Read previewA Neom executive reportedly complained about having an emergency meeting on a Sunday evening following the deaths of three employees working on Saudi Arabia's megaproject estimated to cost between $500 billion and $1.5 trillion, according to a bombshell Wall Street Journal report. Wayne Borg, a former Fox Corp executive, reportedly described Neom's blue-collar workers from the Indian subcontinent as "f—ing morons" and said "that is why white people are at the top of the pecking order." This story is available exclusively to Business Insider subscribers. Citing current and former Neom employees, the Journal reported that three workers were killed by a falling pipe, a collapsing wall, and mishandled explosives. Neom told the Journal it has a zero-tolerance policy toward inappropriate workplace behavior.

Investors and Wall Street analysts may want to take a closer look at stocks that could be winners under a President Kamala Harris after Tuesday night's debate . National polls showed a tight race heading into the debate, but some now believe Harris could get a bump from her performance. "We expect a near-term bounce towards Vice President Harris following the first debate with former President Trump, but the longer-term impact remains unclear," Raymond James Washington analyst Ed Mills said in a note to clients late Tuesday night. Wolfe Research has a similar list of stocks in an anti-Trump trade basket, including health care stocks like Centene and HCA . Of course, it could be difficult for new Democratic policies to become law even with a Harris win in November, depending on how Congressional races shake out.

SYDNEY, Australia — Australia plans to set a minimum age limit for children to use social media citing concerns about mental and physical health, drawing a backlash from digital rights advocates who warn the measure could drive dangerous online activity underground. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said his center-left government would run an age verification trial before introducing age minimum laws for social media this year. The law would put Australia among the first countries in the world to impose an age restriction on social media. Representatives of Meta, the owner of Facebook and Instagram, which has a self-imposed minimum age of 13, YouTube owner Alphabet and TikTok were not immediately available for comment. Australia has one of the world’s most online populations with more than four-fifths of its 26 million people on social media, according to government and tech industry figures.

Federal Reserve Board Vice Chair for Supervision Michael S. Barr testifies at a Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee hearing on "Recent Bank Failures and the Federal Regulatory Response" on Capitol Hill in Washington, March 28, 2023. Introduced in July 2023, the regulatory overhaul known as the Basel Endgame would've boosted capital requirements for the world's largest banks by roughly 19%. The change comes after banks, business groups, lawmakers and others weighed in on the possible impact of the original proposal, Barr told an audience at the Brookings Institution. "There are benefits and costs to increasing capital requirements. That would likely boost capital requirements by 3% to 4% over time, Barr said.

Disney and DirecTV are not likely to reach a deal in time for "Monday Night Football" according to people familiar with the matter. As a result of the fight, DirecTV customers were unable to see the U.S. Open and the first full weekend of the college football season. DirecTV alerted customers on Friday to competitor alternatives for watching ESPN and also said it would provide a $30 credit to customers. However, Charter and Disney reached a deal hours ahead of "Monday Night Football" that allowed customers to tune in that night. The dispute between DirecTV and Disney has led to mudslinging between the two companies reminiscent of most carriage fights.

New York CNN —DirecTV wants its customers to stick with the service during an increasingly nasty dispute with Disney that threatens to black out tonight’s “Monday Night Football” game. So DirecTV developed an unusual strategy: It’s paying customers to subscribe to a rival. Affected customers of DirecTV, DirecTV Stream and U-Verse can get a free weeklong trial of Fubo for two of its packages that carry ESPN and Disney networks and an additional $30 off the first month of service. DirecTV is also giving its customers a $30 credit to sign up for Sling’s orange tier that includes ESPN channels. DirecTV said the deals are a “small way” to help customers while its fight over the expired distribution agreement with Disney stretches into a second week.

Murdoch is one of the most powerful and influential media titans of the modern age. The palace intrigue inside the Murdoch family has often lent itself to breathless public fascination, inspiring the HBO series “Succession” and behind-the-scenes books. The family is divided partly by differences in political opinion — and how those beliefs could shape the future of its sprawling media empire. Lachlan Murdoch, who took over as chairman of Fox Corp. and News Corp. last September, tends to be more aligned with his father’s conservative worldview. James Murdoch, Elisabeth Murdoch and Prudence Murdoch are believed to be more politically moderate.

These regional powers are betting they can build an expendable air force without the massive costs of aircraft carriers, fighter jets and pilots trained to fly them. Naval experts agree that drone ships represent new possibilities while pointing out that these ships fall far short of the aircraft carriers and amphibious assault ships that top navies sail. Turkey developed the Bayraktar TB3 naval drone for the Anadolu and claims the unmanned Kizilelma fighter jet it is developing could also operate from it. Although far from the might and versatility of flattops, these vessels enhance Turkey and Iran's respective capabilities to project naval power. These drone-carriers also have inherent shortcomings when compared to aircraft carriers and amphibious assault ships in other navies.

Trump Media ended the trading day at $16.98 per share, a 6% decline on the day. Trump Media shares on Wednesday closed below where they stood at the end of 2023, as the Truth Social maker's stock continued to slide ahead of the date when majority owner Donald Trump can begin selling his stake . The stock price has ricocheted since then, as traders and analysts increasingly viewed Trump Media as a meme stock and as its value rose and fell with the political fortunes of the Republican presidential nominee. A Trump Media spokesperson told CNBC in a statement, "Trump Media is rapidly building out our platform while maintaining a strong balance sheet." That upcoming deadline has stoked speculation about whether Trump will try to cash out his shares or hold on to his stake.

New York CNN —For months, former President Donald Trump has been sitting on a social media fortune that he couldn’t touch. As recently as May 9, Trump’s dominant stake of 114.75 million shares of Trump Media was valued at $6.2 billion. Despite the recent selloff, Trump Media is still valued at nearly $4 billion. Once the lock-up period expires, Trump will no longer be prohibited from borrowing against his stake in Trump Media. Experts say that if Trump does borrow against his Truth Social stake, he may not be required to disclose it.

Shares of Trump Media fell to their lowest price since Donald Trump's social media company completed a merger nearly five months ago. Trump Media, which owns the Republican former president's preferred social messaging platform Truth Social, ended the trading day at $22.24 per share, a drop of more than 3.5%. The stock price has continued to be volatile, but since mid-July has lost nearly half of its value. Trump Media's stock slump in the past four weeks coincided with a swirl of seismic developments for Trump, who is both the majority stakeholder of Trump Media and a main draw for Truth Social users.
