U.S. President-elect Donald Trump holds an award during the FOX Nation's Patriot Awards at the Tilles Center on December 05, 2024 in Greenvale, New York. Optimism about household finances hit a multiyear high following Donald Trump's presidential election victory in November, according to a New York Federal Reserve survey released Monday. Even with the increase in sentiment, consumers' inflation outlook is still cautious, according to the New York Fed Survey. Though Trump has made little mention of attacking the government's debt and deficit load, the outlook there improved as well. The median expectation for growth in government debt was at 6.2%, down 2.3 percentage points from October and the lowest level since February 2020.

The New York Mets and superstar outfielder Juan Soto have agreed on a 15-year, $765 million contract, according to multiple reports Sunday. The Mets have won two World Series (1969 and 1986) since their history began in 1962. Soto's addition is the Mets' most aggressive move yet to wrest the Big Apple spotlight away from the Yankees. He belted a career-high 41 home runs this season (fourth most) to go along with 109 RBIs (sixth most).

China's producer price index declined for the 26th month. Producer inflation fell by 2.5% year on year in November, less than the estimated 2.8% decline as per the Reuters poll. The persistent near-zero inflation shows that China is still grappling with sluggish domestic demand and deflation at the wholesale level. Liu said China's producer price index inflation will likely remain negative throughout 2025. China is also due to report its trade data for November on Tuesday, and retail sales figures next Monday.
