Companies Equinor ASA FollowMorningstar Inc FollowNEW YORK, July 7 (Reuters) - Oil prices climbed about 2% to a six-week high on Friday as supply concerns outweighed fears that further interest rate hikes could slow economic growth and reduce demand for oil. "OPEC+ production cuts are expected to tighten the market, driving supply deficits in the second half of 2023, supporting higher oil prices," analysts at U.S. financial services company Morningstar said in a note. OPEC will likely maintain an upbeat view on oil demand growth for next year, sources close to OPEC said. Russia's latest pledge to reduce oil exports will not require a similar cut in production, a government source told Reuters. Higher borrowing costs could slow economic growth and reduce oil demand.

But the raucous event in Pickens also showed the enduring power of his personality and feral political appeal to GOP base voters. The state of the raceAs early as it is, some of the big questions that will decide the 2024 GOP primary are beginning to be answered. Even with his support among GOP voters appearing to soften in CNN’s post-indictment poll, there’s little sign it’s affecting his position in the race. While this may reinforce perceptions among GOP primary voters that he’s a victim, it could remind other voters of the possibility of a convicted felon serving as president. Still, Kennedy’s appeal shows that a distrust of Washington institutions, experts and a political system many voters fear has failed them, is no longer exclusively reserved for Republican primary voters.

People on diabetes and weight loss drugs such as Novo Nordisk 's Ozempic and Wegovy should stop taking them before having elective surgery to reduce the risk of serious health complications, a prominent group of doctors said. Under the ASA's guidance, people taking GLP-1 drugs on a daily basis should skip treatment on the day of elective surgery. Those taking GLP-1s weekly should stop treatment a week before the scheduled surgery, the group said. Prior to surgery, doctors should consider consulting with an endocrinologist for guidance on patients who take GLP-1s for diabetes. If a patient has none of those symptoms but did not stop using GLP-1s before the surgery, doctors should consider using ultrasound to check if they have a "full stomach."

Then the war came, and according to the family history, Union soldiers plundered Sessions’ 27-room house. About 48 years old at the time, he did not stand a chance to succeed without slavery, the family history suggests. ‘A Better Nation’Some historians and genealogists say there is a valuable reason for white leaders – and other white Americans – to explore their links to slavery. Nicka Sewell-Smith, a professional genealogist with the family history website Ancestry.com, said people frequently ask her what to do with such documents. The top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Meeks said in an interview that he has spent years trying to trace his family history back before 1870.

There are, as of Saturday, at least 13 people running for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination: former President Donald Trump; his U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley, his vice president, Mike Pence; Gov. Instead, Republicans are studiously focused on the fever dreams and preoccupations of right-wing media swamps while showing an almost total indifference to the real world. In the worst-hit areas, such as New York City, public health officials urged residents to either stay inside or use masks when venturing outdoors. And this is on top of emissions produced by cars and other vehicles in an economy that still runs on fossil fuels. For many Americans, in other words, it takes little more than a glance outside the window to see a major problem of national consequence.

While all of the candidates gave a nod to the “pro-life” movement, some stopped short of supporting Sen. Lindsey Graham’s, R-S.C., proposal for a 15-week federal abortion ban, which he has called on the GOP presidential candidates to support. Pence was the only candidate to specifically support Graham's bill on the first day of the conference. Ramaswamy has previously said he does not support a federal abortion ban. He said he plans to sign a federal abortion ban if elected president. Ron DeSantisDeSantis stuck by the six-week state abortion ban he signed in April, but he would not engage on Graham's proposal for a 15-week federal ban.

[1/3] Republican U.S. presidential candidate former Vice President Mike Pence addresses The Faith and Freedom Coalition's 2023 "Road to Majority" conference in Washington, U.S., June 23, 2023. The event, which former President Donald Trump will address on Saturday, coincides with the first anniversary of the Supreme Court's landmark Dobbs decision, which overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling that had legalized abortion. Apart from Pence, the other Republican candidates did not plunge deeply into policy specifics. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is second in opinion polls to the front-runner Trump, referred to a six-week abortion ban that he signed in his state earlier this year. Trump has attempted to ally himself with opponents of abortion rights, while also dodging specific questions on legislation he would or would not support.

Of course, someone is unlikely to read a book by a candidate unless they are somewhat interested in that person. — Angie BoyterWhen I wrote that I don’t read a presidential candidate’s book, I was mainly thinking about the genre of political books written by someone just about to run for president. They largely go unread, but they offer an excuse for TV producers to book a presidential hopeful on their shows.

