The SEC has long rejected spot bitcoin ETF applications on the grounds they do meet its investor protection requirements. Industry hopes that position would shift surged in June when BlackRock (BLK.N), which has an almost unbroken record of SEC ETF approvals, filed for a spot bitcoin ETF. The only prospective issuer to disclose proposed investor fees so far is Ark Investment, which last week announced its spot bitcoin ETF would charge a fee of 0.8%. To be sure, issuers hoping to launch spot bitcoin ETFs have a more bullish outlook than those sticking to the sidelines. Magoon hopes the buzz surrounding a spot bitcoin ETF will draw more assets to Amplify's BLOK ETF.

Linking Ukraine’s military assistance to U.S. border security interjects one of the most divisive domestic political issues — immigration and border crossings — into the middle of an intensifying debate over wartime foreign policy. Failure risks delaying U.S. military aid to Kyiv and Israel, along with humanitarian assistance for Gaza, in the midst of two wars, potentially undermining America's global standing. Rather than approve Biden’s request, which includes $61 billion for Ukraine, Republicans are demanding something in return. Democrats call these essentially nonstarters, and the border security talks are going slowly. Other Republicans, led by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, a Donald Trump ally, have drawn an even deeper line against Ukraine aid.

Since 2021, the SEC has rejected multiple applications to issue spot bitcoin ETFs, arguing that the cryptocurrency market is vulnerable to manipulation. In August, a federal court ruled that the SEC wrongly rejected Grayscale Investments' application to convert its Bitcoin Trust into a spot bitcoin ETF. SEC chair Gary Gensler said last month that the SEC is evaluating as many as 10 spot bitcoin ETF proposals. The average fee levied on U.S. ETFs currently hovers around 0.54%, but Ark's proposed fee of 0.80% is significantly lower than the 2% that Grayscale currently charges investors on its spot bitcoin trust. If the SEC does approve some or all of the pending spot bitcoin ETF applications in early January, industry participants and analysts expect a fierce battle for market share to follow.

WASHINGTON (AP) — While the scandals in the cryptocurrency industry seem to never end, Washington policymakers appear to have little interest in pushing through legislation to codify the structure of the industry. The latest shoe to drop is Binance’s multibillion dollar settlement with U.S. authorities and the resignation of its CEO this week. When cryptocurrencies collapsed and a number of companies failed last year, Congress considered multiple approaches for how to regulate the industry in the future. Brown has been highly skeptical of cryptocurrencies as a concept and he’s been generally reluctant to put Congress’ blessing on them through legislation. Yesterday’s development marks the same inflection point that we saw earlier at the intersection of the .com and post-.com eras.”

Industry insiders are cheering the end of a "CZ"-led Binance as a necessary move for crypto going forward. Some say it was perhaps even critical for what could be the next big step for the industry: the approval of a bitcoin ETF. Having this settlement behind us could be the final big, big step needed for this ETF." The crypto industry has long sought the creation of a bitcoin ETF (efforts to launch one go back at least a decade). "Binance is globally the major liquidity pool for crypto trading despite losing market share this year," she said.

Falling prices of commodities like copper and lumber “negatively impacted” Home Depot’s third-quarter earnings, CEO Ted Decker told investors on the company’s earnings call earlier this week. In particular, they're noticing consumers pushing off bigger-ticket purchases like appliances, which have become cheaper compared to a year ago. But the problem with deflation is that when people begin to expect lower prices in the future, they have little incentive to make purchases right now. In China, however, prices across all goods and services were 0.2% lower in October compared to the same month last year. He also warned that US-based Walmarts could enter “a deflationary environment.”Besides eggs, other cheaper goods include airfares, gasoline, appliances and smartphones.

Competition is set to heat up for the popular Grayscale Bitcoin Trust once the Securities and Exchange Commission approves a spot bitcoin ETF in the U.S. ARK in partnership with 21 Shares is in a long line at the SEC to get its application to launch a spot bitcoin ETF approved. Grayscale has been fighting with the SEC to convert GBTC into an ETF. The drumbeat for a bitcoin ETF has been growing louder since this summer. This week, ARK sold $6 million of GBTC shares, which Wood cited as a routine profit-taking event.

Nov 13 (Reuters) - Fidelity launched a group of six new exchange-traded funds (ETFs) Monday and announced sharp reductions on management fees on nearly a third of its total ETF lineup, kicking off what analysts expect to be another strong week for ETF debuts. So far this year, asset managers have launched 419 ETFs, according to Morningstar Direct, taking 2023 a step closer toward breaking the 2021 record of 475 new ETFs. The move will boost Ark's lineup from eight ETFs to a total of 15. The Fidelity products offer fees of 18 basis points to 28 basis points, compared with an average fee of around 63 basis points for actively managed ETFs, according to Bryan Armour, mutual fund analyst at Morningstar. "These are very, very substantial reductions, and the new fees are very low," said Armour.

LONDON, Nov 12 (Reuters) - Foreign investors pulled a record amount of money from U.S. equity funds tracking Saudi Arabia in October as the Middle East's worst violence in decades shook the region's business-friendly narrative. The iShares MSCI Saudi Arabia ETF saw record net outflows in October of more than $200 million, LSEG data shows, cutting 20% from what it held at the beginning of the month. "Capital flight can be quite indiscriminate," said Torbjorn Soltvedt, principal analyst for the Middle East and North Africa with Verisk Maplecroft. The iShares MSCI Qatar ETF (QAT.O) lost $7.7 million in funds in October, while the iShares MSCI UAE ETF (UAE.O) suffered outflows of $2.75 million. Nearly all the region's main economies are strong enough to weather some turmoil, investors say.

BlackRock registered the iShares Ethereum Trust as a Delaware statutory trust on Thursday. Earlier this year, BlackRock registered a bitcoin trust in the same manner and a week later filed an application with the SEC to launch a spot bitcoin ETF. BlackRock declined to comment on the trust's creation or on any plans for an ETF filing. To date, roughly a dozen ETF providers have filed to create spot bitcoin ETFs, or convert existing products into spot ETFs, helping fuel the recent rally in the cryptocurrency. Several other ETF providers that have applied for spot bitcoin ETFs also have sought SEC approval for spot ether ETFs, including Ark Investment Management, Invesco and VanEck.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — The first sign of discontent regarding Craig Counsell’s decision to leave the Milwaukee Brewers to manage the Chicago Cubs appeared in his hometown at the Little League field that bears his name. The sign was covered up Tuesday morning, one day after the Cubs landed Counsell with a five-year deal worth over $40 million. “I give Craig credit for helping to build that, and for adding all these coaches, all of whom have stayed. Counsell told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Tuesday the opportunity for a new professional challenge and the proximity of Chicago made this opportunity appealing. Neitzel said he believed Attanasio would have received most of the criticism if Counsell had ended up managing any opponent other than the Cubs.
