CNN —Tiger Woods is set for his first competitive appearance in seven months at the Hero World Challenge later this month. Woods underwent ankle surgery in May after enduring “constant” pain across his three rounds at Augusta National the previous month, only his second competitive appearance of 2023. Started in 2000 and staged as a benefit to Woods’ TGR Foundation, the Hero World Challenge will see the five-time event winner compete as part of a 20-player invitational field featuring many of the game’s top players, including world No. Fifteen-time major winner Woods has prioritized appearances at the four major championships in his sporadic competitive appearances since suffering severe leg injuries in a car crash two years ago but missed the three subsequent flagship events following The Masters as he recovered from May’s surgery. (AP) — Steve Norton, who ran the first U.S. gambling facility outside Nevada — Resorts casino in Atlantic City — and gave advice around the world on how to set up and operate casinos, has died. His son, Rob, president of Cordish Gaming, said Norton died Sunday following an accident in his Oceanside, California, home. “Steve was an early and influential gaming executive in Atlantic City and at Resorts,” said the casino's current president, Mark Giannantonio. “He was an important leader in the Atlantic City market dating back to the 1970s. Norton used his experience as an Atlantic City casino pioneer to advise state governments — including in Louisiana, Illinois and Indiana — on how to adopt riverboat gambling, and in 1998 founded his own gambling consultancy company based in Indiana.

NEW YORK (AP) — In a closing argument, a prosecutor told a New York jury Wednesday to follow overwhelming evidence and the “pyramid of deceit” that FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried constructed to conclude he’s guilty of defrauding his customers and investors of at least $10 billion. “He told a story and he lied to you,” Roos told jurors just a day after Bankman-Fried concluded his testimony at the monthlong trial. FTX was bankrupt.”“Who was responsible?” Roos asked, only to quickly point to Bankman-Fried, sitting between his lawyers. He spent his customers' money and he lied to them about it.”The prosecutor said Bankman-Fried spent the money on real estate, donations, promotions, investments and political contributions.
