Black conservative radio host Shelley Wynter drew outrage from many when he broke down the Black male electorate in the U.S. into “house African Americans and field African Americans” during an appearance Wednesday on CNN. “This race is between house African Americans and field African Americans, and field African Americans are voting for [Donald] Trump.”During enslavement in the U.S., “house slaves” worked in the main house and generally performed indoor tasks. At the same time, Wynter’s comments highlighted the intensity surrounding the Black male vote and how influential it may be in November. “It just does a disservice to all of us, both as voters and as Black Americans. “There’s nothing that compares to enslavement in the United States or for Black Americans,” he said.

Sydney’s famous Bondi Beach and other beaches around the Australian city were shut on Thursday as authorities investigated mysterious tar balls that have washed ashore. The dark, sticky, golf-ball-sized blobs were first reported Tuesday on Coogee Beach, leading to a series of beach closures across the city’s shores. The City Council of Randwick, a Sydney suburb that is home to four of the beaches, said preliminary test results showed that the blobs were tar balls, formed when oil comes into contact with debris and water. “We don’t yet know what has happened to produce the debris washing up on our beaches,” Mayor Dylan Parker said in a statement Thursday. The regulator said it was investigating the origin of the debris and whether it posed any risks to the community and environment.

London CNN —A 39-year-old British woman was killed when a malfunctioning ottoman bed fell on her neck and asphyxiated her, a coroner’s report said. Ottoman beds have a base that can be raised – usually using gas-lift hydraulics – to access a storage space underneath. The mattress platform on Davey’s bed fell unexpectedly, “trapping her neck against the upper surface of the side panel of the bed’s base,” Chipperfield explained. I dropped everything that I was holding and tried to lift the top of the bed off her head. The bed was no longer a soft close and could fall heavily if it was released.

Ultimately, the spokesperson said, the plaintiff “engaged in blackmail and extortion” when sexual advances didn’t get the results she desired. The original version as well as the amended filing allege wrongful termination, breach of contract, sexual harassment and hostile work environment, unlawful retaliation and emotional distress. The amended complaint also emphasized allegations of false imprisonment, sexual battery and infliction of emotional distress.

In this 2004 photo, then-District Attorney Kamala Harris waits for a proceeding to convene in San Francisco. The long-standing problem of racial inequities in the criminal justice system is among the issues that prompted Harris to become a prosecutor in the first place. “I grew up knowing about the disparities, inequities, and unfairness in the criminal justice system,” Harris said during a 2019 town hall hosted by MSNBC. And I am proud of the work that I did.”As a prosecutor, Harris adopted what she called a “smart on crime” approach to law enforcement. Her cautious stance on the issue frustrated many advocates of criminal justice reform, including those who expressed support for Harris on other issues.

But the surveys also reveal a noticeable gap in support between the pro-abortion rights amendments and the Democratic presidential and Senate candidates who are campaigning on a pro-abortion rights platform. Pro-abortion rights ballot measures won in every state where they appeared on the ballot, including conservative-leaning ones, in the 2022 and 2023 elections. Similarly in Arizona, a proposed amendment to enshrine abortion rights in the state’s constitution has clear majority support. In Montana, there’s little evidence that the presence of an abortion rights amendment has had a major effect on the race between three-term Democratic Sen. Jon Tester and Republican challenger Tim Sheehy. For example, in Missouri, public polling indicates broad support for a constitutional amendment to enshrine abortion rights, while Republican Sen. Josh Hawley and Trump hold strong leads in their races.

It was not known why he was in the yard, which was next door to the residence where the dogs lived, Hawkins said. Harvey Weinstein’s attorneys have submitted a filing opposing a move by prosecutors to combine two sexual crimes cases against the disgraced film mogul. Manhattan prosecutors have sought to consolidate new charges with ones previously brought against Weinstein so that they could be tried in court together. But in a court document, a response to the prosecutors' motion to consolidate cases filed Oct. 2, the Oscar-winning producer’s lawyers accused the district attorney’s office of acting improperly and unfairly. Bragg’s office signaled that it would seek to link the two cases together ahead of Weinstein’s retrial. Samson says prosecutors say they won’t be ready in time and want to move the trial to January.

The most luxurious experience of them all, however, could be found in the dining car. The latter was the first train car to offer on-board meals, including regional specialties like gumbo, which were prepared in a 3-foot-by-6 foot kitchen. By the 1870s, dining cars could be found on sleeper trains across North America. But this decentralized production model also contained the seed of dining car’s ultimate demise. And despite a revival of interest in train travel on the continent, dining cars (or certainly those equipped with kitchens) are now largely the preserve of tourist services.
