Rights.”

In turn, leaders like former Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi or Republican Speaker Paul Ryan collected tens of millions of dollars to divert to politically valuable campaigns elsewhere in the party. Florida Republican Matt Gaetz has raised nearly $2 million this year, helped by fundraising emails sent in the lead-up to his successful effort to remove Republican Representative Kevin McCarthy as House speaker. Vocal conservatives Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert have raised $2.7 million and $2.4 million, respectively, for their 2024 House campaigns. McCarthy raised 2.9% of House Republicans’ cash in the 2022 elections. Republican Representative Garret Graves criticized Representative Matt Gaetz on Oct. 3 for using his vote to oust House Speaker Kevin McCarthy as a fundraising opportunity.

When Elon Musk acquired Twitter a year ago, he pledged to turn the social-media platform into an “everything app” that would eclipse what the long-struggling business had accomplished since its founding in 2006. One year in, much of Musk’s grand vision has yet to play out. The company is struggling on a number of metrics, according to third-party data, including attracting users. It is trying to rebuild its advertising business after that revenue plummeted post takeover, and the platform also has been navigating content-moderation challenges after Musk loosened such rules.

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon on Tuesday warned about the dangers of locking in an outlook about the economy, particularly considering the poor recent track record of central banks like the Federal Reserve. "I want to point out the central banks 18 months ago were 100% dead wrong," he added. Dimon criticized "this omnipotent feeling that central banks and governments can manage through all this stuff. In other recent warnings, Dimon warned of a potential scenario in which the fed funds rate could eclipse 7%. "Whether the whole curve goes up 100 basis points, I would be prepared for it," he added.

Get ready for the next solar eclipse in April 2024

Sky-gazers across North America are in for a treat in 2024 when a total solar eclipse will pass over Mexico, the United States and Canada. That’s likely because a total solar eclipse won’t be visible across the contiguous US again until August 2044. The total solar eclipse will be visible in parts of Mexico, Canada and more than 10 US states, while a crescent-shaped partial solar eclipse is expected to appear in 49 states — weather permitting. During the 2017 total solar eclipse, a young woman was diagnosed with solar retinopathy, retinal damage from exposure to solar radiation, in both eyes after viewing the eclipse with what doctors believed were eclipse glasses not held to the safety standard. If you bought eclipse glasses to see the “ring of fire,” save your eclipse glasses and viewers for the total solar eclipse in April by storing them at room temperature in an envelope or their original packaging to avoid scratches.
