New arrivals to the U.K. will receive 100% U.K. tax relief for their first four years, so long as they have been non-resident for the last 10 years. That's in addition to the £21.1 billion the independent Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) forecast to be raised by earlier changes to the non-dom regime announced by the Conservatives in March. "Although the draft legislation has now been released, the Government still has time to create a new non-dom system that works for internationally-mobile individuals," Porter said in a statement. With Election Day underway, income investors should soon find out how their portfolio may — or may not — be affected by the outcome. Harris has said she wants to boost the corporate tax rate to 28% and increase the top rate for long-term capital gains to 28% for those making more than $1 million. That means that those who are buying AMT bonds but not paying AMT are getting free income, he said. Lastly, a higher corporate tax rate could also spur banks and insurance companies to return to the muni market. The companies owned a lot of municipal bonds when the tax rate was 35% and many bought more corporate bonds when the tax rate fell to 21%, Brandon said.

With Election Day upon us, many investors are wondering how to, or if they even should, position their stock portfolios ahead of knowing who the next president will be. Indecision will hurt the stock market, not destroy it, but bruise it because the only thing markets really hate is uncertainty." Jim also wrote Sunday that the stock market will more than likely be just fine no matter who wins the presidency. The bond market, which has already seen dramatic moves leading up to the U.S. presidential election, could see even bigger price action depending on the outcome. Specifically, he warned about traders taking the 10-year Treasury yield , a bond market benchmark, above 5% — a level it hasn't seen since mid-2007. To be sure, there are myriad reasons why the bond market has been in a state of tumult since mid-September, political considerations of a second Trump term being just one of them. "The bond market could easily nullify the impacts of another rate cut. That's because the bond market believes the Fed is cutting rates by too much, too soon, and is therefore raising long-term inflation expectations. It could carry "higher tariffs and mass deportations, which triggers stagflation in the US including a second inflation spike," the bank said.

Uncertainty is the key theme for markets on the eve of Election Day, but fixed income investors say there are a few opportunities to snap up solid yield even as the market holds its breath. "We are constructive on fixed income as a whole, despite these uncertainties, and we're stressing to investors that yields are really quite attractive – and the income generation we can get from fixed income right now is quite powerful," Persson added. The euro rose 0.4% to $1.0876 but faces resistance around $1.0905, while the dollar dipped 0.3% on the yen to 152.45 yen . Analysts believe Trump's policies on immigration, tax cuts and tariffs would put upward pressure on inflation, bond yields and the dollar, while Harris was seen as the continuity candidate. "A Harris win and a split Congress would likely result in 'Trump trades' quickly reversed and priced out," he added. Uncertainty over the outcome is one reason markets assume the Federal Reserve will choose to cut rates by a standard 25 basis points on Thursday, rather than repeat its outsized half-point easing. Futures imply a 99% chance of a quarter-point cut to 4.50%-4.75%, and an 83% probability of a similar-sized move in December.

CNN —The tumultuous 2024 election is ending with a contrast that encapsulates America’s fateful choice on election eve. The vice president also proposes reforms to improve the lives of working Americans — but hers are less revolutionary than Trump’s. If she loses Pennsylvania, Harris would need a combination of other swing states, including Georgia, Nevada and Arizona, where poll averages also show no clear leader. But the findings, which suggested a shift toward Harris from the previous Iowa Poll in September, also showed the vice president with a strong advantage among women. If such a pattern is repeated nationwide, the vice president could be headed to victory if she can limit her deficit to Trump among White males especially.
