Rescuers are scrambling to find dozens of people missing after severe flash floods ripped across southern and eastern Spain, where some areas received up to 12 inches of rain in just a few hours. At least 95 people were killed, with the majority of deaths in the worst-hit region of Valencia, after being hit by the worst rainfall in the region in 28 years. President Harris would probably put more pressure on Israel to reach a cease-fire and open up talks with the Palestinians. Ukrainians worry that a President Trump would force a quick and dirty peace deal favorable to Russia. They hope a President Harris would continue to support them on the battlefield. Under President Harris, that would probably mean continuity with the Biden administration policies that have become much more restrictive over time. What we learned from the 2024 World Series

You’re the winner, friend, because you’ve learned something about baseball during the World Series. The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees in the 2024 World Series, four games to one. They might have played the sloppiest inning in World Series history, if not the sloppiest game in World Series history. It was certainly the sloppiest game from a World Series team facing elimination, and I’m not fact-checking that. The World Series was promoted like “Godzilla vs. Kong,” except one of the monsters got hurt before he could do anything.

BRUSSELS, Belgium — The European Union is imposing duties on imports of electric vehicles from China starting Wednesday after talks between Brussels and Beijing failed to find an amicable solution to their trade dispute. According to the commission, which manages trade disputes on behalf of the 27 E.U. member countries, sales of Chinese-built electric cars jumped from 3.9% of the EV market in 2020 to 25% by September 2023, in part by unfairly undercutting E.U. Other EV manufacturers in China, including Western companies such as Volkswagen and BMW, would be subject to duties of 20.7%. The measures were published in the bloc’s legal Official Journal late Tuesday, meaning duties entered into force as of midnight, said E.U.

The EU and China have reportedly agreed to start talks on the planned imposition of tariffs on Chinese-made EVs. China's commerce ministry said it "does not accept" tariffs imposed by the European Union on Chinese electric vehicles, after the bloc increased tariffs on Chinese EVs to as high as 45.3% on Wednesday. The commerce ministry said "China will continue to take all necessary measures to resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies." China's commerce ministry also highlighted the EU has indicated it will continue to negotiate with China, adding that both sides are conducting a new round of consultations. On Oct. 25, Reuters reported the two sides were looking at possible minimum price commitments from Chinese producers or investments in Europe as an alternative to tariffs.

Tesla's falling California sales point to bigger problems for the car company. AdvertisementTesla is losing some ground in its home state of California, signaling more trouble ahead for the world's largest electric car company. As electric car sales rose 2% in California, Tesla's sales in the state fell 3.5%, according to third-quarter figures from the California New Car Dealers Association. The losses don't upset Tesla's market dominance: the Elon Musk-led company still accounted for more than half of all EV sales in California for the quarter. "Tesla's sales are actually doing great," he said during a recent X space.

My family and I spent about $750 to take a roundtrip ferry across Lake Michigan. We took our car on the ferry, which accounted for the majority of our expenses. The trip was relaxing, but next time, I'll rent a car at our destination. The trip wasn't stress-free, but the views made up for itThe beautiful views were the best part of the trip. Next time we take the ferry, though, we'll borrow someone else's car at our destination or rent one at the terminal.

While Xpeng delivered a monthly record of more than 20,000 cars in September, with about half the sales owed to its newly launched, lower-cost brand Mona, Nio has struggled to keep monthly deliveries above 20,000 cars. Zeekr , an electric car brand founded by automaker Geely, has claimed it produced more than 100,000 vehicles in 1.5 years.
