VC firm Fearless Fund is being sued by the group behind the Supreme Court affirmative action case. The conservative group claims a grant program run by Fearless Fund is racially discriminatory. It also led some companies like Bank of America, Mastercard , PayPal and others to earmark millions of dollars to fund and address the racial funding gap. A small, Atlanta-based, Black women-led venture firm called Fearless Fund was one of them. "Their motive is clear: they want to disrupt the vital work of Fearless Fund and similar institutions and organizations whose primary mission is to provide underrepresented communities with an economic engine to build, sustain and scale their businesses," said Fearless Fund in a press release.

ROME, Aug 1 (Reuters) - Italy's cyber security agency on Tuesday said it had detected hacker attacks against websites of at least five banks, which temporarily made it impossible to access some of their services. A spokesperson for the agency told Reuters that targeted banks included Intesa Sanpaolo (ISP.MI), Monte dei Paschi di Siena (BMPS.MI) and BPER Banca (EMII.MI), along with FinecoBank (FBK.MI) and Banca Popolare di Sondrio (BPSI.MI). The agency "identified the reactivation of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack campaigns by pro-Russian ... groups against national institutional subjects," a statement said. In DDoS attacks, hackers attempt to flood a network with unusually high volumes of data traffic in order to paralyse it. The agency said it provided swift assistance to the firms targeted by attacks from activists in the Noname057(16) group in order to mitigate any impact.

Today, many universities have consciously or unconsciously abandoned that mission and replaced it with the pursuit of diversity, equity and inclusion. The criticism of such programs might begin with a simple question: Even on its own terms, does D.E.I. Researchers at Harvard and Tel Aviv University studied 30 years of diversity training data from more than 800 U.S. companies and concluded that mandatory diversity training programs had practically no effect on employee attitudes — and sometimes activated bias and feelings of racial hostility. There is no reason to believe that similar programs on university campuses have better outcomes. These programs have become commonplace not only in official “diversity and inclusion” programs, but also throughout administrative and academic departments.

A former DEI leader at Salesforce is now suing the company for race discrimination. It's not the first time a Black woman has claimed she was discriminated against at Salesforce. In November 2021, the complainant was moved to the Office of Equality at Salesforce, where she reported to the company's Chief Equality Officer. This complainant is not the first Black woman to complain of biased and unfair treatment at Salesforce. In 2022, Salesforce reported that 5.2% of its workforce identified as Black or African-American, up from 3.5% in 2020.

Laura Sgro, the attorney for the Orlandi family, said at the press conference that the authorities had also cleared the uncle.

CNN —House Speaker Kevin McCarthy faces a challenge Friday morning: A razor thin margin to get a must-pass defense policy bill over the finish line with a majority of Democrats signaling they cannot support the version of the legislation crafted by conservative Republicans. The bill – known as the National Defense Authorization Act – sets the policy agenda and authorizes funding for the Department of Defense. If they lose that many members, it would greatly increase the prospects that Republicans could muscle the bill through. Without Democratic support, Republicans will need to wrangle nearly every member of the GOP conference in order to get the bill over the finish line. Many Democrats made clear ahead of the vote that if the amendment was included as part of the defense bill, they would be unlikely to support final passage.

In singling out Target, GOP lawmakers and right-wing social media personalities are sending a larger warning to corporate America to roll back recent diversity and inclusion policies, analysts say. Target first began its diversity initiatives 20 years ago and added new policies in 2020. Such efforts to curb gun violence have run into fierce pushback from Republican lawmakers who oppose both gun restrictions and corporations taking on social roles. Now, Republicans are stepping up their scrutiny on companies’ diversity efforts in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision on affirmative action in college admissions. "DEI leaders are facing extreme fatigue and burnout," says Chandra Robinson, vice president in the Gartner HR practice. "Unfortunately," she says, "with so much attention paid to DEI, undue pressures are put on DEI leaders to make progress" quickly. Half of DEI leaders say their biggest challenge is when other leaders fail to take ownership for driving diversity outcomes, and one-third say they have limited power to effectively drive change, according to a 2022 Gartner survey of 181 DEI leaders. Black women are more likely than women overall to aspire to executive roles, according to the joint Lean In and McKinsey "Women in the Workplace" report. But they also face more barriers to advance in their career: Black women leaders are more likely to be undermined at work, and 1 in 3 Black women leaders says they've been denied or passed over for opportunities because of personal characteristics, including their race and gender.
