I thought it wasn't worthwhile to invest in an estate plan if I didn't have any assets. The price of Bitcoin hovered around $72,000 on Tuesday, extending a rally that has helped mint a new crop of crypto billionaires. The cryptocurrency has climbed by more than 50 percent since the Securities and Exchange Commission approved the first Bitcoin exchange traded funds in January, bringing a wave of mainstream investors into crypto trading. Coinbase, a Nasdaq-listed crypto exchange, has seen its stock surge alongside Bitcoin this year. It said in its suit that the agency has shirked its responsibility to write clear rules on how the industry should operate. A panel of judges agreed that the agency acted arbitrarily, a ruling that paved the way for the approval in January of new Bitcoin funds.

"Bitcoin reclaiming its all-time high yet again shows it is never going away," said Alex Thorn, head of research at Galaxy Digital. Catalysts driving the surge in the cryptocurrency include the U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs that started trading earlier this year, along with the tightening bitcoin supply ahead of the late April "halving." "The odds have always been against bitcoin," Thorn said, citing naysayers who have referred to it as "a bubble" and compared it to the "tulip mania" in Holland during the 1600s. "Retail interest is oftentimes momentum driven, and all-time high levels are a pivotal momentum driver for even more investment," he told CNBC. Nevertheless, U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs have brought legitimacy to it and been hugely popular, with BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) passing $10 billion in assets under management last week.

CNN —Gemini Trust, a cryptocurrency exchange founded by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, will return at least $1.1 billion to customers of its now shuttered lending program, following a settlement with a New York regulator. NYDFS has the right to “bring further action against Gemini if the company does not fulfill its obligation,” it said in the statement. In a Wednesday blog post, the crypto exchange said that due to the settlement, customers of its lending program, Gemini Earn, would receive 100% of their digital assets back in kind plus any appreciation in value. Gemini Earn marketed itself as a low-risk investment in which customers could lend crypto assets to another firm, Genesis Global Capital (GGC), while earning interest payments as high as 8%. That was when the trillion-dollar crypto market crumbled, due to the collapse of FTX, the once high-flying crypto exchange.

Home prices declined slightly in November while posting yearly gains, suggesting the housing sector has cooled somewhat heading into 2024. The house price decline came at a time where mortgage rates peaked, with the average Freddie Mac 30-year fixed rate mortgage nearing 8%, according to Federal Reserve data. But as more inventory comes on the market and mortgage rates remain elevated, sale prices may be beginning to wilt. That has led some analysts to say that the market could bounce back as the traditional spring buying season begins. The index tracks a three-month period when mortgage rates were zig-zagging and ended on a down note, said Danielle Hale, chief economist at Realtor.com.
