But those failing to tempt their child to eat their broccoli can take solace, as research has found that picky eating is largely down to genes rather than environment. They found that non-identical twin pairs were much less similar when it came to picky eating than identical twin pairs. Picky eating “often causes a lot of stress for the children and their families,” Moritz Herle, a researcher at King’s College London and one of the study’s lead authors, said. The study found that environmental factors can, however, have an impact on a child’s food pickiness when they are a toddler. Abigail Pickard, a researcher in developmental child psychology at Aston University who wasn’t involved in the research, told CNN that picky eating is “quite common” in children.

London CNN —The European Union will loan Ukraine up to €35 billion ($39 billion) to help rebuild its economy, the bloc’s executive arm announced Friday. Western nations froze Russia’s assets in bank accounts located in Europe and the United States as part of a massive wave of sanctions enacted after Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Von der Leyen’s visit to Kyiv comes just as the winter heating season starts in Ukraine. Republican presidential nominee and former U.S. President Donald Trump looks on during a rally at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, in Uniondale, New York, U.S., September 18, 2024. Shares of Trump Media sank more than 7% Friday morning, hitting a new 52-week low one day after "lockup" restrictions expired, which had previously prevented its majority shareholder, former President Donald Trump, and other early investors from selling their shares. The lockup agreement first took effect when Trump Media went public in March, following a merger with a blank-check firm. The company has acknowledged in regulatory filings that the end of the lockup could spur large sales of the company's stock, which trades under the ticker "DJT." But even if insiders weren't the ones selling, the company has said that a perception by the markets that a sell-off was underway might drive down DJT's stock price.

Coronary calcium buildup causes atherosclerosis, a chronic and inflammatory cardiovascular disease marked by narrowed arterial walls and thus reduced blood flow. Environmental contaminants have been increasingly recognized as risk factors for cardiovascular disease, but the association of metals with coronary artery calcification has been “largely unknown,” the study authors said. They hypothesized that higher urinary levels of nonessential metals — cadmium, tungsten and uranium — and essential metals — cobalt, copper and zinc — that have previously been associated with cardiovascular disease may be linked with calcification. The participants didn’t already have clinical cardiovascular disease and were recruited from Baltimore; Chicago; Los Angeles; New York City; St. Paul, Minnesota; and Winston Salem, North Carolina. The trouble with measuring urinary metal levelsThe study has a few other limitations.
