New York CNN —A married New Jersey couple that was in a severe accident during an Uber ride can’t sue the company because they and their daughter agreed to arbitration when they accepted the terms of service for a separate Uber Eats order, a court has ruled. Georgia sustained several fractures throughout her body, including cervical, lumbar, spine and rib fractures and other physical injuries that required surgeries and other procedures. They tried taking Uber to court for a jury trial, but an appellate court recently ruled they can’t because they previously agreed to Uber’s updated terms and conditions requiring arbitration, which are the same in the Uber Eats and Uber ride app. The McGinty’s attorneys told CNN they’re reviewing the decision and will “likely” petition the New Jersey Supreme Court. Anger over arbitrationIt’s the latest case that highlights the intricacies of the terms of services having binding arbitration agreements that users agree to with many companies.

And then, with the US presidential elections now less than five weeks away, there is the prospect of a second Donald Trump presidency. According to Prakash, Rutte is "coming into the role from a certain outlook, and that outlook is essentially saying: 'We need to stand with America.'" NATO's deputy secretary-general, Mircea Geoană, told Euronews in July that China, as a direct enabler of Russia's war in Ukraine, threatened the alliance's security. China is at risk of falling into a prolonged period of deflation, Yale economist Stephen Roach says. The country's monetary stimulus blitz was a move in the right direction, Roach said in an FT op-ed. The two missing pieces are fiscal support and structural reform, Roach wrote in a new op-ed for the Financial Times. AdvertisementAccording to Roach, China's projected GDP rate of 4% over the next five years virtually mirrors Tokyo's situation 30 years ago. China now needs to do the same with fiscal stimulus.

How a Roth IRA for kids worksYes, kids can have their own Roth IRA — and, just like for adults, the IRS rules are pretty straightforward. There's no minimum age requirement for contributing to a Roth IRA; if a child can earn money, they can have a Roth IRA. watch nowMore about those income requirements: To contribute to a Roth IRA, the child must have earned income. Why I like the Roth IRA for youngstersI think of the Roth IRA as the "golden egg" savings vehicle for young people because not only is the account tax-sheltered, it also has the benefit of liquidity. Establishing a Roth IRA for youngsters is a powerful way to set them on the path to financial security.

The leader of a Haitian nonprofit community group filed criminal charges Tuesday against former President Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, and his running mate Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, over false claims they made about Haitian immigrants’ eating local pets in Springfield, Ohio. "Over the last two weeks, both Trump and Vance led an effort to vilify and threaten the Haitian community in Springfield, Ohio," Jozef wrote. "Together, they spread and amplified the debunked claim that Haitians immigrants in Springfield are eating cats, dogs, and wildlife." City officials have repeatedly said the claim that Haitian immigrants have arrived in Springfield illegally is not true. He has continued to spread false claims about pets in Springfield on his social media website and at rallies.

The outcome of November's presidential election could have major implications for some popular technology stocks. Meanwhile, a victory by Vice President Kamala Harris may lead to tighter AI regulations focused on safety, ethics and protecting consumers. AI chip giant Nvidia is another likely winner in both split scenarios and a Republican sweep. Heightened antitrust controls over Google and its local search monopoly in a Democrat sweep and split Harris government should also benefit shares of Yelp down 27% this year. Republican sweep Raymond James views Salesforce as a potential big winner in a Republican sweep, noting that "more favorable" corporate tax rates should benefit cyclical software names.

Ambassador Nikki Haley announced that she would vote for former President Donald Trump during an event at the Hudson Institute on May 22, 2024 in Washington, DC. Several former state campaign committee members on Nikki Haley's failed presidential bid have endorsed Democratic nominee Kamala Harris — publicly breaking with Haley, who is backing GOP nominee Donald Trump. The same day, two former members of Haley's Michigan state leadership team also urged Republicans to support the Democratic ticket of Harris and Minnesota Gov. "That's why we proudly supported Ambassador Nikki Haley for president and were part of her Michigan Leadership Team." A spokeswoman for Haley did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment on her former campaigners endorsing Harris.
