Haitians were waiting to board a flight from Port-au-Prince to Nicaragua in late October as the Haitian government banned all charter flights to the Central American nation. Photo: Odelyn Joseph/Associated PressThe U.S. government said Tuesday it would impose visa restrictions on individuals running charter flights into Nicaragua, flooding the Central American country with tens of thousands of U.S.-bound migrants, mostly from Haiti, Cuba and Africa. The authoritarian government of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega , which has strained ties with the U.S., has in recent months allowed several little-known charter airlines and travel agencies to operate flights from Haiti, Cuba and other Caribbean airports to Nicaragua, according to Haitian and Nicaraguan civil aviation data.

The assault that forced the evacuation of the hospital and left dozens of homes ablaze was blamed on the Brooklyn gang. Previous attacks in Cite Soleil and other areas have left hundreds of civilians dead as gangs pillage communities, raping and killing people inside their homes. During the recent clashes in the sprawling seaside slum that led up to Wednesday’s attack, gangs could be seen traveling by boat to surprise and kill rival gang members, Ulysse said. Then, after everyone inside the hospital grew quiet, she heard gangs outside arguing whether or not to burn the facility. Those interviewed praised the police and Ulysse, who pleaded for help via social media as the facility came under attack.

Japan service activity posts slowest growth this year - PMI
  + stars: | 2023-11-06 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
TOKYO, Nov 6 (Reuters) - Japan's services activity expanded at the slowest pace this year in October, a business survey showed on Monday, reinforcing concerns that the key sector propelling economic growth is continuing to soften. The final au Jibun Bank Service purchasing managers' index (PMI) fell to 51.6 in October from 53.8 in September, beset by weak demand. "While the PMI data continue to make positive reading for the Japanese service sector, the recent trends suggest that growth is on the wane," said Andrew Harker, economics director at S&P Global. Employment returned to growth, but retirements offset the overall pace of job creation, the survey found. The worsening conflict in the Middle East and slower growth in China cloud the outlook for Japan, among the largest economies in the world.

TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Sunday pledged to continue deepening reforms, expand free trade zones and relax market access for foreign investment while seeking to generate excitement around a largely lackluster economy. China's economy expanded at a 4.9% annual pace between July-September, beating analysts’ forecasts of about 4.5%, official data show. The expo being held through Friday is an annual event launched by President Xi Jinping in 2018 with the theme of promoting China’s image as being in favor of free trade. This year’s expo brought Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, currently paying an official visit to China which is largely focused on restoring trade links blocked for years due to economic and political tensions. Despite that, Li said China would continue to “actively pursue the accession to the CPTPP and the Digital Economy Partnership Agreement and negotiate for the conclusion of more high standard free trade agreements.”

"Paintings of Claude Monet of this scale, of this dimension no longer really exist among French families. Though not as famous as Monet's water lilies or the Gare Saint Lazare paintings, which can command prices reaching 100 million euros, "Les Saules, Giverny" bears the artist's trademark style. Día de los Muertos is a tribute to the afterlife, a day meant to honor those who have died and keep their memory alive. Unlike Halloween, which historically was a day to ward off evil spirits, Day of the Dead is more about paying respects to loved ones who have died. Just like in Mexico, Filipinos visit their loved ones’ graves and also create altars to those who have passed. Many people honor Day of the Dead by visiting the graves of dead relatives and loved ones. People come together to share stories of their loved ones — helping keep their memory alive.
