A police officer and a suspected shooter were injured Tuesday after gunfire erupted at a Midtown Atlanta building occupied by a Four Seasons hotel and residences, authorities said. The officer was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said at a news conference. Police responded to the high rise after 10 a.m. following a dispute between a Four Seasons worker and the man on the 33rd floor, which is occupied by residences, Schierbaum said. The Four Seasons hotel takes up 19 of 53 stories of the high rise and occupies 244 rooms, 23 of which are designated suites. Brian Carr, spokesperson for the Midtown Alliance in Atlanta, said the high rise also includes 96 residences and 97,000 square feet of office space.

A co-defendant in the racketeering and gun conspiracy case against Atlanta rapper Young Thug accepted a plea deal Tuesday after days of speculation over whether Georgia's longest-running criminal trial may end in a mistrial. Young Thug and the others have been jailed since 2022 on charges of conspiracy and criminal street gang activity and additional firearm- and drug-related charges. The indictment accuses Young Thug, 32, of leading a street gang, Young Slime Life, or YSL, with members committing illegal and violent acts, including murder, armed robbery, drug dealing and carjacking. Opening statements finally began last November after several defendants had already taken plea deals while others chose to be tried separately from Young Thug. Now Jackson and Johnson, who started college last year, have notched another achievement: authoring an academic paper detailing their original proof — plus nine more. In contrast, Jackson and Johnson were able to prove it using trigonometry — a subbranch of mathematics that focuses on the study of triangles. Jackson and Johnson’s study outlines five new ways of proving the theorem using trigonometry, and their method reveals five more proofs for 10 total. Johnson said she was happy to be able to show women and women of color in particular what can be achieved in a traditionally male-dominated field. The 70-year-old suspect used a handgun, shotgun and rifle to fire shots during the altercation, Atlanta Chief of Police Darin Schierbaum said at a press conference. Two police officers shot back during the exchange. One officer and the suspect were taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, but authorities didn’t know whether either were shot, Schierbaum said. Officers were told that the suspect had been involved in an altercation with a hotel employee, he said. The suspect eventually raised his hands, and a SWAT team went to his door and took him into custody, Schierbaum said.

CNN —Dwyane Wade’s status as a Miami Heat legend was further cemented on Sunday as the franchise unveiled an eight-foot statue of the three-time NBA champion. The 42-year-old played 16 seasons in the NBA and was selected as an All-Star 13 times before retiring in 2019. One comment on an Instagram video of the unveiling said that the statue better resembled Laurence Fishburne as ’Morpheus’ from the movie ‘The Matrix’ than Wade. Fans criticized the likeness of the statue although Wade himself didn't seem too bothered and was relishing the moment. Tyrese Haliburton led the way for the Pacers with 22 points but still looks a long way off last season’s form.
