The Weather Prediction Center has increased the rainfall threat for Wednesday to a rare “high” risk, or a level 4 of 4. For Tampa that would equal more than five months’ worth of rain – the average for October is 2.34 inches. More than 10 inches of rain could also break monthly records for some cities in central Florida. The heavy rainfall combined with high storm surge could create an especially dangerous situation. Flood watches remain for nearly 20 million people across Florida, and over 5 million people are under storm surge alerts.

The iPhone 16 lacks new features and a new AI smartphone is years away, wrote analysts on Sunday. Much of the optimism surrounding Apple this year came from its June announcement of Apple Intelligence, the company's take on artificial intelligence. In Sunday's note, Lee forecasted "flattish volume growth" in the second half of 2024 for iPhone 16 compared to the iPhone 15, and only 2.5% growth in lifecycle volume for the iPhone 16. Harris’ plan would boost the debt by $3.5 trillion over the next decade, while Trump’s platform would cause it to spike by $7.5 trillion, according to the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget’s report, released Monday. It found that Harris’ measures could have no significant impact on the debt or could increase it by $8.1 trillion. And Trump’s proposals could balloon the debt by between $1.5 trillion and $15.2 trillion. These proposals would cost $2.3 trillion in total. But the committee estimates these tariffs would bring in between $2 trillion and $4.3 trillion over a decade — not enough to cover Trump’s agenda.

A blockbuster jobs report raises the stakes for upcoming inflation data, BofA analysts say. AdvertisementThe September jobs report was good news, but it gives investors more reason to brace for the next inflation reading, Bank of America analysts say. Economists forecast the CPI report will show inflation continued to cool last month, rising 2.3% year-over-year compared to 2.5% in August. AdvertisementHowever, with the blockbuster September jobs report, some economists say inflation is still a concern. The September jobs report blew past forecasts, with 254,000 nonfarm payrolls added compared to expectations of 150,000.

US stocks fell Monday as bond yields and oil prices moved higher. The rise in oil prices and solid September jobs report has revived inflation concerns. Friday's release of the September jobs report sparked the move higher in yields. AdvertisementMeanwhile, oil prices continued to surge on Monday, rising by about 4% as tensions in the Middle East continued to simmer on the first anniversary of the Hamas-led attack against Israel. The rise in oil prices and the stronger jobs report are fanning fears of a potential rebound in inflation, which would mean fewer rate cuts from the Federal Reserve.

CNN —Editor’s Note: This essay is adapted from Chris Wallace’s book, “Countdown 1960.”The 1960 presidential election changed everything. Countdown 1960 is the riveting new history by Chris Wallace, bestselling author of Countdown 1945 and Countdown bin Laden, offering a fresh take on 1960 and the dramatic 11 months leading up to a deeply relevant election for the ages. To put it simply: There is good reason to believe the presidential election of 1960 was stolen. And yet, in 1960, the candidate who “lost” refused to contest the results and interfere with the peaceful transfer of power. At least 24 killed in Israeli air strike on Gaza mosque and school

Destroyed buildings lie in ruin in central Gaza, amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas, near the Israel-Gaza border, as seen from Israel, on Jan. 13, 2024. At least 24 people were killed and 93 others wounded when Israeli airstrikes targeted a mosque and a school sheltering displaced people in the Gaza Strip early on Sunday morning, the Hamas-run Gaza government media office said. The strikes on the mosque and the school, near the Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip, came as the war between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas in the enclave approaches its first anniversary. Israel's subsequent military assault on Gaza has killed nearly 42,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza's health ministry. It has also displaced nearly all of the enclave's 2.3 million people, caused a hunger crisis and led to genocide allegations at the World Court that Israel denies.

Warren Buffett took full control of Berkshire Hathaway Energy, a utility giant that it has owned a majority stake in since 1999, but the business has been a drag on the conglomerate. Berkshire bought the stake for $2.37 billion in cash, $600 million in debt as well as a significant amount of Berkshire Class B shares , according to a regulatory filing. Berkshire Vice Chairman Greg Abel, Buffett's designated successor, sold his 1% stake in BHE for $870 million at a much higher valuation just two years ago. The utility arm has been a weak spot for the conglomerate, which has otherwise enjoyed a few outstanding years. "BHE has been under pressure," said Cathy Seifert, Berkshire analyst at CFRA Research.

Week 5 of the NFL season is here and we have a full slate of intriguing storylines to follow, led by a pair of players facing former teams. While Rodgers has the accolades, Minnesota's Sam Darnold has been the better quarterback so far this season.