June 20 (Reuters) - A U.S. judge on Tuesday struck down an Arkansas law prohibiting doctors from providing gender-affirming care including puberty blockers, hormones and surgery to transgender minors, a victory for families that had sued to challenge the law. Jerusalem CNN —A huge firefight erupted between Israeli military forces and Palestinian militants in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin Monday, leaving at least three Palestinians dead, authorities said. The Palestinian Ministry of Health said of the three dead, one was a teenager and more than two dozen were wounded in the clashes. Israeli Air Force attack helicopters opened fire from the skies over Jenin to help Israeli troops leave the city, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said. It was the first time since the Second Intifada that Israeli helicopters had opened fire while evacuating wounded troops, Israel Army Radio reported. Several Republican 2024 presidential hopefuls criticized Donald Trump Sunday as the former president faces 37 federal counts for allegedly hoarding documents after he left the White House. "He's a petulant child when someone disagrees with him," Christie told CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday. Presidential hopeful and former Vice President Mike Pence said it is "premature" to say whether or not he would pardon Trump were he to be convicted. "All we know is what the president has been accused of in the indictment," Pence told NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday. But Trump had a supporter on Sunday in Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy who has said the former president should be pardoned if convicted.

Washington CNN —Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie said Sunday it was a “useless idea” to force 2024 GOP contenders to sign a pledge to back the party’s ultimate nominee in order to participate in primary debates. “It’s only in the era of Donald Trump that you need somebody to sign something on a pledge. Trump, as a candidate in 2015, did not rule out an independent run for president at a debate in Cleveland. Trump has long accused it and the U.S. Justice Department of being out to get him. Trump's closest rival for the nomination, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, decried the "weaponization" of federal bureaucracy after Trump's indictment. Haley said Trump had acted recklessly, although she also said the FBI and Justice Department had "lost all credibility with the American people." None of the Republican president campaigns responded to requests for comment about their criticism of federal law enforcement and calls for an overhaul. The roar of outrage from Republican leaders to that indictment restored Trump’s grip on the party after frustration over his role in the GOP’s disappointing 2022 midterm elections had loosened it. Repeating the pattern from other moments of maximum threat to Trump, the GOP response has been marked by a pronounced communications imbalance. (The poll was conducted after Trump’s indictment in Manhattan but before the recent federal charges.) At another point Trump insisted, “These criminals cannot be rewarded” – presumably by frightening Republican voters away from nominating him. Yet, Robinson believes, by echoing Trump’s claims of unfair treatment, the other candidates are encouraging Republican voters to accept his framing of the race.

No one will be above the law.”That’s what then-candidate Donald Trump said at a campaign rally in August of 2016. Trump has reached for apocalyptic rhetoric, calling for his supporters to protest at the Florida courthouse when he is arraigned on Tuesday. The threats of violence reflect an authoritarian impulse completely at odds with the alleged principles of the Republican Party and the conservative movement. Here’s the key difference: Trump was not charged for having the classified documents but for willfully trying to hide the documents after the feds enquired. When facts and reason no longer apply, desperate individuals resort to threats of violence.

The federal indictment of former President Donald J. Trump has left the Republican Party — and his rivals for the party’s nomination — with a stark choice between deferring to a system of law and order that has been central to the party’s identity for half a century or a more radical path of resistance, to the Democratic Party in power and to the nation’s highest institutions that Mr. Trump now derides. How the men and women who seek to lead the party into the 2024 election respond to the indictments of the former president in the coming months will have enormous implications for the future of the G.O.P. So far, the declared candidates for the presidency who are not Mr. Trump have divided into three camps regarding his federal indictment last Thursday: those who have strongly backed him and his insistence that the indictment is a politically driven means to deny him a second White House term, such as Vivek Ramaswamy; those who have urged Americans to take the charges seriously, such as Chris Christie and Asa Hutchinson; and those who have straddled both camps, condemning the indictment but nudging voters to move past Mr. Trump’s leadership, such as Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley. The trick, for all of Mr. Trump’s competitors, will be finding the balance between harnessing the anger of the party’s core voters who remain devoted to him while winning their support as an alternative nominee.

Trump hits campaign trail as indictment roils 2024 race

CNN —Former President Donald Trump is set to return to the campaign trail Saturday, traveling to Georgia and North Carolina for speeches at a pair of state Republican conventions as news of his federal indictment roils the party’s 2024 presidential race. The pre-planned stops come the day after the Justice Department unsealed its indictment laying out the government’s case that Trump and aide Walt Nauta mishandled classified national security documents. The visits will give Trump a chance to respond to the charges in a campaign-style as he mounts battles on both the political and legal fronts. So far, Trump has cast his prosecution as a politically motivated effort to stop his bid for the presidency. In March, the Manhattan district attorney in New York indicted Trump on charges related to hush-money payments to a former adult star.
